Barge hits bridge

NATCHEZ — A barge hit the Mississippi River bridge at approximately 9 p.m.

Traffic is currently flowing across the bridge, and authorities are on the scene. One eye-witness said it appeared the barge was traveling north on the river when it struck.

aye must not have been to bad if traffics still flowing. i doubt it could have had a lot of momentum going upstream anyways.

North?...were they so underpowered they lost steerage?...I could see them coming south and the speed causing this, but who would try to come north without enough power?

18-Wheeler wrecked north of town, on Highway 61 (southbound), just before dark.

Boy that is going to cost! The new casino with a whole in it! I don't think Natchez could afford another boat anyway. Just glad it did not hit the levee at JMJONES LUMBER CO.

What happened with the 18 wheeler wreck?

My daughter saw that 18 wheeler wreck it looked bad..Can't believe ND didn't report that one.

The 18 wheeler is laying on it's side across 61N just sout of Trinity.

Maybe they should consider putting bumper car railings around those barges seeing as how here lately you hear about alot of barges running into bridges and stuff.

Yea, I saw the 18 wheeler wreck also! It did look bad! I live in Kingston and had to go right by it!

I saw that, too. Had to drive right past it. Hope the driver of the truck was ok. All the "stuff", I guess stuff that was on the truck was still on the side of the road this morning.
