Vidalia Jr. High makes us proud

Published Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Junior high and middle school students often get a bad rap.

The students are pre-teens and teens, and their raging hormones attribute to wild behaviors that make adults want to run the other direction.

But this time, it’s a junior high that’s making good headlines.

Vidalia Junior High School recently received continued accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The outside SACS group comes in to review the school’s test performance, student involvement and teachers.

Accreditation is often taken for granted these days. Any good school has it. But popularity shouldn’t lessen the importance of the achievement.

VJHS opened its doors to inspection, and they passed with flying colors.

It’s great to see the school continuing to strive for the best, and it’s even better to know they’ve achieved it.

The hormones are still raging, sure, but other positive forces are in place to guide these young people along the right path.

The Key Club, 4-H and the drama club are active at VJHS, and many students have found an extracurricular activity that keeps them out of trouble.

This achievement is one in which the school and the community should be proud.

I am also proud to say that I attended VJHS and now my children attend Vidalia Schools. It's a great school and Concordia Pariah is a great place to raise your children. Your children will never be in a place where temptation and violence isn't present, but I am proud to say I am from Vidalia. Soon, I will not have to say "ya know right across the bridge from Natchez, MS'! We are growing and I love that we are being recognized!!!!
