Father charged in death of baby

Published Saturday, May 3, 2008

VIDALIA — A Ferriday man was arrested Friday on charges that he played a role in the death of his infant son.

Freddie Lewis Quinn, 48, 100 Kyle Road, Apt. 101-A, was arrested on charges of second-degree murder.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators reported the 6-week-old infant LaDaiderick Quinn was transported by his mother to Riverland Medical Center Tuesday night with apparent massive head trauma, CPSO Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said.

Ferriday police responded to the crime after receiving a call from the hospital, Police Chief Richard Madison said.

The victim died early Wednesday morning at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, where he had been transported after initial treatment.

An autopsy of the infant’s body has been ordered in Jefferson Parish.

The initial investigation was conducted by the Ferriday Police Department, who asked the CPSO to provide additional assistance Thursday afternoon.

“That was our initial response, our initial case,” Madison said. “We did the initial work, but it’s not about credit. It’s about getting justice served.”

More facts will come to light once toxicology and other reports come in, Madison said.

“There are still some things we are trying to clean up, some things we need to clear,” Madison said.

Ferriday Investigator Johnny Evans conducted the initial investigation, and CPSO Investigators David Hedrick and Jack Fletcher are working the case, which is considered ongoing.

This is such a sad, tragic situation. Children are a precious gift from God. They don't ask to be born; that is a choice that is made by the mother mainly; if not made by the father. So many people in the world would love to be blessed with a child, but they either face fertility issues or some other health issues and are unable to have children. What could a baby or any child do in order to deserve such harm? I know that the mother cannot devote attention to a child 24 hours a day; but we need to be careful about the choices we make in life. We have to live with the bad choices as well as the good.

This is a sad story. My Prayers go out to the mother and family. I can not imagine why people would harm an innoncent child. May God be with your family, for I know your precious LaDaiderick is in Gods hands.

Oh my...wonder if this is another of those stories of shaking a baby. WHY do people do this? Why harm a precious baby? Because he could? Well in prison they will take care of this one because they are known for hating people who kill babies.
My prayers to the baby's family and esp mother.

It wasn't "shaken baby syndrome",,,,,His death was caused by "apparent massive head trauma" according to the article!
I have to wonder where the mother was while her baby was being beaten to death! You know he was crying out when that jackass was hitting him!

This makes me so angry!

OMGoodness! That precious little baby! How could someone get mad enough to strike an infant? Babies are the purest form of love...shame on this idiot. May he receive everything that's coming to him.

SAD, sad,sad ,What is the world coming to.

Posted by greenbean (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 10:13 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You know it is a shame that people like this have babies right and left. It is also a shame that people that want babies and would love and take care of them can not have them.

Posted by 318225601 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 10:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I heard that the baby was dropped. I have no idea how true that is, but it is still a tragedy. Knowing both parents personally, I never believed they possessed the mental stability to raise one child, but apparently they had four. I have kids, and I could never imagine putting them in the way of any form of danger, but accidents do happen. I doubt very seriously that this was an accident, but accidents do occur. Often we don't realize how an accident could have been avoided until it is much too late. My prayers go out to the mother, losing a child is something I never want to experience whether the child is 6 months or 60. Another thing, the father is the same man who announced his candidacy for president about four years ago, and named his son Jesuschristsonofthelivinggod (there was more to the name but that is all I remember.) He ran ads in the local papers about how he was GOD and he was sent to deliver us from evil. That was the first indication that he needed psychological attention. It is just such a shame that an innocent child had to suffer as a result of his mental incapabilities.

He deserives the dealth penalty by getting his BUTT beat to death. This is aweful. My prayers go out to the baby. Another angel we have.

I hate that an innocent child died and my deepest sympathy for the family of this child.

I also hate that many people get so much exercise jumping to conclusions on this site. Where did it state that this child was beaten to death? There is more to this story that what we see in print since they are waiting on toxicology reports as well as others.

Posted by cooper3k1 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 11:16 a.m. (Suggest removal)

3on23, I agree with you. I see this alot in this paper. It states that the father played a role in the infants death; not that he beat the baby to death. It may have been an accident and he was the one with the baby at that time. My prayers go out to the family.

Posted by crystal0429 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 11:25 a.m. (Suggest removal)

This is terrible! I dont see how anyone could harm a child, let along a helpless baby! Oh, this makes me so mad! My heart goes out to the family. Just know that the baby is in God's hands where he will be loved!

Hard for me to believe MASSIVE head trama was an accident. The only good thing out of all of this is this little angel is out of harms way. Any one who can hurt their child so badly deserves the most harsh punishment that our gov. allows.

Posted by forthekids (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 1:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

the only "excuse" for massive head trama would be if the family were involved in a car accident where a car seat failed to protect the child or if something caused a building to collapse on a child anything else is caused by human hand. and who are we waiting toxicology reports on, surely not the father because that only furthers his guilt being drunk or drugged out is not a viable reason for harming a child or anyone

Posted by redusmfan (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 2:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I look forward to seeing the outcome of this investigation. If he did harm the child, I hope they never have to go to trial. Maybe, just maybe, it could be "settled" before court.

Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 3 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Choctaw how do you or any of us KNOW it wasn't from shaking the baby? You know when you shake them violently they die from head trauma.

Posted by overthehill60 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 3:01 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It's disqusting people like Freddie Lewis Quinn that make the world look so evil. Inagine the horror this sweet baby went through before be took his final breath.

((318225601)) you have really damaged the case by your comment sometimes keeping things to your self pays off. Things like saying
(Knowing both parents personally, I never believed they possessed the mental stability to raise one child, but apparently they had four.)

The main thing is little LaDaiderick is safe and at peace now!

now this is a man that needs to go to court today and get hung tonight hope it doesn't end up like the daughter that killed her mother and said she was raped in natchez when she was arrested the family got her a lawyer and said do not talk then the whole family went to the DA HARPER and said we have lost one and want her left along they all wanted not to loose another family member to jail after they lost one to the killinge

what can law enforcement do when the family of the victim will not let the ones that know talk

HOPE THIS CASE WORKS OUT BETTER

Posted by cooper3k1 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 5:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

This was a six week old baby...it wouldn't take as much to cause head trauma as it would an older child. It could have been something that was not intentional; However, if it was intentional then I believe he needs to be punished severely, but don't hang him before you know all the facts.

Posted by 318225601 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 7:20 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Overthehill60, my intentions weren't to damage the case. I am not a psychologist nor am I a psychiatrist. I stated my personal opinion. I didn't diagnose him with any psychological disorder nor did i advise him to plead insanity. I just gave my honest opinion which is that I have always believed he was crazy. It's only an OPINION. I am sure some people believe I'm crazy, some people believe you are crazy but that doesn't give them the credibility to label me , you, or Freddie. I am sorry if you believe I damaged the case, and from now on I will keep my opinions to myself. I usually don't comment on anything, but this one touched me because I have small kids. But do me a favor, read closer into my first comment where I stated this could have been an accident, because accidents do happen. I was not there, you were not there and to my knowledge no one who has commented on this article was present at the time of the incident. There is no way for us to ever know what happened or why it did happen. All we can do is keep the family in our prayers and pray more so the three remaining kids. Also pray no other innocent child never has to endure such pain. This is a tragedy and it touches anyone who has a heart.

I have a new idea for a death penalty for people who kill baby's. Let's save the tax payers some money on housing them, feeding them, and then executing them, by strapping them to the side of a missile that we are planning on launching to Iraq anyway and then just press the button. Kill two birds with one stone and less money.

((318225601)) sorry, I have buried a baby son so the pain is real to me. This was cruel act, it was not an accident it was an act of rage on a tiny baby.
You think of the billions of babies never that have never had head trauma like this little baby. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happen!!!!!
You say you know both the parents personally, well apparently you didn't know Freddie Lewis Quinn too well.

I hope I am wrong in my beliefs, but I don't believe I am.
I just hope the little guy didn't suffer.

What a worthless piece of filth this man is!

Posted by 3on23 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 8:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I still see that a lot of posters are staying super fit!

WHERE does it say that the man BEAT this child to death?

Sorry, I am ot trying to defend him if he did intentionally kill his son but also I am not trying to act as judge, jury, and executioner when we don't know all the facts about what actually happened.

Posted by virginia (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 9:06 a.m. (Suggest removal)

sounds like this man is a mental case.no one in there right mind would kill a child.i have buried 4 babies and you never get over the pain it causes.with birth control free nowadays(so i am told)the people who are incapable of rearing children should go to the social services and get help.

Posted by 318225601 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 9:20 a.m. (Suggest removal)

3on23, it doesn't say that he beat the child to death, but to be charged with 2nd degree murder and not manslaughter or negligent homicide, FPD evidently has some reason to suspect that he was not just responsible for the death, he intentionally caused it. Everybody, let's just wait and see what the outcome will be, because none of us know what really happened. This man has 20 kids or more, no exaggeration, I'm quite sure he knows how to hold and handle a 6wk old baby. Let's just sit and wait on the autopsy, the amended charges (if there will be any), the trial, the verdict, and the sentencing.

Posted by 3on23 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 9:29 a.m. (Suggest removal)

people who are incapable of rearing children should go to the social services and get help.

Good luck. Most of those people, wouldn't recognize that they are incapable of childrearing or admit to needing help.

Posted by 318225601 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 11:40 a.m. (Suggest removal)

People who are incapable of rearing children usually don't know they are incapable. They usually think they are perfectly normal, or just imitate what they were accustomed to growing up.

318225601, I wasn't really questioning where it was stated(I was being vaguley sarcastic) . So many posters were stating what he "did" when the truth is we don't know what actually happened and won't until they release that information. I am just tired of all the supposition based on what little information was released.

What the HEL- HE/SHE/ who ever They deserive the DEATH Penality. If this man had 20 kids as Yaw say....... How many other women were involved? How many others things have happened too? I can see where this story could go deeper. ANYWAY. GUILTY IS THE VERDICT!!!! :) :)

This was no accident!! MASSIVE head injuries do not happen on a daily basis 6 months old or older. Massive head injuries are normaly bleeding or swelling of the brain and in order for that to occure you have to go indure MASSIVE force to the head. If this was an accident it was a freak accident which I very seriously doubt.

((318225601)) your first post you said:

Knowing both parents personally, I never believed they possessed the mental stability to raise one child, but apparently they had four.

Now you seem to be backing down & actually defending him. The more you post the more you seem involved somehow.

If I were were you I would be keeping my mouth shut!!!!

Now you are saying he has as many as 20 kids or more!!

Posted by 318225601 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 9:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Overthehill, please point out where I defend anyone. I feel as though he is guilty just like everyone else but WE can't convict him. My only concern in this whole situation is the poor innocent child. As far as me being involved, I have never committed a crime in my entire life, nor do I associate myself with people who do. I admitted to knowing them, not visiting them, not being friends with them, not inviting them over for dinner, JUST KNOWING THEM. And as for your quote, "If I were you I would be keeping my mouth shut" You are not me, and if I don't exercise any other right in the world, I will exercise my freedom of speech. You attack every comment I post, and I said I wouldn't post any more but guess what? I am not backing down. But please tell me, what is it that you don't like about me? You don't know me, never will. I am a tax paying, law abiding citizen. I take very good care of my kids without any government assistance. I attend church services on a regular basis, I'm a Sunday School teacher. I am bringing my kids up in church. Why am I such a burden on you?

Posted by overthehill60 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 9:43 p.m. (Suggest removal)

WHY didn't you exercise your right when you felt the parents were not mentally stable enough the raise children. That's what Child Protection Services are for. You turned your back on children that you felt were in unstable care (danger). That may not be a crime, but it sure as heck makes you guilty of ignorance. Now to make it even worse you are a Sundy School teacher. Can't you see what damage you are doing to yourself?

I was going to stop posting on this, but every time I think of that poor lifelss baby with his little head bashed in my blood boils.

Massive head tramua says this was not "shaking baby syndrome" This animal took all his revenge out on an precious 6 week old baby!
((318225601))I hope you never have a restful nights sleep knowing you may could have prevented this. As a matter of fact I'm sure there were many that could have prevented it from happening.
Be sure to teach the 6th Commandment to your Sunday school class this is Sunday.
As for my previous post telling you to keep your mouth shut any grown man should have better sense than to be saying the things you have posted.
If you are so big in church how could you in good concincious know these children were at danger and not try to give some warning to the Child Protection, Police or WelFare?

I have 2 very helpful tips for you, overthehill. Grow up and learn to spell check. Hint, hint, when there is a red line under your word, it is misspelled. I am a strong black WOMAN, you can never tear me down. Stop making Natchez Democrat your life. Do you realize you comment on every article posted, whether you have knowledge of the subject or not. If you feel as though I am guilty of a sin, please read Mark 3:28 Verily I say unto you, all sins shall be forgiven except blasphemy. My heavenly father shall judge me one day, and his decision will not be based on the ignorant opinions of people like you. Overthehill, do you want my phone number, because I think your only purpose for being online these days is to talk to me. Sorry Marie, I couldn't resist this one, but I promise I will ignore him/her from now on.

Posted by overthehill60 (anonymous) on May 6, 2008 at 11:08 a.m. (Suggest removal)

((318225601)) I'm sure I do have bad spelling, but look what I'm dealing with a well edacated black female Sunday School teacher. If it makes me look a tad smarter I did graduate from Natchez High School.

Not once have I accused you of anything except neglect for not speaking up when you said & I quote "Knowing both parents personally, I never believed they possessed the mental stability to raise one child, but apparently they had four." That's not a sin that's a personal problem you should have. Knowing those children were at danger, but keeping it to yourself. Then on the other hand maybe you were afraid of this couple

I have no desire to have your phone number, not even an attempt to tare you down as you suggested. I may have alot of faults, but I'm not violent. You made that threat, not me. You say it seems my only purpose is to talk to you. Well beside this story the only comment you have posted on is when Angel Vandevelde's died. That is unless you have more that one usernames.

I DO NOT comment on every article written. Most articles don't even interest me.

You should start critizing yourself for turning a your back on abused children and stop taking your frustrations out on me. We all know the truth hurts so I think that's your main problem. Maybe a therapist could help you sort things out. If it make you feel good to use me for your punching bag go right ahead online but I don't want to exchange phone numbers with an unstable anger black woman. All I want to do is keep this focused to a little baby boy that didn't deserve his head bashed in by a madman.
No comments to me about empathizing black. ((318225601))seems to be the one that wanted that noticed, not me.

Freddie Lewis Quinn was drugged when he killed the baby. It's just an example of what drugs can cause a person to do. This poor little baby never stood a chance, but at least we know he's at peace now. Unlike the the monster that took his life.

I agree with overthehill60 if 318225601 knew they were unfit why didn't she say something that could have prevented this. I may be a nosey old woman, but if I see a child being mistreated or not being raised properly I'm going to speak my voice. Children are our future & we should see they are raised right.

He may believe he is Jesus, but now he's just another murderer sitting in lockdown with nothing to do but listen to the other inmates taunting him. They want him to be sure to know what it will be like once he's out of lockdown. Prison is the worse place a baby murder can be!
Any woman that would have a baby with this monster in not fit to raise a baby. I hope all these children are tracked down & put into decent homes before it's too late for them.
