Joyce has been doing a great job! She will do more since she will be retiring and have more time. She is an intelligent, well informed, people person. We are fortunate to have such dynamic representatiion in Ward 1 and Natchez!

How can you praise Mathis for doing a great job? Please list what she’s done since she’s taken office, I’d like to see it. She’s not accomplished anything in her ward and city except let our streets and sidewalks crumble even further.

Have you ever been to any of the council meetings to see how she obstructs the proceedings with her ego and bad-temper? I have – and she’s an embarrassment. She’s acts like she’s tough and like she knows what she’s doing. But she’s really pretty dense – she HAS to be dense to say, as she has, that our school system is in good shape.

She rarely if ever returns phone calls from her constituents. And she’s let our poor policemen and firemen still get ridiculously low salaries. The only salaries she DID vote to raise were for her and her fellow alterpersons. So who is she looking out for?

Bless her heart, but that picture of Joyce looks like the Poppin' Fresh Doughboy getting poked in the stomach.

she is great when it comes to protecting the thugs in her ward. she complains to the pd about stalking them by setting up road blocks, and actually catching some. what side of the law is she on anyway.

Well, apparently those who voted for her, felt she was doing her job, like those who didn't vote for West felt he wasn't.

She must have been much nicer to her constituents than she has been to alot of people that I know that she's encountered in her daily life over the past few years.

I found her to be rude and abrasive when I tried to be friendly to her. But maybe my idea of nice isn't the same as hers. And no, she doesn't have to be nice to be a politician I suppose, but I would think it would boost cooperation among her peers if she were.

Well, the saying is, you can draw more bees with honey, than with vinegar. Unless of course, you don't care for bees.

I, too, would like to know what Ms. Mathis has accomplished during her tenure. Apart from two speed bumps on Linton Avenue (which have slowed down the speeders--give credit where credit is due), I can see no tangible evidence that she has done anything to help her constituents. Furthermore, it was largely at her insistence that Andrew Smith was hired as City Planner. She bitterly opposed his firing, despite the fact that he was completely ineffective in the job. Not to mention the fact that she voted for the pay raise for the Board of Aldermen. I am stunned that she won reelection so handily. I can hardly bear the thought of four more years of her grandstanding at BOA meetings.
