Customers complain about TV service

Published Tuesday, May 13, 2008

NATCHEZ — Most residents can see snow all year long in Natchez — they just need to turn on the T.V.

Anyone receiving basic cable in the area will have noticed the snowy haze or endless lines on channels coming into Natchez from areas in Louisiana or Mississippi.

While Cable One’s general manager, Bobby McCool, is all too aware of the problem, the poor service has subscribers perplexed and frustrated.

“It’s terrible,” Elizabeth Lehmann, local cable subscriber, said. “It’s been this way for years.”

Lehmann said she cannot remember a time when she turned on the television and the channels came in clearly.

“It’s frustrating,” she said.

And what’s as frustrating for Lehmann as the poor quality of service is the lackluster response she said she gets when she tries to confront Cable One with the problem.

“I’ve heard 90 different reports on why it’s bad,” she said.

Lehmann said she has heard reasons for the poor picture ranging from the quality of her television set to the quality of the signal transmitting the station.

“It’s frustrating,” she said. “And I know I’m not alone.”

And Lehmann is not alone.

Carl Knight, fellow subscriber, said he has regularly experienced the same problems as Lehmann since moving to Natchez in 2001.

“It’s foggy,” he said of the picture. “I really wish they could correct the problem.”

But McCool said there isn’t much that can be done to fix the problem.

McCool said the reason for the lack of quality in the picture is actually twofold.

“Output and distance,” he said.

McCool said the distance from Natchez to transmitting stations and the strength of the signal they put out contribute to the picture on the screen.

Stations broadcasting from areas like Monroe, Alexandria, Baton Rouge and Jackson are all between 50 and 100 miles away, McCool said.

Yet another problem facing the viewing audience in Natchez is what McCool called “deterioration from co-channeling.”

Basically two stations attempting to transmit on the same signal further blurs the clarity on the television.

But Cable One is trying to remedy some of the problems.

McCool said hopefully by the end of the year a fiber optic cable line can be used to get a direct feed from Jackson.

Natchez currently receives stations from antenna, not satellite or fiber optic, which McCool said, would provide a better picture.

“It’s not our fault and it’s not their fault,” he said of the signals Cable One receives.

But no matter who is to blame, customers want some resolution.

“Especially since the rates go up,” Knight said.

Why not a rate decrease until they get it fixed? This will hurry them up to fix the problems. Why pay full price for half their service?

When I have complained, they always tell me a satelite is down. Now this story says we dont even get our signal from a satelite? Hmmm. That figures.
Tonight, we were watching American Idol, and Fox went out...talk about mad. We love that show.

I agree with oldschool, why cant we get a decrease?
I pay 170.00 a month to cable one for internet and Tv...it is crazy.

I have had problems with Cable One since 2001. I was told one time that old cable lines was causing the problem I was having. I had to remind the cable person that all of the Lines in my home are new from the pole to my house and they ran the lines. I was told by one of their techs and I use the word tech loosely, that a cable line on my home was causing the problem with my signal. I had to show the tech, the line in question was not connect to anything and it was cut off on the wall. I pulled the line off the wall. After a month of them trying to give me the run around. They sent a new guy out and he found the problem by going up the pole behind my house, where their juction box is located. The box had water in it. He change out the box and that fix that problem .

Most of the techs don't want to trouble shoot the problems. All they want to do is ride around, talk on their cell phones and give you an give you such a DUMP answer that even a 5 year old can tell it is the wrong answer. They have a commerical out about making you smile. I laugh all the time at the sorry service that cable one has.

I will not start on their internet service or should I say lack of service. If it rain their is a 95% chance of it going out.

The people in Vidalia are getting worst service than customers in Mississippi.

This Number can help 1-602-364-6000 is it their Boss in Phoenix. John Gosh is his name.

go direct tv. no sweat. cheaper, internet service good also.

For a service that collects money regularly for their shoddy services, you'd think they could of fixed their 'antenna problem'. I've had the run around for years with them. It's a sorry state of affairs when a business like Cableone can get a way with lying to customers for years, and we put up with it. After losing channels right in the middle of shows so often lately, we're switching to satellite tv.

Posted by crawgator (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 5:53 a.m. (Suggest removal)

they can B.S. you all they want it's all about the money. The problem can be fixed in 2 ways but, to do so they want you to pay more, yep more. For La. resident and Ms. residents not in the line zone, you are basically recieving a satellite signal and with that signal it needs to be boosted very high. The more and farther you try to push it, the more power you need. They want you to pay for that. They ttried the "Be careful what you ask for." Threat.

I don't live in the cable one viewing area I am in the charter service but I don't have them anymore. They do not even have a local office to call. When you call you get an office in Birmingham. At least when you call cable one you get a person who actually lives here. And yes most of them are on the same cable you are complaining about. They know the problems and have been trying to fix them for years. When you are dealing with airwaves you never know how your reception will be. I now have dish network and believe me it's not what it should be. If it rains even a little it goes out too. And yes dish network raises rate too. I know I have been with them for 4 years and I have has a rate increase every year. At least you have the option of receiving phone internet and cable all on one bill where I live that's not an option. I could go thru bellsouth and get direct TV but they do not offer local channels where I live what's the point if you can't watch ABC, CBS, or Fox at all. Be thankful for what you have and quit complaining about it. Everything has rate increases that's just a the way life is. Did you know that cable one has to pay everyone of the channels you get a fee to put them on the air? So when they raise their fee to cable one that's because your favorite channel has raise the cost that Cable One pays to air that channel. They could just pull the channel but then that would just give you something else to complain about.

Just me....I pay $170.00 a month, and when I call about no service or any problem I usually get someone in Phoenex AZ
I do believe we have the right to complain sometimes about shoddy service.

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 8:54 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If you get someone in AZ you are calling afterhours. You should call between normal buisness hours and you would get someone in Natchez. Like I said I have dish and I get someone in different places all the time. It's just part of life. Why don't everyone just go to dish and then the cable office will shut down and that will be more jobs lost for Natchez. That's just what Natchez needs...less jobs.

JUST DROP THE SERVICE AND GO TO DISH OR DIRECT TV

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 9:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I am with you coach....if you don't like something change it...why sit and complain about it. I am sure the people at cable one get tired of hearing the same complaints day in and day out from the same people who have nothing better to do.

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 9:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If it takes boycotting a service to get them to get it right, then so be it. I am all for free enterprise and if they can do it right---more power to them. The American people have been having to settle for less and less service while they pay more and more for it.
It is time for a change and for the common everyday people to stand up and MAKE service companies do what is RIGHT for the consumer!!!!!
I know they have to pay for each channel, but they don't have to try and get their annual rate every month from the local subscribers. A good business manager would make sure that the customers were happy with their service because ---what MOST companies have forgotted---is they would not be here without the lowly customer.
I got deleted earlier because I said that the customer does not have to put up with poor service---I just used another word besides poor. The deleter guy must own stock in the local cable company...
The consumer can force business to treat them right and to have much better service. All it takes is for a business to lose a certain percentage of their business, and all of a sudden the owners are firing the managers and looking for someone "customer oriented" to bring the compnay back to the people.
EVERYBODY in business does that---even hospitals, ambulance service companies, grocery stores, NEWSPAPER offices, and even elected officals. If you don't like the service you get shopping somewhere----GO TO ANOTHER STORE, or in this case, cancel the cable and go to Direct TV or to Dish Network---and NO I don't work for either one of these----I just use Dish Network and I am very happy with the service I get from them.

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 9:24 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Like I said if everyone goes to dish then the cable company would shut down and then there would be another article about how Natchez needs more jobs when it is the people in Natchez that are running the jobs away. At least they do employ local people.

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 9:29 a.m. (Suggest removal)

It looks like they would really get tired of listening to people complain "day in and day out" like justme23 said. If I had to listen to the same stuff everyday, I would do my best to fix it so I wouldn't have to listen to the same complaints everyday---don'tcha think??????
It would not take a rocket scientist to figure that out....why listen to it if it can be fixed?
If it CAN'T be fixed, then tell the customer that and lower your rates until you can fix it!!!!!!
Don't keep lying to the customer!!

The internet is alright in my house now, after 4 visits, but I'm with yall...the cable is terrible. I record a show every morning at 11am...I'm never sure if I got the whole thing or not because of the fuzziness or lack of signal. BUT YOU CAN BET YOUR SWEET PATOOTIE THEY'LL JACK THOSE RATES UP AS SOON AS IT'S LEGAL!

Why put up with shabby service justme123? If you go to the grocery store and your wife asks a clerk for help with something and they tell her that she can go find it herself because they are too busy talking to their boyfriend or girlfriend on the cell phone---are you just gonna leave it alone and say "oh well--maybe we can find it next week when we come here to be dumped on again?"

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 9:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I went to a restaurant once here that my wife and I go to on a pretty regular basis. As we were ordering, I heard a cell phone ring and our waiter interrupted me in the middle of our order and said, "I will be right back" and stepped away from the table. He reached into his apron and answered his personal cell phone and talked to his girlfriend for about two minutes. He then came back and finished taking our order. We ate and I talked to the owner about it before we left and it was taken care of immediately.
I walked up to him as we were leaving and I said, "Oh, here is your tip..." and he held out his hand as I am usually a good tipper. I told him that his tip from me was the next time his cell phone rang and he was taking an order from somebody, not to step away and take the call. He was fired within a week of that for doing the same thing to someone else.
justme123---the way you are talking, do you believe that the owner should keep him working there just so he won't be unemployed????
What if it was YOUR business, would you fire him or let him stay?

FYI..There have been several times during the work day at CableOne, I have been switched to a number in Phoenix! Not just after hours.
And on a weekly basis I have to reboot my computer and right now they are experincing e-mail problems. We need better technicians...and for the local staff to wait on customers and not visit with friends.I have had that experince also.

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 9:55 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Well if you don't like the service you would go somewhere else. Why not do that like I said before go somewhere else. If that happened to me in a grocery store I wouldn't shop there anymore, If I have poor service in a resturant I don't eat there anymore. So why not go with someone else and see if the grass is greener on the other side and quit complaing about it. If you don't like the internet go with someone else, that goes for the phone too. There is bad service everywhere quit complaining and change services if you don't want to do that then live with it.

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:05 a.m. (Suggest removal)

just me 123---you need to get on one side or the other of this fence you are on!! You are telling everyone to keep their POOR service with the cable company and not let the poor employees go to the unemployment line---but now you are saying that you would not shop at a store or eat at a restaurant that YOU get poor service at. Do you think that you not shopping or eating there might hurt their business?
Don't you think that eventually this might make the business go under? And if it does go under, then everybody that works there is no longer employed----BECAUSE OF POOR SERVICE--and YOU, justme123 put them all in the unemployment line!! You should be ashamed and take all of them home to feed them at night!

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:09 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Your arguement is that the cable company employes local people----so does the restaurant that you are not going to eat at anymore because of the poor servive...so does the grocery store that you are not shopping at anymore because of the poor way they treated your spouse....so does the gas station that you used to buy gas at before you were treated badly....so does the car dealership that you will never buy a car from because they treat you like a treed coon and won't let you just look....so does the local video store that you refuse to rent movies at anymore because they have Xrated movies there and you just don't think that is right...and the list goes on and on and on and on....!!!

I haven't put anybody anywhere. I have said from the start that if you don't like the service go somewhere else but when you do don't complain because the cable company went ouf of business and people loss their jobs. I am just tired of hearing people complain about the service if you don't like it go somewhere else. If not stop COMPLAINING!!!

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:14 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Timnoklahoma- what is your point I am not understanding. I never said that any of this happened to me...only if it did I wouldn't go there anymore. I wouldn't keep going there and complaining everytime that I went.

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Elmer how do you like your local channels with direct TV?

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I really don't think anyone would complain if the cable company shut down due to poor service. Then everyne would go to Dish or Direct and be very happy with their new service and the only ones who would be sad about the cable office closing would be the employees. And then, they would have only themselves to blame for their being unemployed!!!!!
I know that if one of the Loy's in town were to here of an employee being rude or disrespectful to a customer, he or she would be in the office immediately! And I would be willing to bet that if it ever happened again, that employee would be fired---no questions asked---that is considered good customer relations.
If they hired people who were rude, do you think they would be where they are now?

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:24 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Then why hasn't everyone moved to direct Tv or dish if it's so great?

Posted by timnoklahoma (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:24 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That IS my point---you were telling everybody to put up with their sorry service JUST BECAUSE they employed local people---and that is wrong. Even you said that you would not go back to a business if they treated you badly, so why are you telling the fine citizens of Natchez to keep their lousy cable service just because the hire local people????

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:26 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I didn't tell them to keep it. I said change services or quit complaining about the service you have. Natchez is on a downward sprial anyway. What's one more company out of business?

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Cable in any town sucks! That is because there is no competition with cable companies in most towns (there is usually only one primary cable company). For Natchez, it is Cable 1. Where I live, it is COX.

I would certainly recommend DirecTV or Dish Network, but there are problems associated with these as well (and high costs).

Natchez needs to begin installing fiber optics, that is the wave of the future!

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:34 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Justme123, perhaps Natchez would be on an upward spiral if pessimistics like you do not continue to voice such negative opinions. Natchez has hit bottom. A new mayor has been elected and change is in the future.

Posted by boredwithstupidity (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:38 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I've also been switched over to AZ when calling during business hours. There might be local people working this office, but where are they? Try calling a specific person and you get routed to their voice mail, and they RARELY call back.

Maybe if they used the money they spend on lying commercials (about their perfect service) to FIX the problems, we wouldn't be calling repeatedly to complain.

Their newest excuse for bad internet service is 'noise in the lines'. Uhuh......

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:48 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I am far from a pessimistic person but I am only one person and can't change everything. Hopefully the new mayor will help Natchez. I am not the only voicing negative opinions about Natchez read other comments on the other new stories. I don't even live in Natchez so what happens really doesn't effect me but I am just tired of hearing people complain.

Posted by justme123 (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 10:53 a.m. (Suggest removal)

They are busy answering other calls that have come in. So you don't have to sit on hold they do transfer some calls to AZ. That's just so you don't have to sit on hold for long periods at a time (and have something else to complain about). I can assure you they are at their desks on the phone the entire day. That's probably why no one calls you back because they have so many incoming calls.

Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 11:04 a.m. (Suggest removal)

justme123...so how long have you worked for Cable One?

Posted by boredwithstupidity (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 11:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

After leaving 3 voice message to be called back I've yet to hear from the woman. SHE was supposed to be contacting me. Not me trying to hunt her down so she could give me another story on how important we are to them. They had bad connectors on our lines that they finally found after I complained enough times. So we paid for premium service all that time that they weren't supplying. They don't even bother looking at the lines, right away it's the customers fault things aren't working.

As for faster service by routing my call to AZ.... they just tell you they can't figure out the problem. Their favorite "We're having issues". I'm having issues too! My service sucks!

justme123 sound like the lady that worked at cableone a couple of years ago. She told me to get dial up as a back up, since I was having problem with my internet service.

I AM going to be getting satellite.

What gets me in this town is people figuring we HAVE to put up with rude service. We wouldn't want anyone to lose their job now, would we? Maybe if a few more people lost their jobs because of their poor attitude towards customers businesses would straighten up? Oh well, guess that's a dream.

It is the same all over La. Even in Lafayette the snow is bad and channels pop in and out. They are trying to push people into buying new TVs, services, upgrades, etc., etc. TV and telephone companies are out of control and behaving badly to provide such shoddy "service" at exorbitant prices.

Yay deregulation.

I had cable one in another town, it was just as bad as here! IF you find phoning them is a problem, try going in the office to get a real answer to a problem or even to a question. I have family elsewhere that use other cable companies, and they all seem more interested in signing you up than providing good service. At cable one, I don't think management cares as long as they get their pay check.

Posted by Teach4Peace (anonymous) on May 14, 2008 at 3:03 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Isn't it ironic that the cable transmission comes from a satellite and their main selling point against DTV or DISH NETWORK is, well, when it rains, you get poor reception. This is a bunch of hog-wash. Over the years, satellite reception has gotten much better and I can count the times on my hand, I have been without service on my DirecTV. Please people, pay less and get more channels with DirecTV!

justme123 I get the 3 Jackson channels with Direct TV. Barbi stays preggers and Maggie and Howard Balloon are growing every day.
Mrs. Hardcorps and I have an ongoing bet every day on how many robberies and shootings go on in Jackson. I truly feel for the folks who can't afford to move to Madison or Rankin counties. If the older citizens could go to neighboring counties then they could nuke Jackson. The world wouldn't lose much.
Mrs. Hardcorps is a member on here also but she's not a sweetie like I am. yuk yuk

I live in the Jackson city limits and I and my husband enjoy our lives. Don't feel sorry for us. We have never been a victim of crime, and God just generally keeps us. We are responsible gun owners, in the event this is necesaary, but we have a good life and I might add, so do others. I am dismayed by you making bets as to how many robberies there will be in Jackson, seeing as there is a victim behind them all. I go to Madison to work and I visit Rankin county sparingly. Madison county is way too crowded and we aren't even going to get on Ridgeland. Now rural is where it's at if you don't mind the trees and what not. When we decide to leave Jackson, I am looking into rural Hinds county, for my money.

Wow peachpit, good point! Also, I gather this is just another way to FORCE people into some type of cable bill with a company. If you are able to get TV channels without cable TV, why take it from over the airwaves. Yes, I smell hidden agenda here. Good point!

Cableone can tell you that the distance between here and Baton Rouge and Jackson is why the signal is so bad, but it doesn't quite pan out. They could easily set up a repeater in Woodville and one in Port Gibson to take care of those locals. They just won't spend the money on it. It is cheaper to lie to you.

I have CableOne internet service and it has been good for the most part. There was a couple of times that we went round and round, but they finally got it fixed. We had to rewire my residence before they would agree that it was outside, but now I have great internet service. I just had to ride them like a Shetland pony at a birthday party till they got it right. At one point, they would answer the phone, "Good morning Mr. Phillips." It was worth the hassle. Stay on them till they get it fixed.

I don't use them for TV though. I have Dish Network with the High Def package and the DVR. I could not be happier. I have locals, but I never look at them. I watch TV to see movies and concerts. I can get my news and weather online. As far as network TV, I have not watched it in years. I have never seen Survivor, or American Idol. I doubt I have missed much.

Way back when I grew up, we had black&white TV. Then we got color. In the beginning, I can remember having to adjust color, hue, etc. every time the channel was changed. Running outside to turn the antenna, while someone yelled "better" or "worse" as you stood in the rain. Things are a lot better now.

With Dish, it has to rain pretty hard before I get signal fade, at that point, it is most likely so windy that it is moving my dish. I just don't want to stand out there to observe. The rest of the time, my picture is pristine.

Dish Network has a better picture quality than cable on Standard Definition and Dish has way more channels. On High Definition channels, it is close to the same quality, but Dish has way more channels.

I have had DirecTV too, and Dish beats them on picture and sound quality. DirecTV uses a crappy compression that looses too much of the picture. It is noticeable when there is a lot of motion on the screen at one time, like a flock of birds taking flight.

With a 19" TV or even as big as a 27", you really won't notice the difference moving to High Def, but you will notice the difference between analog and digital. Digital has no snow or static. You either have a signal or you don't. If you see it, it will be clean. when it pixilates, you know the signal dropped out.

Once you move up to a big screen TV, you start to notice the limitations of the Standard Definition signal. You can see it in analog or digital. The picture just doesn't look clean and clear. It looks like a photo that has been blown up too much and looks blurry. High Definition makes the big screen look great. Even with a huge screen, the picture looks like a photograph. This was what High Def was supposed to do. It makes it look like film.

Speaking of film. They are going back to the old movies that were filmed and turning those into High Definition and they look as good as when you saw them in the theater. Breathtaking. John Wayne never looked better.

Why anyone would put up with Cableones TV service is beyond me. I have their cable internet, and VoiP phone service, both for less than $100/month. For that price, my internet is way faster than any DSL connection, and calls dont seem to be an issue.

With that being said.....

Ive had Dish for several years, in 3 different cities. I have 250 channels including 7 HBO's/6 MAX/2 The Movie Channels/a bunch of Encores/Sirius music/Local Channels, and everything else I could possibly want for about $85/month. I almost NEVER lose any kind of signal (and my dish is pointed directly at my neighbors massive oak tree.)

My mom and I love to watch MS college games, and cant even watch WLBT on her TV...but mine is crystal clear.

The ONLY thing that I miss from cableone (other than their award winning service) is the local weather channel, but to make up dish offers a kind of "on demand" weather service for local area. Oh, and major networks are out of Jackson, you dont get the Baton Rouge channels...or the local Natchez channel 4.

If you switch, you will NEVER go back.

CableOne needs to leave Natchez for sure. Their service is sorry as their customer service is! Right now I am with Dish and well satisified at the moment!

Cox Communications is a excellent company with telephone service, internet service, cable, and many more services, including cellular service in some areas of the United States. It is a nation-wide, private company. They are the service provider in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and South Louisiana. I understand that they are the 3rd largest company of its type. I wish that the Board of Alderman and the New Mayor would look at this company and invite them to look at Natchez and Adams County. Also, their prices are very good and comparable!

Satellite company being called this morning..... lets all thank Cableone for the almost non-existent internet service this morning. It's getting to be a regular thing with them. This might even get posted if I can stay connected long enough......

There's no drama with Direct TV, they even have local (Mississippi) channels.

Why pay for substandard cable service?

I will have to agree, I am a strong advocate for DirecTV, here in Jackson, I dropped Time Warner cable, now Comcast, who is way too expensive, years ago and have been happy since. Of the times I have contacted DirecTV, I have gotten nothing but good service. If I needed to have my bill looked at for a cheaper rate, they have even accomodated me on that! If you need replacement equipment, no need to worry about being charged for it, and you are not charged monthly for the remotes or anything like that. They will exhange your equipment, no matter how old your account is. Yes, you have to subscribe to a year of service with them, but after the time I had with the local cable companies here, a one year committment was not a problem. It's raining cats and dogs here today and before I left home, my satellite signal was still just as crisp as if on a sunny day.

I have Dish network here in my area and get local stations. I dropped Comcast like a hot potato. I have no complaints. The best way to get them to upgrade quickly is to drop them. When enough people walk away they will do what is necessary to get them back, including better service and reception.

I have dish and I am very satisfied with them. I live in the country where cable is not available, but if it was I would still have dish. My mom got cable for about a week and went back to dish. As for internet service, AT&T is good. I have the slowest speed for 19.95 and it's fast. I have had the fastest they offer at 39.95 and it was no faster than the 19.95 plan.

I happen to live in a sattelite dead zone(We've checked!). That being said we have an antennae and usually get about 2.5 channels. I noticed how bad the cable reception was when I first moved to Natchez and have never considered paying those inflated prices for a truly substandard product. We do watch a heck of a lot of DVDs, but the picture on those is always clear. TV is a luxury, not something that cannot be done without.

I'm a Radio Frequency Engineer by trade and it all comes down to this. Cable Companies in general do not invest a lot of money in off-air retrans channels. With the digital signal coming in '09 this will not be an option. Rates will be increasing to adjust for the added expense of upgrading. If you notice that even the locals via satellite are not always clear. That's because the source signal is an off-air retrans piped to a satellite and then sent out so you get some noise and interference. Garbage in...Garbage out. I use Dish and have been for several years and was once a Directv dealer. I left Directv over the Not-Getting-locals-via satellite thing. Eventually it will be more cost effective to go satellite. The wire (cable) is on the way out and is becoming to costly to maintain. Cable Companies know this and are now offering phone and I-Net packages to stay a float. There is new technology coming that will be a knife in the heart of cable. They are grabbing at what they can before the inevitable.

(Blasterhappy) Enjoyed your comments very much! Enlighten us with info on the "new" technology that will "kill" the cable industry?

I am glad you people have had such wonderful experience with Dishnetwork and Direct TV. I on the other hand have had a terrible experience with them both. I am a stay at home mom and a news junkie. I cannot count the number of times my programs would be interrupted because of a "loss of satellite signal". After six months of this I decided to switch back to cable. My cable has been out only once in the past two months and was fixed within an hour. I like cableone and the people who worked there. Anytime I have had a problem the employees have been nice.
