Teacher reportedly poisoned
Published Thursday, May 15, 2008
VIDALIA — A 16-year-old Clayton boy faces charges in the legal system after allegedly spiking a teacher’s soda with eye-drop solution.
The student allegedly poured approximately 75 percent of a bottle of Visine into a Concordia Education Center teacher’s soda, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said.
The teacher was treated for severe intestinal symptoms at Riverland Medical center.
CPSO School Resource Officer Lee Ford said the student was apparently looking to get even with the teacher for the suspension of another student.
Tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient in the eye drop solution, can be toxic and can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and lowered blood pressure.
The student will appear before juvenile court in the Seventh District Court, and is currently in the custody of his parents.
The student’s name was not released because he is a minor.

The student should not be in the custody of his parents at this time. He should be held and not released without a very high bond. He knew he was doing something very wrong and illegal and could care less for the life of the teacher. I see this as first degree attempted murder.

Wow. You blaming the schools?

Yeah sounds like something we would have done back in the sixties to the teacher yeah right ,, obviously since I have had contact with the public school system things have surely changed.

I am sorry for the teacher in Ferriday, but our paper somehow misses the many verbal and other assaults on teachers here in Natchez. Wonder why?
Has any one looked into why 10 teachers were fired here, nearly all were white! And many others are changing school systems.

THEY DIDN'T LEARN THAT IN SCHOOL!! YOU CAN THINK A FEW MOVIES FOR THAT ONE... I NEVER THOUGHT IT ACTUALY WORKED THOUGH....

I've heard that bartenders and waitresses have used this trick on people who had been rude to them. But I also thought the ingredient that produces the "less than desirable" results to the victims' intestines had been reduced or eliminated from eye drops.
Using Visine as poison or a prank has been on CSI LV and The Wedding Crashers. And it's been done by a student before too: http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?s...

I notice all the negative comments here about Ferriday's school, but not one of you all here commented on the Ferriday student winning the award and trip to Washington,D.C. hmmmm

I blame the child for his awful choice. He should be in jail, not with his parents.......And he should be tried as an adult.

Concordia Education Center- this is not the high school, this is were the thugs go when they make trouble in regular schoo.

(tolduso) I totally agree. What about the Ferriday Kindergarten student who won 2nd place in the NATION in the poster contest. This was under the School News and didn't receive not one comment. Both of these students should be commended for making National News. I would like to congratulate both of them. Keep up the good work!

NtzMom55 and redusmfan, I TOTALLY agree with you! He needs to be in jail--NOT with his parent(s). If the truth were known, his parent(s) more than likely support their son!!

Man 75% of the bottle? I thought you only had to use a few drops.. And John I know what you are talking about, I was told it was because the superintendant feels that white teachers cannot teach black students. My sister goes to school there and that is what the teachers were tellin the students.

If he was my child he wouldn't want to be released to me...
Sad that kids are so out of hand and have no respect for a adult..sad sad sad.....

A little info. Probably the reason he was released to his parents is that there is no place to put him. Vidalia will keep one juvenile in its jail, and if that spot is filled the juvenile has to be taken to a state facility......when there is a "bed".
This is a severe problem. With all the prison space there are no juvenile facilities.

If there is no bed, let him sleep on the floor~and without a mat or pillow, if you ask me!!

Wow this is terrible! I heard of a similar situation that ocurred on a college campus, where some guys put Visine in a football player's drink at a party.......and you know the rest. I can't remember which school though. It was so long ago. I heard that mixing Visine with a lot of different drinks can do some harm on people.

This is borderline on Attempted Murder...That is why I say put his butt in Jail and Try Him As An Adult. 75% of the bottle was a good case for Attempted Murder.
He is acting like a thug, so let him hang out with the other thugs...IN JAIL!!!!!

You are so right about Attempted Murder or even Pre- Meditated. I was wondering if anyone else felt this way. Can't wait to see what the punishment is.

What is our world coming to????? Adults have no control any more..... and if they do, they can get murdered in retaliation???? very scary.... I can only see this getting worse..... sigh.... The new generation is scary for the most part... and the ones who DO have good heads on their have to suffer because of the bad eggs..... the bad kids seem to be higher in number than the good kids....

Just shows what little respect for life there is today. Kick his a## out of school and give him a shovel and a ditch to dig. That is his future.
Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 15, 2008 at 10:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Amen, red! I like the shovel and ditch plan. I wouldn't kick him out of school, though. If he's in the Concordia Education Center, he's probably wanting to get kicked out anyway. Make him stay in school and act right...if he doesn't, try him as an adult if he thinks his britches are big enough!
Yall know that big bar downtown that is well-known for letting in underage girls because they bring in the guys who bring in the money? I was "Visined" there about 15 years or so ago by the bartender. I was the only customer there that early and I only had ONE drink! I was so waxed I barely made it home.

How can anyone in their right mind blame the schools for this act?Wonder why he isnt headed to prison after being tried as an adult?I just do not see release to
his parents as an option in a case this serious. This is NOT
borderline attempted murder. It IS attempted murder.
And All kids are not out of control.I know many who are
doing what is right. Most of the ones out of control are backed by parents who give them everything they demand.

Kpage, having visine put in your drink does not induce a more drunken state. It makes you VERY sick. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. It doesn't sound nice at all. What you may have experienced is some sort of pill (like the date rape drug or some prescription drug or something) being slipped into your drink. That still goes on to this day, which is why if my drink gets out of my sight i won't drink it. I simply throw it away and get another one.
Posted by redusmfan (anonymous) on May 15, 2008 at 11:22 a.m. (Suggest removal)
I just do not go out drinking at all. I have a glass of wine in my home and do not drive when I do it. I do not believe that he needs to be in school at all. I believe he just nullified his right to a free education at our taxpayer's expense. Send his a## to the penitentiary and when he gets out, he gets his shovel and a ditch to dig from Ferriday to New Iberia. When he finishes it, then he can dig one from Baton Rouge to Bastrop.
By the way, I do not blame Ferriday Schools at all for this. It is the fault of the student. Period.
Ferriday Schools, Congratulations on all the fine achievements that have been accomplished this year.

Thank you vidalia 1. From what I have witnessed in public the parents are in the wrong. They defend their little monsters at all cost which leads them on to cause even more harm. The parents should have to be investigated as far as child rearing and legally forced into some kind of child management care.
And I agree with you about some kids being good. When I see them with good manners I applaud them. Only they are few and far in between. It's a shame parents won't take the time to correct their children. They think their little ones do no wrong and these are the very ones that will grow up to be terrorist and murderers while the parents stand back shaking their heads and wonder where they went wrong. I think it's time for us to start embarrassing these kind of parents in public. Maybe it will help.

Ooooooh, firered! I see now. I don't remember being doubled up in gut pain so it wasn't Visine. That evening could have ended in my death! I was running into the side of the bridge coming home to Vidalia. That single night still makes me have nightmares!
I don't go out drinking anymore either, unless John Anderson or Little River Band comes to town (LRB at Doc Biglove's at the end of September, by the way). I prefer to stay at home with my cheap bottle of Lambrusco and a good movie. My daddy was right all these years..."Ain't nothing good happening after midnight!"

Thank God that you made it home that night kpage!!!! I just don't understand why someone would want to slip something into another person's drink. Although as a bartender for several years I sure thought about it. But I know Karma is not nice at all and when she come back to bite ya in the butt she gets ya good!!!! So therefore I always try to think before I act! Don't worry, kpage whoever did that to you more than likely had a worse experience... it just sucks that you don't get to know who it was and what was done to them in retribution!!!!
Vengence is mine sayeth the Lord!

I am a high school English teacher, and I can assure you the kids are not learning this behavior at school. I am also a single parent of two young children. I began teaching so that I would be able to spend more time with my children. Every summer, I am the ONLY parent in the neighborhood, and the kids are raising themselves. No supervision, no adult intervention. THAT is our problem--parents are not raising their kids to have morals and values and respect for other people. Left to their own devices, children will be little heathens--and none of us should be surprised by anything they do.

misslinda34..I beg to differ a bit, our parents could leave us and we had better not misbehave. We were raised to behave no matter who was there watching and we did not need to be watched.I can remember the ones whose parents gave them everything and I see how they turned out and I see how we turned out.And most of us had single parents and excellent
behavior.I see children now who curse, fight and even use drugs right in front of their parents. It depends on the upbringing.

tolduso, you need to be more observant before making a statement like you did on this post. I DID post something positive for FHS student Amanda on that article and you state here that none of the posters here did. Open your eyes before you open your mouth.

just if any one want to see the side affects of this drug go to medlineplus.com health information from the national library of medicine. click on enclopedia and look up the drug name

Thank you, Vidalia1 for pointing that out and making me clarify my comment. I agree with everything you said--my point was that the parents today are NOT raising the kids--they are raising themselves. And most of the parents of the kids I teach don't think their "little darlings" would ever do anything wrong!

misslinda43,you have to agree that not all of the children
diisrespect.Do you teach in Louisiana or Mississippi? When I grew up it was never ever alright to disrespect anyone. I went to school in a small town there and studied very hard.
Even then we saw others misbehave but we knew better.

First of all, I am in no way condoning what this kid did, and I feel he needs to face the consequences of his actions. But in fairness you people need to know that this kid has been through 7 kinds of hell in the last couple of years and probably needs to be in a hospital, not a jail.

He can get some treatment RIGHT AFTER THE PAROLE BOARD SAYS SO. Otherwise, I still say he needs to face the consequences of his actions.

msfixit That's no excuse. He could have killed this woman. If he's not punished he will do it again. All serial killers have sad background excuses for they actions.
If he were my son I would be afraid to even have in in my home.

How's this for a punishment...do the same thing to him...see if he likes it anymore than the teacher.

Movies and teachers are not to blame. some children sit around thinkin about things that can hurt others.

And the some parents think its funny, that's the sad part.
