NATCHEZ — A single car accident on Cranfield Road Wednesday night resulted in one fatality.
Elizabeth R. Lees, 49, died after her truck sped off of Cranfield Road Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown said.
Brown said Lees’ vehicle left the road when she attempted to take a turn in the road at a high rate of speed and drove into a ravine.
Lees was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
Brown said the latest accident is part of an unsettling trend he’s seen lately.
“She was not wearing a seat belt,” he said.
Brown said the latest accident is the fifth accident this year that resulted in a fatality. None of the other drivers in the previous accidents were buckled in either Brown said.
In response to this Brown said deputies will be out in unusually high numbers this Memorial Day Weekend.
“If you’re on a county road you’re probably going to get stopped,” he said.
Brown said roadblocks to look for seatbelt, alcohol and insurance violations will be visible on most county roads.
“Just buckle up,” Brown said. “It’s simple.”
