Paramedics uninjured in ambulance fire

Published Tuesday, May 27, 2008

NATCHEZ — Two paramedics were uninjured when their ambulance caught fire on U.S.61 South on Monday.

Natchez Fire Department officials said the paramedics were driving along the highway when an oil leakage caused the ambulance motor to catch fire. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The paramedics were not responding to a medical call when the incident occurred. No patients were on board.

Glad they were Ok and also glad they were NOT out on an emergency call!

METRO OR AMR? My guess is Metro.

Could the paper double check the location. The fire department was sent to Hobo Forks in relation to this fire.

It was Metro...... figures....

What does it matter if it was Metro or if it was AMR? I promise you that if you had a true emergency happen to you or your family you would not care which ambulance service responds, you would just want help to get there! These ambulances are generally ran 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Do you think about the miles put on these trucks? Mechanical problems are going to arise from time to time!

Fire or no fire I'll take my chance if I or a member of my family every need an ambulance. They have the right a way & cars, even with emergencey flashers are ignored. Also in a car you don't have the proper equipment for heart attacks, etc. How many times have you heard this happening? It was just a freak accident that could happen to any vechile.
Just thankfully no one was injured.
Years ago my granddaughter had penumonia & stopped breathing three times on the way to the hospital if she had not been in an ambulance she probably wouldn't be here 14 years later.

humorme " that seals it. I'll drive my self to the hospital."

Gee, you want to endanger everyone else because an ambulance or any other emergency vehicle had a fire with no injuries! Let me tell you something, more people are injured by fast driving vehicles than by a burning ambulance. If this was tongue 'n cheek then so specify because it is people like you that may not be in an accident but may cause one.

And, I agree with the above stated facts that a non-emergency vehicle is not equipped for heart attacks, etc.

Never say never and never say always -- both will get you into trouble!

TO THE ONE WHO SAID THEY WOULD DRIVE THEMSELF TO THE HOSPITAL... AND IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO THAT ROUTE WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WHEN ON THE WAY THERE YOU CAR DOES THE SAME THING YOU WILL BE SAYING I SHOULD HAVE TOOK THE AMBULANCE..... THIS IS SOMETHING THAT RARELY HAPPENS HONESTLY THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE, THESE TRUCKS ARE ALWAYS ON THE GO THEY ARE STRONG TRUCKS... I AM PERSONALLY ABOUT TO START SCHOOL FOR THIS FIELD SO PLEASE CHOOSE YOUR DECISION WISELY YALL...

Go put out an ambulance fire you two dorks.

Anyone that does not want to call an ambulance is not thinking right. If you are taking someone to the hospital in a car chances are they can't buckle them in, but ambluances have straps & everything needed to protect the patient.
Imagine having to drive a loved one to the hospital in the middle of a heart attack. What if they stop breathing, are you going to pull over & waste precious time to give the CPR? Where in an ambulance they have experienced people to tend to the patient & the driver is in control of the driving. Also what if you have a child that is bleeding uncontrolable & you are having to drive & apply pressure at the same time not to mention being hysterical.

" humorme "....I just looked back at all your previous comments and seems to me like you were high on HEMP "since you want it legalized", when you wrote them......You are a complete idiot. Maybe with you in this world we don't need to legalize hemp because look what it does to you! Your last comment had nothing to do with this article at all. So best thing for you to do is sit back smoke your hemp and read the comments and don't post yours!!!!
Maybe one day when you need an ambulance because of an overdose your attitude will change. " THOUGH I DOUBT IT!!!!" Or you can always get you AUNT MOM to drive you or is she you UNCLE. Maybe you were tripping out when you wrote the comment..
I agree with everyone else THANK YOU for all the paramedics and the great jobs they do. They have saved many lives...

OK, maybe humorme was just interjecting some cynical HUMOR into this conversation but you do have to be able to the heat if people don't quite think its funny. Also maybe Metro was on the way back to their station which if I remember right is on 61 South after a call. Nothing is perfect and things happen. I would call whoever could get their first.

He not only posted that once but twice. He also make a comment to legalize Hemp.

His user name also says a lot "humor me"? Get real idiot with comments like that who wants to humor you.

I think his comments & username say alot about his character.

Metro and AMR have outstanding employees. It is not uncommon for and ambulance to catch fire. There are alot of elctrical lines in their units. As a healthcare provider I respect and very much appreciate ourlocal EMS personnal.
If you have an emergency call an ambulance. There are several pre hospital interventions they provide that are life saving.

To those I have offended with my off color comments i apoligize. My interjections are not always congruent with those who spend so much of their time reading and voicing their opinions on the two and three paragragh articles on this site. Three times as much time was spent being silly and responding to silliness as it took to write this article. Again I am sorry for wasting so much of a precious resource as time, yours and mine. Now please get back to your comments, uninterupted by me, as usual. I think there is a story in "where the dart hits" about a lady growing tomatoes in Sibley. Hurry or you will waste even more.

humorme
If you are sincere about your apology it will be known soon. Some humorous thoughts are best kept to yourself not to a public newspaper.
Being a senior citizen I take alot the wrong way & apparemtly the staff at the Democrat did to by removing it. Saying comments like you did is very offensive to everyone especially women. So now is the time to GROW UP!
Keep you humor with your hemp friends not the public.
You are not funny by no means!

Your apology was fake as I knew it would be. You have alredy called me a jerk.
You need professional help & fast!!!
Better yet go on a American Idol & let Simon Cowell tell you what a JERK you are.

Firered, it was "go fly a kite you commie". HAAAA!!! I put a comment on last week in all spanish and the staff took it off. I wanted to say commie B-----d, but staff would take it off. Anyway, he's shown us how stupid and un-american he really is. I have personal friends that work for both services and a son that works for one and by far they do their jobs with extreme prejudice and do a great one at that. I salute Metro and AMR, thanks for a job well done. Let the funny person smoke his hemp and be cute somewhere else.

I have a feeling ((humorme)) is "high as a kite" 9/10's of the time.
I guess if you are high you think you are funny, but he is making a complete idiot of himself.
