Sheriff’s office issues 81 tickets over Memorial Day weekend

Published Tuesday, May 27, 2008

NATCHEZ — Over the course of the weekend, 81 tickets were issued by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Roadblocks were set up on county roads as a part of the Click It or Ticket Campaign.

There were only two driving under the influence arrests, one switched tag, three incidents of reckless driving, 45 seat belt violations, five incidents of driving under suspension, nine driver’s without licenses, 10 counts of no proof of insurance, one report of aggravated assault, two four wheelers on public roads, one report of possession of cocaine and two incidents of an expired or no license plate.

Sheriff Ronny Brown said this was an unusually high amount of tickets to be written.

“That’s more tickets ever written by the sheriff’s department since I’ve been there,” Brown said of a roadblock effort.

He said this year’s total nearly doubles totals yielded from past weekend roadblocks.

“The public is not paying attention that you have to wear a seat belt,” he said. “People are not getting the message.”

Brown said this is in accordance with a statewide effort that if a driver is not wearing their seat belt, they absolutely will get a ticket.

The campaign will continue through June 6, Brown said.

“We’ll probably do more roadblocks,” he said. “We’ve had too many fatalities on county roads.”

After so many people killed in the past few weeks without seatbelts it looks like that would make people more cautious. Some people are just too hard headed to follow rules even until their final breath.

Thing I don't like about it is this:

I don't need the ACSO, MHP or George Bush telling me to wear a seat belt. I'm a grown man, I know the dangers of not wearing a seat belt. I can make my own decision to wear it or not.
People that smoke know the dangers and they are free to light up. What's different about a seatbelt?
People die from skin cancer. There is no law about wearing sunscreen!

hope people learn from this ticket or click it it is simple like the sheriff stated it is the right thing to do obey the law

How dense does a person have to be to not have enough sense to reach over and buckle their seatbelt when they drive up on a roadblock?
I wear one everywhere I go but I don't think the government has the right to tell me to wear it. Same with helmets on motorcycles.

God gave us the knowledge to use common sense so why are so many people so stubborn? If you don't care about yourself at least care about the people that love you & would be devasted if something happen just because you don't agree with the laws.

i say forget seatbelts and start having road blocks for a better reason like, dui or dwi or people that r driving without a license. now that would be worth seeing the deputies doing their job's.i also think that if the deputies would setup road blocks every weekend for while on back roads, the depuies would see less wrecks and deaths. people say seatbelts save lives, but seatbelts can also take lives,so yes i do believe it should be your own right to wear a seatbelt or not. not the goverment or others who have lost their lives because of this.

good for u ronny brown,

now if u could only keep your deputies off main st. on friday and saturday nights from womanizing and patrolling the county where they are supposed to be you probably wouldn't have so many burglaries

Do this every weekend and we will see a drop in traffic fatalities. Keep up this good work.

eye in the sky and generoberts why don't you call the sheriff and tell him who these deputies are i am sure he would want to know i think if you are right , he would get to the bottom of those statements you made first i think you are stating things that are not true but if it is, he needs to get it straight not in a anonymous quote sounds like you need to help the sheriff patrol if you two know so much

just tell your friend ronny to ride down main st on friday and saturday nights and he will see them for himself. i know he don't like working late at night but he could do it or designate one of his croonies to do it. i have no idea who they are, all i see is them parking thier cars illegally on main st. and walking in the bars, oh and one of them is a k-9 car.

andy

you and jack must work for the SO cause everytime there is a article with ronny browns name in it you and jack act like a cheer leader for the department. just some info for you. ronny brown is not a law man. he is a politician. he weighed trucks for twenty years and baby sat thugs on probation for another 10. he never worked wrecks, went on disturbance calls or wrote tickets. he doesn't run that department, his chief deputy does. Tommy Ferrell was a law man lie him or not thats the facts. he knows everything about the law you would ever want to know. maybe they next sheriff will be a professional lawman not a professional politician who begs for money and buys votes with chicken and shrimp
