Towels cause near fire

Published Wednesday, June 11, 2008

NATCHEZ — Congregants of the New Hope Baptist Church are concerned and confused over a strange pile of burned paper towels in their church.

Deacon Mack Washington said he suspects someone tried to set the church on fire.

“I have no idea why anyone would do this,” he said.

The church, on Liberty Road, sits just over a mile from the Franklin County line.

Many of its members are from Franklin County, Washington said.

Washington’s wife, Marjorie, said the church is only used every four weeks for services.

“So we’re not sure when this happened,” she said.

Marjorie Washington said the church’s last service was May 25.

The burned pile of paper towels was not discovered until Tuesday.

Mack Washington said he could not remember if the church door was locked between the time of the last service and Tuesday.

Mack Washington said he could find no evidence that the church had been broken into after inspecting the premises.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate the matter.

Deputy Maj. Jody Waldrop said investigators, like Washington, could not find any signs of a forced entry.

But the Washingtons said they are more concerned with seeking answers than justice.

“God is going to judge them,” Mack Washington said. “That’s not my job.”

Aside from scorched linoleum there was no damage to the church.

Waldrop said the matter is under investigation.

This is really sad,my prayers are with you.SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!On whoever is responsible for doing something like this.

Its possible for paper towels with oil on them (funiture oil/polish) to spontaneously combust. I'm sure that the investigators are considering this.

Hope it all works out OK and no one wanted to burn a church.....that will NOT get you a ticket to heaven.

How do you get a ticket into heaven?

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 8:57 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Me too, sayitloud. I hope noone wanted to burn it. What a shame if they did. You're right, Mack Washington...God will judge them. I wonder what goes through the mind of people who will burn down a church? What compels them? Just sickness, I suppose. Sick, sick, sick.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:06 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You will only get a ticket into heaven if
1. You are nice to people
2. You do not lie, cheat, or steal
3. You believe in ONE GOD and his human son
4. You pray for forgiveness
5. You don't set churches on fire using paper towels

I think I would get bored in Heaven, too many nice people ALL THE TIME, and nothing fun to do except fly around and be nice to each other (and play a harp sometimes). At least it's clean there.

Can I use my frequent flyer miles? Mine never expire...so they should be good after I die. Right?

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:32 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I think Heaven is a pretty big place, to contain all the "good" human beings (and animals, reptiles, fish, and basic organic life) that has ever existed on this plant, now that has GOT to be a big place.

If I were you, I would definately start acquiring those frequent flyer miles now, otherwise you will only have enough for a short time while flying around in such an enormous area.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:32 a.m. (Suggest removal)

From what I believe, the only way to get to Heaven is through Jesus Christ. He died for our sins. If we believe in God and accept him as our personal Savior then we will go to Heaven.

John 3:16
For God So Loved The World That He Gave His Only Begotten Son That Whosoever Believeth In Him Shall Have Everlasting Life.

You can make fun of me or throw your little comments my way, that won't bother me. I KNOW where I will be when I die. Do you?

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:36 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Does it really matter, I will be dead.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If God is God, then why would he only have ONE begotten son, why not 5 or 1,000,000,000,000,000?

I am not making fun of anyone, I am merely stating what I believe, just like you.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:45 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I guess to you it won't really matter. I will pray for you. I guess that's all I can really do.

He had ONE begotten son because when that ONE son was put on the cross, he wiped our slates clean and made it where we didn't have to sacrifice for our sins anymore. He was the ultimate sacrifice that why there was only the need for ONE son.

Do you think there will be Dodge Chicken in Heaven?

Obama, What exactly is your beliefs? I've always been quite curious.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)

What about all those people who are sacrificing themselves for our country right now?

And there probably wont be a "Dodge Chicken"; maybe a "Jesus Jr. Burger" though.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:54 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That is different. That has nothing to do with God or religion or anything like that. Those men and women are sacrificing themselves for their country so that we can have the freedom to choose our beliefs, to even have this conversation. Totally different ball game there Obamayamama

How about a McSavior?

Posted by drawpaintsing (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:56 a.m. (Suggest removal)

It's hard to say how the fire got started, but I'm glad the church didn't burn. I'm glad that Mr. Washington found it. That's a beautiful building.

Obama, I'm not picking on you, but when you get a chance, find the book, "Devine Revelations of Hell" and read it. I can't remember the author, but I remember the context. It's an eye opener.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 9:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

My beliefs are personal, which is how everyone's should be. I do not boost or lay my beliefs on anyone like Christians do.

You say "the ultimate sacrifice", you should read up on why deceased soldiers receive the Metal of Honor.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:02 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I know why they recieve the MeDal of Honor. I'm very familiar with that. But like I said different ballgame.

We are given a right to religion. Why should I keep it quiet what I believe? Or should those soldiers die in vain?

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:06 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Why look to a book when I can see Hell here in Earth. This morning on the news, there was live footage from the Pakistan border of a Al Qaeda militant executing a civilian right out in public with cars driving by and people trying to live a regular life.
That is an EYE OPENER!

We shouldn't be worried about where we are going when we die. We should be worried about where the future of human civilization is going. We should be worried about future generations instead of drowning ourselves in the comfort of afterlife.

Posted by notfromnatchez (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:06 a.m. (Suggest removal)

No one is questioning your beliefs or your right to speak about it. The problem is when "christians" get mad at those who don't believe in the same "thing".

Posted by drawpaintsing (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:08 a.m. (Suggest removal)

....just a suggestion.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:13 a.m. (Suggest removal)

So, firered, you are telling me that these people giving their lives for our freedom have nothing to do with God?

Posted by cooper3k1 (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If there were more people believing in God and having total faith in him then there were be no hell on earth as it is now. You reap what you sow.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:27 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That's not exactly what I'm saying. All I'm saying is that it is two different things and not a correct comparison.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)

So, obamayamama, are you saying that it does have to do with God? Therefore, you believe in God? I'm confused.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)

WHAT? Come on now, let's be realistic. I just do not forsee 6+ billion people all believing in and HAVING TOTAL FAITH in something that is not even tangible.

Not to mention, Cooper, that is exactly what Al Qaeda believes. That is why they are trying to destroy other societies, because they believe that anyone that does NOT believe or practice Al Qaeda's beliefs should be expelled from this Earth. I am sure they all say "You reap what you sow" too, except not in English of course.

Posted by notfromnatchez (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:29 a.m. (Suggest removal)

So the only way for Earth to be good is to believe in God. Really? Are you that daft?

There have been wars for centuries solely based on the belief of God. The belief in God and the complete disregard for religious tolerance is what is wrong with this planet.

You can see right here on the Democrat. People get attacked because they may not believe in God or Jesus.

Posted by suzyq76 (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:32 a.m. (Suggest removal)

so you attack the people who do believe in God or Jesus.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:34 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm not attacking. I'm defending. You see what I said in my first post.

"You can make fun of me or throw your little comments my way, that won't bother me."

Because that is what you both do everytime someone brings up God or religion. You attack. Everytime.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Once again, I am not stating my beliefs for you or anyone to ridicule. They are personal.

Firered, do you think a soldier breathing his last breath after saving his entire platoon has to do with God? I'm confused. As far as a correct comparison, I think that Jesus and any soldier who gives his life have many similarities. Jesus was human you know, just like you and I. It is only a book that states that he was the son of GOD. It is only a BOOK written by numerous people over a broad range of time that is worshipped by millions. That is the only proof; so many people base their lives around a book.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:38 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I am not attacking, I am merely defending as well. I am defending that religion is going to be the downfall of human civilization. I am stating facts, not nonsense, and I am relating my defense to actual, perceived, events and data.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 10:44 a.m. (Suggest removal)

We should worry less about a scorched linoleum in a once-a-month attended country church and more about the future and what our children will have to face.

Until someone becomes a faithful Christian, then the understanding of the Christian belief is beyond the imaginable. The proof is in the strength and blessings you receive from trials you come across in everyday life. I don't need tangible proof to trust God. I didn't comment to ridicule anyone else or "push" my belief in God on anyone just merely stating why I do believe in God. And there is so much more but I think this was enough for now.

oh,one more thing, Christians aren't trying to destroy other societies like the Al Qaeda are doing.

Until someone becomes an independent thinker (leaving religion and Christianity behind), then the understanding of reality is no longer imagined, but defined. You said it yourself cooper " then the understanding of the Christian belief is beyond the imaginable", two key words, BELIEF and IMAGINABLE. IT IS NOT REAL!!!

Go live in your world of beliefs and imaginations, while we conceive everyday life in its REAL form.

notfromnatchez asked how you get a ticket to Heaven. That's what started all this. You asked a question, I answered. Do Not Attack my beliefs or my religion because you asked a question. What does it matter anyway what I think you don't believe in it?

Anyway... I will just pray for you all. Apparently that's all I can do.

obamayamama, Why are you critcizing me? I have not pushed my religion on anyone in any way on here. I have a family and I work for a living and I face reality everyday, I just chose to do it with God in my life, so don't be under the impression that I live in a fairytale world.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 12, 2008 at 11:25 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I am not criticizing you Cooper, I understand that you and many Christians are good people. I am, however, defending my beliefs which do NOT represent organized religion. I believe that entirely too much emphasis is placed on this practice. It has been for centuries. And I think it is time to wake up and realize that each of us is in this for each other, not for another, more supreme, devine, being who sets rules and regulations in order for someone to even believe.

It is hard to know that when things get rough in life, prayer is not an answer. But hope is.

obamayamama,
you said you not stating your beliefs for anyone to ridicule because they are personal. Apparently they are not that personal or you wouldn't make them public.
You have a very odd way of expressing your non religious beliefs & maybe you should keep them personal.

Now as for anyone cutting and running when you come alone I hardly think so. Maybe some people don't like to fool with ignorance. You said that prayer is not the answer well maybe you should try it sometimes.

Anyone that doesn't believe in God will know when Judgement Day comes, then it will be too late.

An atheist was walking through the woods. "'What majestic trees! 'What powerful rivers! 'What beautiful animals!" He said to himself.

As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge toward him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that the bear was closing in on him. He looked over his shoulder again, & the bear was even closer. He tripped & fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw & raising his right paw to strike him.

At that instant the Atheist cried out, "Oh my God!" Time Stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky. "You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to cosmic accident." "Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"

The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian?"

"Very Well," said the voice. The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. And the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head & spoke: "Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord, Amen."

hahhah! Firered...ANYMORE!!! I am no coward. And I don't understand why you would even call me that. We are all here behind our "comp" using a screenname.

All of you sit on here everyday and say the same things over and over and over each and every day. HOW BORING!! NO wonder young people are moving out of the town of Natchez. NOTHING CHANGES, oh except that Firered doesn't work at Dimples anymore.
The truth is that everytime I get involved in some interesting conversation on this website, all of you take it a little too literally. Then you roar back with the famous last words "I will pray for you". It is always Christians who come on here and stand together to try and expose my weak side.
Well I got news for you Suckers, I am enlightened enough to laugh at you. So go and pray now. Waste that mental energy. I can argue my point all day, and it will be you that hits a brick wall with your lack of physical evidence concerning religion.

Its amazing that we all sit here everyday saying the same thing over and over Boring you to tears, yet you keep coming back and reading and commenting same the same thing over and over.

I do not take you too literally. I am just, like you, expressing my opinion. Seems you are the one who is getting so offended and taking things literally by how defensive you are getting.

And I have news for you, sucker, we will be the ones having the last laugh while you are burning in Hell and we are walking the streets of Gold. Get your fill of ice water now. They don't have any in Hell!

Streets of gold, how predictible that "GOLD" would be what is stated to line the streets in Heaven. How about a substance not seen here on Earth. Oh wait, Christians can't think that far outside of the box.

Have you ever thought (be truthful now) about why people believe in religion, about how scared someone is to stand up and live in this world without some protector holding their hand every step of the way? If that isn't cowardly, I dont know what is.

And to top it all off, you say you will be walking the streets of gold after death. So that just goes to show yet another HUGE reason why religion exists, because of fear of the afterlife. Now who is the coward? Like I said before, in twenty years from now, maybe your kids will read what I have to say and choose to believe whatever they want without having these snobbish religious fanatics beating down your door!

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said,
'Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.'
The Lord led the holy man to two doors.
He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of
the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large
pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth
water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They
appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles
that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach
into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was
longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their
mouths.
The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The
Lord said, 'You have seen Hell.'
They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same
as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of
stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped
with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well
nourished and plump, laughing and talking and the holy man said, 'I
don't understand.' "It is simple,' said the Lord. 'It requires but one
skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy
think only of themselves.'
When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you.

It's ok, Coop. Some of us need that in our lives. If anyone wants to believe, they should. It does make for a more positive lifestyle.
Firered and others on here push me to the point of ridicule. Of course her corny comments are even good enough to impress Mr. Rogers. But then again, she did work at Dimples.

"As for you, Firered, what range of IQ does it take to work at Dimples?"

I never said I was sorry for standing up for my beliefs. I said I was sorry for making you feel ridiculed... Or ridiculous.. lol.. whatever.. My intentions were never to hurt someone.

To claim to be strong christians sticking together, you surely do treat folks in a very harsh way. You have a negative opinion about everything! I believe in god but I no longer attend church solely because of the hipocrisy the members displayed. Your poor attitude on these blogs only solidifies my decision. Don't worry, I will pray for you all.

Streets of Gold? Why would there be streets of gold in heaven. I thought you had to be poor to get into heaven. At least that's what Jesus told some guy in the Bible when he wanted to know how to get into heaven. Jesus told him to give up all his possessions. Hmm...

Christianity is an interesting religion. It is an agricultural religion, full of regard for astronomy and the time of planting and full of reference to fertility.

What is the point of Christianity? To me it seems like at least part of the story of Christ was a rebellion against the rise of commerce as opposed to agriculture.

Firered - I have to disagree with you on one of your comments, the majority of the people "claim" to be Christians. After some of the statements I have read on here I definately know these people are not Christians. It takes more than quoting the bible and self declaration to be a Christian.

Galatians 6:7: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

Here are some people who mocked God:

JOHN LENNON: Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said: "Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous than Him" (1966). Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

TANCREDO NEVES (President of Brazil ): During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died.

CAZUZA (Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet): During a show in Canecïo ( Rio de Janeiro ), whilst smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said: "God, that's for you." He died at the age of 32 of AIDS in a horrible manner.

THE MAN WHO BUILT THE TITANIC: After the construction of the Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: "Not even God can sink it" The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic.

MARILYN MONROE: She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said: "I don't need your Jesus". A week later, she was found dead in her apartment.

BON SCOTT: The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang: "Don't stop me, I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell". On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit.

CAMPINAS/SP IN 2005: In Campinas, Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend. The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter - holding her hand, who was already seated in the car:
"MY DAUGHTER, GO WITH GOD AND MAY HE PROTECT YOU." She responded: "ONLY IF HE (GOD) TRAVELS IN THE TRUNK, CAUSE INSIDE HERE IT'S ALREADY FULL".
Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none were broken.

Christine Hewitt: A Jamaican Journalist and entertainer, said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever written, in June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her motor vehicle.

Just something I thought I would share with everyone. This was an email I received a few months ago.

Nice post, Cooper.

But what about all the poeple who have said things about God and are still alive and kicking?

What about the people who say they believe in the word of God and preach His word who are nowhere near being Christian? For example, the people who say that the troops are being killed because America tolerates gay people. They are Chrisitians from the Westboro Baptist Church.

Yes BOBCAT...the evidence is all around us that something bigger than us created all this beauty! I think that's a major point in religion...believing in a power stronger than you. I'm not pointing this at anyone but those who deny God's existence have trouble admitting ANYTHING is bigger than they are. They feel they don't need help in troubled times, much less from something they can't see. I feel terrible that they have cut themselves off from feeling the peace, love, gratitude, and acceptance that comes with loving God. His grace is awesome and nobody still alive is spiritually lost.

obamayamama.. So firered worked at Dimples, BIG DEAL. I have worked at a many of bars so does that make me a bad person? And why in the heck would anyone want to even have a user name after someone who is a Muslim that was raised by an ATHIEST momma. To me HE is an insult to my country. Maybe you should let us have our own opinion of our beliefs and stay out of it!!!!!! You are a sick person and who are you to judge? Because let me tell you one thing when I die it sure wont be you standing at the Pearly Gates letting me in. So don't you know in the Bible it Says Don't cast the first stone and that is what you are doing to everybody on here. So take a look in the mirror and throw the stone at yourself!!

kpage--are you saying that those who don't acknowledge God don't know peace, love, gratitude and acceptance?

Come on...really?

Southern_bell--I am not an Obama fan, but he is not MUSLIM. And secondly, who cares if his mom was athiest. The Constitution does specify someone's religion in regards to presidential qualifications. Many of the founding father's themselves were atheists or agnostic. Many believed that religion should not be part of government.

Yeah, i bet you are real "southern bell" after working at all those bars in Natchez! A used up waitress like you should go and look in the mirror, but make sure it is plastic, it may break otherwise. What makes me so sick? Is it that I don't believe or follow everyone else in the city of Natchez, Mississippi? Or is it that I speak my mind, then people try to bash me so I bash back (like I am doing now). Or is it because I never worked at Dimples? You are the sick one if you worked there, you should definately get tested! You could probably get E.Coli poisoning just by slightly nudging the side of the grungy bar!

My username is not recognizing Obama in a positive way, maybe YOU should let me have MY beliefs and STAY OUT OF IT! Although you may not realize it due to the obstruction of Christianity, I am just as equal as you and can judge JUST LIKE YOU!

Obama, although I believe in God, I really hope one day you have a change of heart. But some of the people on here aren't true chritians, and I can't say that I'm perfect. All I can say is I'm trying. I can see that you are a strong-minded person, and so are the people against you. But to the one's who are claiming to be christian, try being an example of one and "turn the other cheek,". Because by the way some of us act on this site, we are the reasons some may second-guess Christianity. When two parties are debating one another, it is not good to throw "punches" at each other. It only defeat each other's view, and nothing is really solved. ...........Yeah, I know shut up, drawpaintsing.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 13, 2008 at 10:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

No, don't shut up. You are 100% correct. I'm not perfect either, nor do I claim to be. I know I act in ways that I shouldn't sometimes, and by no means am I any example of what people should look at for what a Christian should be. But I'm trying and that's all I can do.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 13, 2008 at 11:02 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Ok, draw, that is an intelligent entry. I enjoy debate but when the name calling starts, I must fire back. I do believe in God as well, and I believe good people are here and they make this world a better place to live.

Firered, I am not going to attempt to try and copy/paste previous entries. I try and defend myself and someone the whole arguement gets twisted into name calling. I am sure you are a decent person that makes an honest living. I am proud of you for changing your employment. It takes moving out of Natchez to look back and realize why I look at Dimples in such a negative way.

obamayamam...were you on a debate team in school?

Posted by drawpaintsing (anonymous) on June 13, 2008 at 11:22 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I know that everyone will not agree, but it doesn't take name calling to do it. I find myself arguing with people on here, until I realize it. Then I stop. There are some on here I can "debate" with, and there are somes who don't like me for some reason or another.

Obama, you could make a good lawyer.

Posted by firered (anonymous) on June 13, 2008 at 11:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I know that not all people like Dimples.. that doesn't bother me. I honestly don't bother myself with wondering who does or does not like the place. I just do not want to be looked down upon because I worked there. It does not make me a bad person. Or any of the stereotypes that were placed upon me. I loved my job and the people I met while working there. Just please don't criticize me for making an honest living.

I do ask you, obamayamama, to go back and re read all of the comments as I just did and see where everything went astray.

Oh, and cooper3k1 I was asked that same question yesterday.. lol.

Posted by drawpaintsing (anonymous) on June 13, 2008 at 11:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)

My mom always told me Firered, that "It's not what you are called, it's what you answer to." At least you are not living off the system.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on June 13, 2008 at 11:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Well, I will say this: after growing up in Natchez, I felt very repressed and ashamed. Our family was poor, and everyone who was anyone at school had money. It seemed to be all about what kind of car your parents drove, where you Dad worked, how expensive your clothes were (remember Girbauds?), or who you knew. No, I wasn't on a debate team, my self esteem was too low to stand out in a crowd.

But when I moved away and actually began opening myself up to education, I began to look back at my childhood and see just how judgmental, stereotypical, and hypocritical people can really be.
Now firered, you may not believe me especially based on my previous comments, but I try my hardest not to judge people. I make comments to look like I judge, but I really don't feel any different about you or anyone whether they are the mayor or a a janitor. Dimples is not an attractive place to be. I feel like a piece of meat when I walk in, no one gives or gets any respect in that place. Nothing against the employees, just the environment.

Draw, thanks for the lawyer comment, kind of makes me feel good about myself.

I think there alot of people on here were on the debate teams! I have never had that gift, if that is what you would call it.
This is fun, but I feel it gets out of hand when people start "attacking" other people personally...and it doesn't matter who started it.
Well, I think I am calling it quits on this particular article. The boss hasn't said anything yet about me spending time on the net and I don't want him to. Everyone have a great weekend and I will check in later to see what else is happening in Natchez. God Bless Everyone! :)

one more thing, obamayamama, I just read your post and had to reply. I was also the same way. Our family was not rich while I was growing up and there were things that we could not afford like other families. There were places in Natchez that I did not like the atmosphere of while I did live there, too. But, I have noticed that there are places like that in every town. You just have to find what it right for you. The good thing though is that it made you a stronger person as far as voicing your opinion and not letting someone run you over. I also think you would make a awesome lawyer
And I hope we do get the rain...we need it!

No, I know that behind the taunts and sneers there is a good person in there, obama! :) I guess we're alot alike, when I was younger it was the Airwalks. I wanted some so bad, but my mom always bought the wal-mart brand. I was made fun of but who cares. I wore my wal-mart shoes proudly (kinda, lol) It sucks to be judged but you are right we all do it. Something we could all work on, be more concious about!

We use to get those blue tags off of the Keds (shoes) and glue them on the cheap Ked knock-offs! The funniest thing I can remember is see a guy in school that had a pair of Nike knock-offs and HE had drawn a check mark on the side of the shoe! To me, that makes a better fashion statement than having real Nike's!

Glad to clear the air Firered, nice to start the weekend off right!

obamayamama...I never said I worked at Dimples. Went to it a couple of times when I was younger and enjoyed listening to Easy Eddie & The Party Rockers. But it didn't take me long to figure out when you walk into the wrong door to find the manager and some cops in uniform snorting coke up their nose to find another place.
And as far as Dimples now, you have to be kiddin if I go into it now! To many fights there for this old girl. I like the comforts of my home now.
And as far as your beliefs who cares. So I guess if you look at your username I'll take it as the old saying when I was younger when kids would say something and we reply, Your Mama. lol
So I don't think there is nothing wrong with working in a bar..Not a choice I would do now, because I have a good job. But if it ever come to that point in life where I had to it sure wouldn't be in any bar in Natchez!!!!
