Rising gas prices doing damage to county budget
Published Saturday, June 14, 2008
NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors, confronted with some frightening figures, discussed ways to conserve the county’s fuel usage at Friday’s meeting.
Supervisor S.E. “Spanky” Felter said escalating fuel costs are putting the county’s budget in danger.
Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Maj. Charles Harrigill said the cost of fuel will put the ASCO’s fuel budget in at least a $30,000 deficit.
“We have to respond to calls,” Harrigill said. “We run 24-hours a day seven days a week.”
Harrigill said the projected deficit would result from the increased cost of fuel, not the inefficient use of fuel.
“When fuel goes up 80 percent that impacts the budget,” he said. “And we cannot stop patrolling the county.”
However Harrigill has already found a way to save some money on the gas bill.
He realized some deputies were filling their patrol cars with fuel other than regular.
“That has been stopped,” he said.
While the supervisors did not indicate where the money to cover the costs would come from, all acknowledged a need to conserve fuel when ever possible.
The board also discussed the possible acquisition of more fuel-efficient vehicles for use by the Adams County Road Crew.
Board President Henry Watts said the supervisors will be continuing to work on the problem.
“We have got to figure out some cost saving measures,” he said.
In other news, Natchez Regional Medical Center CEO Scott Phillips addressed the board. Phillips gave the board an overview of meeting earlier this week with the Mississippi Development Bank’s Credit Committee.
Hospital attorney Walter Brown and Watts also attended that meeting.
Phillips said the credit committee must approve the hospital’s pursuance of a loan.
Funds from the loan would be used, in part, to hire a consulting firm to analyze the hospital and determine if it should be leased or sold.
Phillips said he has also spoken with two possible groups to conduct the study.
Phillips said both the Horne Group and KPMG have indicated their availability to appear before the board, to be interviewed, as early as the last week of this month.

Last time I checked the Lawmen in Aspen and Vail were mounted in Saabs. (insert little yellow smiley face)

This is going to be a growing problem all over the world. Law Enforcers, Ambulance Services, Fire Fighters, and any and all other emergency response teams are struggling to pay for gas to help save a life. What is this world coming to?

The solution is simple. Raise sales taxes and property taxes.

But another solution would be to raid other villages and counties.

Yes, and that one is attractive as well, isn't it? I think HInds County is ripe for a raid. They have more of everything up there and it's not fair.

I honestly wasn't freaked out by gas prices till it hit 4 bucks a gallon here this week. Now, I am worried sick. There has to be a solution. I mean, what are we going to do?
It is really frightening.

Take heart ntzmom. The Magna Charta still lives in the UK. Yesterday Ireland voted down the Lisbon Treaty that would have created a dictator for the European Union.
In the US Dennis Kucinich introduced a motion for impeachment on thirty five counts. Visit his website and read the articles of impeachment.
Acquaint yoursellf with world affairs so you will know how to vote locally, statewide, and nationally because all these things are related.
Write in Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, or Ralph Nadar for president.

Nader??? (groan......)
Ron Paul is closer to reality. Good ideas, but bad stage presence which is a necessity for getting elected in this day and time.
ntzmom can read about Kucinich here:

There must be hundreds of articles up about the impeachment now OldGrandDad, funny how you picked the one on al-jazeera. Note also that bin Laden has never been indicted for connection to Sept. 11. The FBI says this is because there is no hard evidence linking him to it.
A much more interesting international figure is Simeon Mogilevich who would be a good person to ask about the whereabouts of bin Laden. This man is a Russian mafiosi, or more accurately a Jewish mafiosi though it is not poltically correct to say that- when you hear Russian Mafia that means Jewish Mafia.
If it is dirty, and connected to arms and terrorism and money, Simeon is the man you want to talk to. He owns I think twelve armament factories in one former eastern bloc country.
Read about him here:
http://www.margieburns.com/blog/_archive...
He is just as hard to catch as bin Laden, though he likes the high life and resort hotels. Somehow they just can't catch him.

Now, I wonder if Larry Silverstein knows of or knows Simeon Moglevich? You know, the Larry Silverstein who purchased the World Trade Center lease in July of 2001 six weeks before the terrorist attack and insured it for 3.5 billion dollars against terrorist attack. The Larry Silverstein who put 15 million down and collected 4.6 billion in insurance payments.
Yes, they would make quite a pair, those two. Simeon had already done a 10 billion dollar money laundering scheme through the Bank of New York, who had no idea he was laundering money, of course, and Larry tried to collect twice his premium claiming two planes amounted to two terrorist attacks. And maybe they would like a drink with #3 CIA insider Buzzy Krongard who formerly worked at AB Brown, the bank still holding 2.5 million dollars in put options from 911.

Yes, there are terrorists about, but who the hell are they?
I guess we will never know.

Honestly, you didn't leave a link to the Kucinich website so I picked the first one google brought up. I use 'em all the time and really don't consider them anymore biased than most "mainstream" news. With most news sources I find I have to tilt my monitor in order to correct the slant in which the story was written.
Who are the terrorists? I've got UK friends that say the US had zero interest in their problem with the IRA and that we allowed contributions to them right up until 9/11. Its not like I can argue with them......

EnKiKur---Why not just staying home on voting day? If you are going to vote for one of the three you suggested, you may as well stay home and not waste your vote. I like one of the people you mentioned, but he ain't got a snowball chance in you know where of being elected. The election commission could take the votes for all three of these combined and let one person have them and it would not make a difference----except in the final outcome maybe!
Look at Perot---Clinton paid all of his expenses and kept him in the race just so Perot would split the Republican vote, and it worked. Perot did not have a chance of winning, but he split the vote and Clinton won.

Going back to the fuel prices. It is easy. Open up ANWAR, drilling off California and Florida, and open up our oil reserves wide open for a about a month. It would cost the Arabs billions in their pocketbooks and force them to quit playing with the supply to create incredulous prices.

In an economic crunch, everyone looks for the boogeyman; Republicans, Democrats, Congress, environmentalists, Arabs, etc. But the Saudis are increasing production because they too are worried about how high the prices have gone. Article here:

i would go for raising my taxes than for parking a sheriff car and wouldn't the robbers and burglars love that, the sheriff dept here does a good job of patroling our county and we should make sure they have what they need to do the job

we all knew this was going to happen, but i still want to see that sheriff deputy when i call 911 or my alarm goes off. I am well pleased with the adams so and hope the supervisors give these guys all they need to keep our county as safe as possible. yes we are not crime free, but look around us. we are so lucky here , at least if you call the sheriff's office a deputy does come and get out of the car to assist you, you do not get this in the city of natchez i know i live in the city

tim, why stand up for limited choice? Blue has a special on oranges and Red has a special on apples. Buy some of both at either place and you end up paying the same price.
It doesn't matter which of these two establishment hacks get elected, they don't set policy anyway. Obama has already voiced his undying support for Israel and McCain is for universal health care. Probably the best thing is for them to just be honest and run on the same ticket in a power sharing arrangement like we want to force on Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
No, I take that back. The best thing would be for the whole country to stay home on election day and send these political prostitutes a message about who it is they are elected to serve. It ain't Israel and it ain't World Corporatism or the UN.

if the sheriff office stop using the patrol cars for personal use, just drive them to and from work that will save a lot.

Of course the county does have that 370 thousand from the recent land sale on Foster Mound Road to buy gas with...that money they are saving for a rainy day. It will be fun to see what solution they come up with.

As long as oil is traded in US dollars only, the costs of EVERYTHING in America will continue to rise at rapid rates.
Cast blame at whoever or whatever you like to ease your pains but the problem are the counterfeiters (the Federal Reserve) who are printing the dollars out of thin air with nothing to back it up(gold/silver)and as long as "we" blame this and blame that for the false high costs that affects our lives daily we will only see the dollar drop more. It's called hyperinflation.
EnKiKur-you bring up Larry Silverstein (who on PBS said that he gave the order to "PULL IT" referring to WTC7)and his WTC scam I'm personally glad to see that others are starting to question what they saw on TV that day.

...and I will add that neither McCain or Obama are even talking about this problem of hyperinflation and out of control government spending.

Americans have no one to blame for the oil crunch but ourselves...we allowed the environmentalists to shut down oil exploration and drilling, now the Chinese and Cubans are drilling off the Florida coast...we allowed them to shut down new refinery production, most are 25+ years old and breaking down...we allowed them to shut down nuclear station construction...we allowed them to fraudulently claim ethanol is economically viable, the ethanol costs 1 1/2 times the cost of the gasoline and drives up the cost of food...we allowed them to stop clean coal production and usage...we allowed them to prohibit oil shale recovery...we allowed them to convince people to believe that global warming is an immediate and real threat when it isn't even agreed on by the scientists, in fact, more scientists agree that we are headed for global cooling...we allowed them to make almost every form of energy more expensive and impossible to get by way of voting FOR them and their agenda...it is ECO-TERRORISM...they have created the crisis they've been working for with our help.

All we did was vote for members of Congress who allowed all that to happen Sam. Those are the culprits. Why should the vote of an envirommentalist have more weight than the vote of anyone else? Because Congress wants it to. It is profitable for Congress and for the oil companies. One gets more tax revenue and the other gets more profit.

I second what acedog said...let them stop using their county cars for anything other than work. No more picking up the kids from school...I know it's summer, so that's no biggie, but when school time comes back around...no family or personal business allowed in the county cars.

Bush lied, people died, and prices went sky high. It's not only gas prices, food is outrageous too. Those buildings were imploded, and Bush's brother, Marvin, was head of security at the Twin Towers and airports where the planes were highjacked. We destroyed Iraq, and now MOTHER NATURE is paying us back. You just don't mess with MOTHER NATURE. But the Bush Carlisle Cartel are smiling all the way to the bank, just like after the S & L fiasco years ago. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...they've made it a family career out of fooling Americans.
Thar's a say'n in tha ol west...wanted dead or alive...smoke em outta der holes...but, it seems that we failed to circle the wagons in Iraq, boyz. I guess Bush is still trying to figure out how to milk that stallion. We should at least circle the wagons in the USA, and maybe we will, after we rid the gov of "dollar" and her rifle misfiring vampire along with his blood sucking cohorts. In the mean time, we will all continue to struggle and WE WILL survive.
