Natchez police car sidelined after wreck
Published Wednesday, June 18, 2008
NATCHEZ — A Natchez Police patrol car was placed out of commission Monday night after it was involved in an accident.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., the 2005 Crown Victoria police cruiser driven by officer Bryan Seyferth was struck by the 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by Nicole White at the intersection of Seargent S. Prentiss Drive and John R. Junkin Drive, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
Seyferth was driving through the intersection from the south at a low speed with blue lights and siren engaged, responding to a call when the Pontiac, which was eastbound, struck it on the left back bumper, Mullins said.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, but no serious injuries were reported from the accident, Mullins said.

I hope loud music or cell phone was not the case. Glad to hear there were no serious injuries.

She was not paying attention and went through the intersection as he went through it, slammed on brakes and hit him in the rear. I thank God no one was injured.
Many people run that red light anyway. I have almost gotten hit several times.

I was on the scene of this accident and the Democrat or Mr. Mullins is mistaken. The patrol car struck the other car. (Impact on the patrol car was on the left front and the right front of the other car. They pretty much ran into each other. The patrol car suffered minimal damage and the other vehicle was totaled. The newer automobiles are not made as good as the crown vic, that's for sure. I am glad everyone was ok! It is unclear as to why the girl didn't see the police officer.

They love to twist the facts of these police car accidents don't they? Remember the one at the intersection of State and MLK not too long ago?

People run the lights in Natchez like they aren't even there. The one by the Wallgreen's at the old weigh station has someone run it every light cycle. The NPD rarely is enforcing traffic laws.

Why doesn't the Democrat ever INVESTIGATE a story before going to print, rather than simply serving as a mouthpiece for the City/County/Hospital or whatever flavor-of-the-week governmental entity they are currently promoting? The fact of the matter is that the last time a NPD cruiser ran a light somebody died -- and there was a lawsuit. This time, fortunately, no one died -- but there is definitely going to be another lawsuit. The FACT of the matter is that the "girl" -- Alexis White NOT Nicole White (the least you could expect from a newspaper is that they might get the NAME right even if the story is completely wrong) -- was struck 100% broadside on the front passenger side of her car as she was going through the green light by Ruby Tuesday's. The officer even reported there on the scene that he was running the red light on the way to a fight at King's Tavern. Why is it that the Democrat didn't bother to interview the other driver who actually got hit (aside from the obvious fact that they didn't even care to find out her actual name) but chose to print only one side of the story? C'mon DEMOCRAT -- the people of Natchez deserve better than that!

I'll tell you one better then this . Last night at 8:oo pm, My son in law called me ( my daughter and son in law live in Jackson) To tell me that my daughter had been in a wreck. Well needless to say I went crazy. come to find out she was STOPPED at a Traffic light when the light turned green, a cop hit her from behind, HE did say that his foot SLIPPED off of the brake and hit the gas. Now somebody please tell me, how can your foot slip off hit the back of her car and her sunglasses wound up in the back seat. Hmmm. She had to go to the er. Thank God she is all right. But scared the crap out of me.

I will be investigating this matter myself. If you watch this cops around here when they take off they just punch it and go. Some law inforcement agencies think that they are above the law.

A friend that was on the scene at this one said his lights weren't even on. I have seen this many times myself, city and county cars hurrying to get somewhere and no sirens, no lights, nothing. Guess they figure why turn them on, it doesn't do any good, people don't get out of the way anyhow. The cop did run the light, if they are going to completely go against traffic laws they need to have lights and sirens going so the general public, who is paying attention, can take the necessary steps to protect their safety. To Protect and Serve seems a little over the top in cases like this.
