Warrants have been issued for alleged counterfeiters
Published Friday, June 20, 2008
NATCHEZ — Walter T. Jones and Linzell S. Thornburg have allegedly gone on a spending spree — the problem is their money is fake.
Warrants have been issued for Jones and Thornburg, who were last seen in Vidalia, Natchez Police Department Sgt. Craig Godbold said.
“We’re chasing them hard,” Godbold said. “They’ve been passing $100 bills all over Vidalia and Ferriday.”
The two have allegedly spent at least 14 counterfeit $100 bills in Natchez and four in Vidalia, Godbold said. He was not sure how many had been used in Ferriday. Most of them were used at restaurants, gas stations, Wal-Mart and one at Natchez Municipal Court.
The bills have been hard to find and the counterfeiters have done several things to make them look real.
For example, when real bills are marked with a currency testing pen, the line shows up a light brown color. With the counterfeit money, the line is black.
To get around this, the bills were already marked with a light brown marker so that cashiers would not think to mark them again, Godbold said.
Most of the bills were not identified until they reached the banks, Godbold said.
“So many people have handled the bills that by the time we get them the process of finger printing will be lengthy because we have to do process of elimination for everybody’s prints that were on it,” Godbold said.
There are other key traits that can be used to identify the bills, Godbold said.
Nearly all the $100 bills that have been found have the same serial number, BD07415928A.
They also lack the watermark and the magnetic strip on the inside of the bill.
There are also counterfeit $20 bills circulating in the area, but police have not been able to tie these to Jones and Thornburg.
Because of how many bills have been showing up, police think there may be more people involved, Godbold said.
“We expect more arrests to follow,” he said. “We want to know where (the bills) are coming from.”
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 601 442-5000, Godbold said.

Already marked with brown markers so they did'nt bother to mark them again??? I've always marked bills again even when there were 5 or 6 marks on them already. How many ppl did this before someone figured it out? Geez, that's what the markers are for!

The federal reserve is doing the same thing by printing phony-money with nothing to back it up.
Nobody is doing anything about the counterfeiters in Washington but whine and complain that the money we have won't buy much anymore.

If what you say is true doubled, they should take her kids from her. I can't believe a mother would go on the lam with kids left behind. This is what is wrong with our youth and children. Too many being raised without guidance and moral support from parents.

She has two brothers Keith and Cordell. I think they have all been in some sort of trouble with the law at some point. However, I have never know their mother to be in any sort of trouble like this. I dont blame the mother for their actions nor do I believe she really upholds them in their wrong doing. As any mother, when everybody else in coming down on your child they must have someone to reach out to. I think she does what any mother would do and that is to let her children know that she loves them unconditionally. Any time I've come in contact with her she has always been a nice respectable lady. Lay off the mom. This girl is an adult and knows right from wrong. I think her mom did as much as she could do.

God forgive me for what I say, But this Linzel Thornburg is the same clown cursing people out and upholding her young son for his wrong doing. Look at the pathetic example she sets for him. She stays in the street cursing fighting over men and stealing. This is why we need funding for social workers to go in homes and see what is going on and deem some unfit parents! The child is currently in an alternative school setting to my knowledge.

Parents let this be a lesson. Stop laughing and grinning with your kids when they do something wrong. Stop cursing out the school officials when they call about your child. Remember you are not big brother and big sister. Stand up and be mom and dad. If you plant the seed even if the child strays it won't be far. No one should want this to be they child.

Educators need to respect the parent as well as the child everyone who teaches people's children should be understanding but that let me know that the teachers here in the Natchez school district don't have respect for the parents and thats why the children don't have respect for the teacher, so lay off the parent and respect the child...it could be your own one day ....remember that!!!!

Why use contraceptive when everyone knows that the govenment will pay for the delivery, food, dayycare, and a place to live for these children? The more children you have, the more welfare you get out of the government. Make all the babies you can so you can collect more food stamps, more TANF, more housing, etc. Who cares that you are unmarried, on your 4th child with a different dad and only 20 yrs old? Take all you can without lifting a finger to support yourself or pay for the mistakes you have made. That way any extra money you have can go towards $2000 rims, $200 jeans that sag below your knees, a car stereo system that is more than the car is worth, a hairdo that cost over $60 and nails with shining colors that cost over $30. Be real, do you really think people are going to use contraceptives when they have all these advantages not to use them?
The government has "spoiled" people and that is stating it mildly. There should be a cut off of how much the government will spend on these unwed mothers. They should be made to pay after the first child with no epidural to give birth and maybe they will start thinking twice before having a bunch of children that they cannot support. Welfare is for people that are in need, and I don't think it should be taken advantage of by people that are not trying to better themselves and make improvements with their lives to support their children.
The morals of the US have really gone to the dogs. One mistake is understandable, but when you continue to make the same mistake over and over there has to be a point where you pay for them, not the government with taxpayers money!

Cooper this is what we face in the district. People or rather homeboy stop skipping the truth and do a reality check. I am old enough to be your grand and if you must know my children are grown and successful. Parents must come to grips and face that they have a tremendous responsibility. And I don't care what you and anyone else says when you bring a life in this world its time to grow up and face responsibility. That means J_O_B!

My mother kept my son while I worked and I paid her every 2 wks, however, that was the only time they "babysat" for me. Their philosohpy was "you had him, you raise him" I appreciate them so much, now, and I would not give anything for what they taught me!

Homeboy,
You have to understand that the teachers are not all at fault. There are alot of kids that have no respect for other people and that is based on how they are raised. School official are faced with alot of kids that are not taught how to respect their "elders". That has cause alot of the school staff to be that way with the children in todays society. The school officials are not the problem; it is how the children are brought up.
I am not trying to start a drawn out disagreement, but everyone has to look at the whole picture.
Posted by Perro (anonymous) on June 20, 2008 at 11:49 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Homeboy please don't take it personal. However, The only point I choose to make is if you are out in the streets playing Bonnie and Clyde what the @#$$ can you hope for the poor soul to turn out to be. My only point is if you are a parent stop looking for excuses and pointing fingers and stand up and be a role model for that child. Most of these young girls are uneducated, unmarried, and irresponsible. Somewhere it has to stop! The schools and society can't make it better. It has to start with the parent; the one who bought that precious life in the world. Being a parent is not like buying a babydoll for godsake! I want nothing more for Linzel and any other parent that fits this bill is to embrace parenthood. And to cooper let me say I agree with you a 100% its time to regulate all of these free benefits. It just makes a lot of us lazy and irresponsible.

If parents were force to financially endure what its like to take care of kids with less government help I think it would definately give a lot of young moms a swift kick into reality. I say stand up and work like me and my husband did. And you know what to any young girl if a dog bite you once its the dog's fault but if you keep getting all of these kids when you know fool well you are no where nere capable morally, finacially, or any other ways its your fault.

That is right, Perro. I agree! I have an 18 yr old and a 3 1/2 year old. Why so far apart? Because I KNEW I could not support another child!!! Of course, with my second child I was remarried over 5 years before I had him. We knew we could not handle a child when we first married and we waited until we were BOTH ready for the responsibility.
What I said earlier about the epidural was a fact, too. If more of these young girls had to have a child naturally, then I feel they would think twice about getting pregnant again. It is too easy nowadays!!

As I stated before Ms Perro, get the facts before you speak...Finanically the government is not taking care of anyone..me, you, and everyone's tax dollar support the helplessness of any welfare recipient, that is what FICA is for, and by the way don't start a sentence with And, it is not the words of an educated person, like I said do me and yourself a favor..stop commenting and get yourself an education before you start the articulation.

Yes, I know their mother and she is a well-adjusted woman. I do not think she had any control over what her daughter did. She is an adult. Instead of talking down on her, pray for her. Nobody is saying anything about this young man. All the talk is about the Thornburgs. Who knows, maybe he led her down the wrong path. You know young ladies have a tendency to follow the men. How can you judge all the Thornburgs with one has done? A lot of you are talking, but if you had the counterfeit money, I'll bet you would buy gas and groceries, if not computers and big screen tv's. This cycle has just got to stop.

Overall, we need to stop and take a look around at our society. Morals need to be brought back to all communities. Guard your children and teach them right from wrong. I love my children, however, I am the first to tell them when they are wrong about something and the consequences because of it. You sow what you reap and that is very important in your children's lives, as well as your own. Fear God; HE is the judge of everybody.
Good night everyone!

Mr. Coper, no you don't necessary need an education to make comments, but you do need common sense, in which I most definitely see you do not have and when you don't have that, it appears your sense and Ms. Perro's sense of understanding is limited to ignorance and not intelligences. Most intelligent people do not make small talk about people, because they do not have the sugar cube mentalities such as yours, it's ate up in ghettoism, sarcasm, stupidity, and may I say "Ugly critical remarks". However, as you know people talked about Jesus Christ who made us all and still he forgave us, so why do you think he won't forgive her; because, " we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God", so that lets me know you lack poor understanding both mentally and religiously, to both of you read your Bible and pray for your sins of criticizing this young lady, her children, and her family. I am sure they are not concerned one bit about the comments you have made because God is still on their side and he is still in control of every situation, whether its good or bad, he's not like you, because if he was I feel sorry for the people of this world. People like you make the world a sick place to live becasue you are sick minded people who don't have anything better to do with your lives but center it around somebody eles's life. So do me and yourself a favor "GET A LIFE" evidently you don't have one because you are so concerned about someone else's. May God add a blessing to the reading of these words and sanctify the understanding there of, especially to those who are ignorant.

MR. Homeboy,
I was not criticizing one particular person. I was talking about the majority of people who want everything GIVEN to them instead of EARNING it. I was standing up for Perro because you were constantly dogging her out concerning her grammer and calling her uneducated. You must also fit that category because your grammer was not so perfect either in the comments you posted. So take your own advise and don't judge people when you are making the same mistakes.

Also, I do have a life! I work over 40 hours a week and take 16 hours of college courses. I am also a wife and a mother to 2 sons. You need to stop acting like you are so much better and smarter than other people and stop criticizing how people type their comments on this website. If you "had a life" you would not be on here making comments either! I stick by the comments I posted earlier and I am sure there are alot of people that agree with what I said about the welfare system and people that take advantage of it!

My comments were directed towards a comment previously posted, not towards the person the article was about. Just because I have an opinion about the welfare system does not mean that I do not have religion in my life. You need to stop jumping to conclusions about my personal relationship with the Lord. Like I said previously, you need to take your own advise!

Ms. Cooper let me tell you something, it is quite obvious to me that I don't give a gotdam how many hours you are taking, the number of children you have and the perfect mammy you are trying to be in raising those two sons who might be a statistic of society on welfare and any government assistance they could get if they had too, that's irrelevant of the point that I am trying to make. Many people do not want to be on welfare, but in many instances they do not have a choice. It is offered to the general public under the law, so whomever qualifies for it, can get it. Have you ever heard of the words requirements and regulations? However, getting an education is one thing, but it is how effective you can apply it and utilize it in this society. A sense of understanding outweighs any type of education anyone has. If you can hold down a job, get along with people, and have a sense of understanding, then you are educated Ms. Coooper. That is the point I am trying to make not so much to the degree of your sarcasm. The point is that you are trying to impress the genearl public with remarks that are referred to the family members in a condescending demeanor in which you do not have that to do. It behooves me, how you white people think you have all the answers in the world, and nobody knows as much as you all do, but I am here tell you thats a lie. Many of us are more knowledgable, well educated, and have proven our credibility in anything that we cut out to do. So getting a college education is one thing, but being able to use and utilize it is another. I work more than 40 hours a week, I have a professional job, a career, and many degress, but it doesn't make me any better than anyone else, but of course it makes me better than you; becuase quite naturally you are a poor white/black ghetto trash trying to educate yourself in the wrong demeanor by making selfish remarks without including yourself as a victim of the welfare system yourelf, that's why you are so hard on welfare recipients, because a guilty conscious speaks its own mind and you are just that kind, who sits on your behind and gets welfare yourself.

How can you throw things in my face about needing to read the Bible more and being more religious when you are talking to me like that? Apparently, you need to have a closer relationship with God yourself! I am NOT POOR white trash and I am not on welfare. There was a time when I did have welfare assistance and I did not take advantage of it by continuing to depend on it to survive like alot of young people do today. I am referring to whites and blacks! I have a professional job and I have a good relationship with people. I work in a field of work that requires me to have good people skills and I have been for over 20 years. You don't judge me personally because you do not know me or the kind of life I live. You were saying things to Ms Perro and belittling her to make yourself look better and that was wrong. That does not make you better than me because I was not doing that to someone directly. I was not referring to the people in the article, like I said in my prior post. You, sir, need to take a good look at the remarks you were making towards Ms. Perro. You were wrong by doing that just like you are wrong for assuming things about me that you have NO clue about. Good Day Mr. Perro. I will keep you in my prayers.

Ms.cooper, I am sure you are guilty of the remarks you have made because if you were not, you would not want to pray for your texting friend Mr. Perro. I am Mr. Homeboy as you know, so don't get the name twisted as to whom you are referring to. This lets me know your preception of writing is poor and inadequate. So, when you write something proofread it first, because any writer knows the steps for the writing process. However, you don't need to pray for me, because I am always praying for myself and everybody else. So, my dear Ms. Cooper, my prayers goes out to you that you won't make this mistake again in the near future. Its been good conservation without the obligations of knowing that you did the right thing by giving up and letting God and letting Go of your critical comments. It's been Great!

I was in a hurry. I apologize for the mistake. I was headed to church.

I would like to point out exactly what I meant by my earlier posting. I realize that there are people who need welfare and I am behind that 100 percent; however, there are also alot of people who take advantage of it, especially the younger generations. Young people today do not have morals and responsibilities like we did 20 years or so ago. They think it is alright to get pregnant over and over because welfare does make it easier for them. Values are not taught to the young children of today and I feel that it is a problem that has caused alot of disruption in our society. God needs to be brought back into the schools along with some corporal punishment. Parents need to also bring this back into their homes. I am so very thankful to God that my parents raised me in church and taught me these types of values. They were probably the best parents a child could ask for.
Mr. Homeboy, I feel you and I got off on the wrong foot concerning my postings. Please understand that I do not disrespect you in any way and we all are entitled to our opinions. I do not consider myself a "writer" and I do not feel that I should meet that qualification to give my opinion. I realize that I am not perfect and do not portray to be. I work for all that I have and pray that God will continue to bless me and my family in all ways. The country's morals are in bad shape and we all need to pray for everyone.
