Clayton teen drives into apartment

Published Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Clayton — An evening drive turned into a trip to the emergency room for one Clayton teen.

Clayton Police Chief Clarence Skipper said a 16-year-old male drove his mother’s 2006 Impala into the front of an apartment early Monday evening.

“He thought he was applying the brake,” he said.

Instead the boy stepped on the accelerator and rammed the car into the front of a single unit at the Tensas Apartment complex.

Skipper said the boy had to be taken by ambulance to Riverpark Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident.

The apartment’s occupant was at work during the accident.

Skipper would not say if the driver was licensed and said he was still trying to determine if he had permission to use the vehicle he was driving.

“He could be facing some charges,” Skipper said. “We’re still investigating.’’

Skipper said the apartment was not seriously damaged in the accident.

“Only the nose of the vehicle went in,” Skipper said.

Come on ND, do some spell checking!!! You have an extra 's' on teen in the title and messing up a man's name like that is just toooooo much. It is funny though how accurate you labeled him when you misspelled his name!!

fact.... in ms if you start at 15 years old and pass all required testing you at age 16 can drive 24-7 by your self. This would allow that boy, who knows the brake from the gas petal, to take that 3 ton machine and drive behind or in front of your family. My opinoin is the State should raise the age limit to 17 or 18 before releasing one next to my friends and family.

bulldozer, your theory only works in theory. The simple fact is that no matter what age you allow people to start driving at, they will still just be a beginner, whether is be 16 or 19. My father started teaching me to drive on back country roads when I was 11. It was scary at first, but there's not much you can hit in the middle of a field. I think that if parents do just as my father did, and slowly work their kids into driving, there will be far fewer accidents based on simple inexperience.

The problem with The Democrat is not that they don't use spell check, spell check will only catch misspelled words, they need to proof read their material to ensure they are using the proper word in its correct context. DIDN'T YOU LEARN TO ALWAYS PROOF READ YOU WORK BEFORE TURNING IT IN

As an insurance agent I can agree with snowgarden all the time we see accidents come through here with beginner drivers. Dosent matter weither your 15 or 24!! Although we do see more 15 and 16 yr old drivers envolved in accidents and thats because there are simply careless and not paying attention!! Cell phones and radios!! I think that part of a driving course should be accidents and the repercussions of accidents

I live in clayton and there is less Crime here than Ferriday,Vidalia and Natchez so keep your stupid, negative comments to your self.Ya'll worry about the crooked politicians and crystal meth in your area .

Parents need to spend more time with their children while they(children) are driving before letting them do it on their own. Just because they have a license does not mean they don't need supervision. They are still beginners.

Well... I have a 16 year old daughter whom I have been trying to teach to drive since she was 14. She has had and passed drivers ed with a 100 average. My point is she is HORRIBLE.... I can write a book on all the crazy things she has done.... I don't know how she passed drivers ed much less finished with a 100 average in it.... She would come home telling me everyday how many times the teacher would use the break on her. Like, "I did so good today mama, he only had to use the break on me 3 times!!!" I sigh and do major praying everytime she gets behind the wheel.... If I am with her, I have to play a game on my phone so I wont nick pick, and "make her nervous".... I don't envy anybody trying to make it through these years...... I have a son who is 11 and can drive better than her already...... sigh...

tolduso- i will give you the benefit of the doubt since you are more than likely misinformed about the social standings of the surrounding areas. Last time I checked you would miss the entire town of Clayton if you blinked while passing through. Ferriday, Vidalia, and Natchez have bigger populations, therefore more crime....(makes since eh?) Clayton is the cesspool of crack, cocaine and meth. Just take about five minutes and look around...looks like the lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. Do you think those citizens work? hell no, they sit around and intoxicate their bodies with all sorts of goodies. So no, I will not keep my comments to myself when I have to dodge crackheads and welfare broodlings walking in the middle of the road on my way to Monroe.

ghost, you disgust me,its people like you who don't have a pot to ,,,, in and a window to toss it out of and then always tries to look down on other peoples. What God has given to you can be taken away in the blink of an eye.I live in CLAYTON, I work and raise my kids .There are many other people here that also work. So don't demean a town or community just because you think you sit on a high horse.Maybe you should try to pray for those less fortunate in stead of looking down your prissy nose at them.

I cant believe that someone who is going to or lives in Monroe has the gall to talk about other places...that place is a BIG OL' cesspool!!

I agree he shouldn't be slamming Clayton gimmeabreak, but I lived in Monroe back in '97. Unless it has gotten that bad in the last decade, I didn't think it was that bad. No different than Natchez or other surrounding towns.
