Drug trafficker sentenced
Published Friday, June 27, 2008
NATCHEZ — The last member of a Vicksburg based drug ring was sentenced in federal court on Thursday afternoon.
John Dillard, 60, will serve the next 10 years with the United States Bureau of Prisons.
Dillard’s attorney Bob Anderson said his client’s two five-year terms will run concurrently with one 10 year term.
In early March, Dillard was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to traffic crack cocaine and two counts of selling the drug.
Anderson said Dillard was the only person arrested in the case who pleaded not guilty.
“I tried the case as vigorously as I could,” he said.
During his allocution Dillard said he felt insufficient evidence was brought against him and indicated intent to appeal his case.
U.S. District Judge David Bramlett reminded the court that federal sentences have no possibility for parole.
The initial bust of the drug ring in, June 2007, ultimately led to the arrest and sentencing of eight people in the Vicksburg area.
Michael Tyler, said to be the ringleader, received a sentence greater than 20 years.

Maybe this will shed some light on other people out there doing the same thing. He got a long sentence compared to what most people end up with.

Nice retirement plan. They could have put the radio shackle on him and made him stay home for 10 years, but then so many people would have lost work.

OK, now to the real questions...
Why did this 4 year investigation allow over 384 kilos of cocaine to flood the streets of Vicksburg?
How many 1st time crack/coke users fell victim of this massive cocaine poisioning allowed by the DEA and other agencies?

According to the Dept. Of Justice they were able to buy back small amounts (less than a pound) and when the bust happened they got almost 4 kilos, ok what happened to the other 380 kilos?
