Wilkinson Co. must look to future

Published Friday, June 27, 2008

The stars have stopped spinning, the chasm has closed and the time machine is back in its rightful box.

Wilkinson County is no longer caught in the middle of an ugly time warp.

Granted, the previous 10 months are lost forever, but at least the election that started in August is finally over.

Voters who cast their first ballots in August now have one elected official who can begin work and two who will move on to face candidates in the general election.

And, by all accounts, the second Democratic primary was fair. The winners are the rightful winners, and it’s now time to leave the time warp in the past and look only to the future.

Those elected to serve — now and after the July 22 election — need to work to unify a county marred by an unjust election and racial cries. They must be above board in everything they do in order to gain the trust of the residents who didn’t vote for them.

And the county as a whole needs to pull together and focus on what is to come, not what has occurred.

Such a long election period with so many scandals will surely be a memory for many for years, but letting the past dictate the future will get us nowhere.

Congratulations to the election’s winners. We hope the time warp sucked all the troubles away with it.

Remember that there is a God who sets high and looks low. You don't have to cheat to win. Winners never cheat and cheaters never win. Remember That...

Those federal and state people were there when I voted too. What did they do? They didn't check ID's. Someone can walk in and vote in the morning, go home, change clothes, and come back later and vote as someone else. The voter roles are so inaccurate here. I do agree that voting was done fair in this last election, unless someone did as I said above. Absentee ballots were down 75% from last election, so that tells you right there that there was fraud involved. Regardless, its time to move on. The more this is in the paper, the more negeative press for the county.

"Be gracious like Mr. Allen, accept defeat and move on."

I wouldn't call it being gracious. He's moving on to the findings that were sent to the Mississippi Supreme Court by a Judge that avers without hesitation the wrongdoing of Mr. Allen. He has a lot more serious things to worry about than being defeated in a two-bit election. This finding by this judge also proved that there was nothing wrong with contesting the first election.

centrevillresident - you are correct with two thing, (1)this election was fair a & the august 07 election was to. absentee voting was down for TWO reasons, so many people was AFFRAID TO VOTE because they thought it was wrong or they didn't want anyone to see whom they were voting for. But, as you well know, from the news media and papers in mississippi & louisiana printing that jackson & hollins were winners & the election was CERTIFIED---- smith & stewart still contesting the election.(2) wilkinson county do need to move on, HOW CAN THE PEOPLE OF WILKINSON COUNTY DO SO. STEWART & SMITH WANTS IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD.

swapmeet- lovelyday, only made a nice comment towards the elections,NOTHING NEGATIVE that he was not contesting as stewart& smith, THEY LOST, THEY LOST OUT. how can you say what the judge findings was, only one side put on evidence and the judge called it quits.THEREFORE NOTHING AT ALL WAS PROVEN.

JUT A THOUGHT! THAT MAKE YOU GO AAAAAAAHHHHHHH - WHY WANT STEWART TRY FOR THE JOB OF CHIEF OF POLICE!
