Wednesday shooting wounds two

Published Thursday, July 3, 2008

NATCHEZ — As Iris Green left a friend’s house on Beaumont Street Wednesday she witnessed a shooting — a shooting that became too personal.

Green, who was standing on top of a hill, saw two men running around a corner of Beaumont Street and Woodlawn Avenue with one shooting at the other.

“Some of the bullets came up Beaumont and one hit me,” she said.

Green did not even realize she had been hit until she saw the blood, she said.

“When I first was hit, I didn’t even know I was hit,” she said. “I just felt like a burning sensation and then it started stinging.”

The bullet went into Green’s side and came out of her back. She was treated and released from Natchez Regional Hospital. She said that she was very surprised and shocked, but that she felt lucky not to have sustained any major injuries.

“God was with me,” she said.

Green was taken to the hospital by her sister, Cynthia Green.

About the same time Lorenzo Green, 24, 111 Red Bud Lane, was brought to Natchez Regional Hospital but was later transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he is in stable condition.

Lorenzo Green had been hit twice in the upper body according to Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins.

The police suspected Ricardo Matthews, 19, 14 Prentiss St., in the shooting, and within an hour he had turned himself in, Mullins said.

Matthews and Lorenzo Green knew each other, Mullins said.

“This has been an ongoing dispute for several weeks,” he said.

Matthews has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and no bond has been set. He will be arraigned today, Mullins said.

The weapon has not been recovered.

Still says he is in stable condition.....
There is nothing that could be that bad to shoot someone and spend the rest of your life in prison...
This young mans life at 19 has just began and that fast it is over...

Dispute over what??? What could have been that important to spend several years in jail? Or will he even get that? Will it be a slap on his wrist?

Ms Green is truly blessed in this situation. People don't usually survive these random attacks. Innocent bystanders usually pay for these crimes against humanity.

I wonder if Iris Green (the innocent bystander) is related to Lorenzo Green (the victim).

Grammer is very important when writing comments people!!!!

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 9:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Why is that MOM39120?

Posted by natchez500 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 9:42 a.m. (Suggest removal)

sometimes typing is hard when you are in a hurry everyone is not perfect even the ND making mistakes with type anyway we need all police and sheriff cars out in force everyday to keep crime down and the public knows that especially when it hits close to home i want my tax dollars to pay for crime protection and prevention but also i want to see that cop when i call for help you do too RAISE MY TAXES

Posted by momoftwo23 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 9:43 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I pray for both of the victims in this tragedy that got shot. Hopefully, they will both be ok. MOM39120, I dont think grammer is that important when people are leaving their condolences and prayers to the family and friends. Is that the best thing that you can think of to say when something like this has happened?

Posted by momoftwo23 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 9:45 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I totally agree with natchez500. I want to see that cop when I call for help, also.

Posted by jack (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 10:03 a.m. (Suggest removal)

same here natchez500 and momoftwo23 even in vidalia with our crime so low i want to see that cop or sheriff

Grammer is not all that important when leaving comments. On an article a few weeks ago (maybe longer), I had someone disagree with me about something and the way that person tried to downgrade me was picking out all that was wrong with my "writing skills." His conclusion was that I was ignorant because my grammer was not correct, therefore making the points I had made were ignorant also.
These commments are like a casual conversation; we do not have to have perfect grammer. There are times that it is hard to read a comment because punctuation is left out, but in that case just read it slow. I am not a professional writer and will never claim to be one, so if I make a mistake, please bare with me.

How are these kids getting guns? That's what we've got to stop!!

Two options - 1) from their parents or family 2) off the street

This kid was 19 so that makes him a responsible adult.

It's sad these knuckleheads let their emotions run wild and cannot/do not have the discipline to stay out of trouble like this. There is only one thing we can do and that is lock em up for a long time and then they will have a chance to settle down and think things through. I've seen a 17 year old let out on $900 bail on his third offense of drive by shooting, and he also had a conviction of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Our judges have got to start putting hard time on these street punks and start with severe punishment on the first offense of armed violent crime.

I think it's pretty easy to buy an illegal weapon on the street.

Good one dovechase...LOL

i haven't been on here in a long time, but this article stirs me when the judges realize the citizens need help police and sheriff depts cannot do it all this is for miss and la judges HELP US PLEASE SEND THESE YOUNG CROOKS TO JAIL

Posted by Swapmeet (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 11:44 a.m. (Suggest removal)

LOL. Dovechase. Someone comes on here to complain about "grammer" when they can't even spell it. That is "to" funny. (I mean "too") :)

Last night someone said that the man had died. I wonder why someone would say that if it wasn't true. Some of his family and friends could have read that and would have been devestated.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 1:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I know the cops have to get so discouraged, when they pick them up and Judges let them out...I would think there would be a point when the cops would say what is the use...These slap on the wrist judges (Lillian Sanders mainly)
needs to go!!

Posted by asandbb22 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 1:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

(fire39212)First of all her name is Lillie Sanders, and she is not even in term in Natchez right now. So place your blame elsewhere.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 1:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)

She surely didn't slap them on there wrist for the most part did she?? Oh and wasn't she the one who got into trouble for doing away with records for drug dealers????

Posted by asandbb22 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 1:55 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I dont know, how about you check? But, then again your facts are NEVER right. Just like with the salaries. I would REALLY like to know who you are so that I could properly introduce myself face to face.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)

A face to face meeting surely isn't out of the question asandbb....email me when and where will surely be there....

Oh let me see if i would have said Lillie was the best judge oh my she just gave all those criminals a second, third, even fourth chance and low and behold she even did away with some records for them.....How sweet of her..

Make sure to send that email...

Sanders had been before the Supreme Court once before. In March 1998 she was publicly reprimanded for improperly suspending the sentences of two prisoners, one of whom was a former client. After that reprimand, she left the court through a back door

A judge has been reprimanded for jailing a circuit clerk over a dispute and wrongly expunging drug convictions from records.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:20 p.m. (Suggest removal)

A Natchez man has told an Adams County judge that he's innocent of a charge of murder in the March fatal shooting of his neighbor.

Yesterday (Tuesday) 59-year-old Anthony Eugene Dawson pleaded innocent in Adams County Circuit Court.

Circuit Judge Lillie Sanders allowed Dawson to remain free on $200,000 bond.

Posted by asandbb22 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

How about you email me, and I will definately show up. And again your facts are WRONG!!! Check your facts again and check her records, she was brought before the Supreme Court because she placed her circuit clerk in jail because after she asked him to post an order, he turned his back and told her that he wasnt doing a thing she said. The Supreme Court ruled that she was justified for doing what she did and made the clerk pay the court cost for the hearing. So how about you check that.

Posted by asandbb22 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Again you are wrong, she didn't even work on Tuesday. I am amazed at how WRONG you can be. Geesh!!!

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:37 p.m. (Suggest removal)

you were the one who wanted the face to face meeting....Why back down now??

Yea sure i am....I know all the papers were wrong huh?? She also didn't play the race card either did she???

Posted by asandbb22 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:49 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm not backing down, I asked you for your name first. And YEAH, the ND is wrong since I know where you got your suppose information. And yeah, the race card was played in the clerk case because thats the reason he didn't post the order. And unlike you I have the Mississippi Supreme Court to back me up on that. And since you like researching, research that.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 2:56 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Poor ND is always always telling a lie on her...You better look again though it wasn't only in the ND..Only one was in the ND......Looks to me like you are backing down..I checked my email and nothing!!!!

Lillie Sanders AKA Wrist Slapper...

Why don't you tell us what she got in return for expunging drug convictions from records.

you people are funny...I get a kick out of reading your comments. They usually end up having nothing to do with the article & can be quite petty. Thanks for the daily amusement!

MayJay, you must be looking for a scrap in a Natchez parking lot. If you are, look out - fire39212 might bring her grandchild for backup!

fire39212 & asandbb22
This hardly worth wanting to meet & settle things. We don't need any more violence than we already have.

MayJay I agree it is amusing because in a few day everyone will be agreeing. Another thing is having usernames you don't know if you are taking to your best friend or who.

Just a bunch of nuts..rofl

Posted by southern_bell (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 3:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I think everybody should take a chill pill and get their facts straight before attacking each other!!!!!!!!!
Everyone is wanting to meet each other face to face, that is so childish. All of you need to grow up!!!!
I agree with " overthehill60 " what are you going to do if you meet face to face and its your neighbor or your boss. Now wouldn't that be a slap in the face?

Posted by asandbb22 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 3:51 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I said nothing about fighting, I just want an identity to know who this person is running their mouth behind a screen name. I know they wouldnt dare go to Judge Sanders' office and voice these opinions. I feel that fire39212 is not even qualified to write half the trash he has "research." I checked my email too, DONT YOU BACK DOWN!! I have no plans of meeting him, unless he comes to her office. I will be waiting...

Posted by southern_bell (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 4:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)

asandbb22 .....I didn't say you were going to fight. If someone who don't know me says," Let's meet face to face " I'm going to get the impression they want to fight.
And also a Judge goes by the book. Just like Doctors do. I know Lillie Sanders from my ex-husband's court days and she was sometimes a SLAPPER as ya'll call her. But she only done what the books said. I don't think cops, judges, lawyers, or even Presidents go by how they feel it should be done. Everything in life has a BOOK you go by. Don't make sense but it's true. But that is just my opinion.

Posted by jack (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 4:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)

must be the day to get down on lillie i mean judge sanders at least you are off the sheriff office and police dept now lets put the blame on cliff cox gfor not catching every drug pusher in town only perfect people ere but who wants to go in a house with cliff at night and knowing the others all have guns

Posted by thick1982 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 5:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Sometimes the comments are better than the article.
I agree with MayJay..."you people are funny...I get a kick out of reading your comments. They usually end up having nothing to do with the article & can be quite petty."

It amaze me how people get on the website and degrade the victim/criminal. People are no better then them. The only difference is you are fighting with words instead of hands or guns.

Posted by southern_bell (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 5:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

thick1982......I agree with you 100%. Why can't people see we have enough hate in the real world now on computers too..It's sad people can't even voice opinions without pissing someone off...I think if a post has nothing to do with the story the ND should remove it. That would stop a lot of childish behaviour.

Posted by cooper3k1 (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 5:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

They shouldn't remove any comments because I think it is amusing. Sometimes petty things that are fun, are what take away the tension from the larger things.

Dovechase, that was cute about the "grammar." I'm glad I was admitting how bad my grammar is since I spelled it wrong...LOL

Posted by Whisper (anonymous) on July 3, 2008 at 11:50 p.m. (Suggest removal)

MOM39120,,,,, since you made it a point for what ever reason to complain about the "grammer" in the postings. I feel that maybe you should learn how to spell. The correct spelling is "grammar". Now don't you feel silly.
