Former police officer arrested
Published Friday, July 11, 2008
NATCHEZ — A former Natchez police officer has been arrested on felony charges of embezzlement.
Eric Kaho, 30, 138 Washington Circle, allegedly embezzled more than $500 from the Metro Narcotics unit to which he was assigned.
Kaho was recently indicted by an Adams County grand jury. He turned himself in at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Thursday.
Kaho resigned from the Natchez Police Department in January.
“He worked here for about seven years before this happened,” Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said. “We were shocked and saddened. He had done some excellent police work during his career.”
Mullins said investigations into missing money began in 2007, while Kaho was taking a leave from work due to a knee injury.
“In a routine check of money he was entrusted with, some of it was discovered missing,” Mullins said. “We notified the Attorney General’s office for an outside investigation.”
Since the officer was well known by local authorities, Mullins wanted an outside group to handle the case, he said.
The pool of money Kaho allegedly embezzled from included seized drug money and a fund Metro Narcotics used to purchase drugs from suspected drug dealers. The funds are audited often, Mullins said.
Just before Kaho was scheduled to return to work at NPD in October, he reportedly accidentally shot himself in the chest at his apartment while cleaning his gun. The bullet grazed his heart and he spent more than a month in the hospital recovering.
Kaho was released shortly after his arrest Thursday on a promise to appear in court.
Kaho joins a list of NPD officers arrested that includes Willie B. Jones in 1997, who was charged with felony obstruction of justice for reportedly paying a fellow officer not to pursue a drug charge against a friend, and Keith Fiola who was charged with bribery.

It seems that this person is in need of much psycological help and support. Allegedly shooting himself while being on leave from his job should have suggested his need for counselling.

Sorry Mr. Kaho. But, It's about time that the police dept, county jail, and metro narcotic start arresting officers and fellow officers for stealing drug money that has been seized, and he's not the only one that stealing because they seized alot of drugs and money off of the street but the public just don't know about.

Like I said yesterday, document it for later court use, then use it to give pay raises to: officers, fire dept. personnel, EMT personnel, etc, etc.

$500.00 just ain't that big of a deal, especially ESPECIALLY drug money. Fired yes, but jail time? They must want him to get killed if they gonna sentence him to the clink.

SHOT HIMSELF IN THE CHEST WHILE CLEANING HIS GUN? Give me a break! What kind of police officer is so incompentent that he doesn't know enough gun safety to check his weapon to see if it's loaded before cleaning it?

Some people just can't keep there hands off of stuff that don't belong to them. That money they get from the streets is probably more tempting to each of them that work around that stuff. He just decided to end it with him before he got any more deep into it. Wonder how many more are in the same situation he is but don't care. They probably have the mentality that if no one knows then they will not find out neither.

My prayers are for his little ones in this time of facing reality. Eric I've known for sometime now, and I've seen him do his job well, but now all things must be revealed.
Such a sad situation. For whatever reason--he has found out,or will find out soon, that justice must prevail. Recovering from a gun shot wound so close to the heart will take a while. Maybe that was taken into consideration when they released him. It is a good thing when he was informed of the charges, he turned himself in. Now to his dad and family I know it is hard, and that's like with any mans son--It hurt--that's all--It hurt. I believe that's how his dad feel right about now.

I knew that something did not smell good from the beginning. Why and how could you even start to clean a gun that has even ONE ROUND IN IT.
Either he or his woman shot him.

Harvest1, I know how you feel. I know Eric. He is my classmate. I've known him all through school. He is a nice and respectful guy, but I never thought that he would do anything like this. I guess you never know. His girlfriend is very nice as well, and I don't think she would shoot him. Who knows what really happened in that situation? We sure don't, but what's done is done. What goes on in the dark will come to the light sooner or later. I wouldn't be surprised if there will be more involved. I guess we never know. I'm shocked and saddened that this happened, because I know Eric. I hate what he had done. All I can do is pray for Grace and Mercy for him. That's what we all should be doing. Since he did it, he should pay.....although I hated to say that.

That's true "draw" and that's what so sad about it. I know you can't put it all in place because I am not law enforcement, but it will come out. I know all of the guys at "metro" and they stand for right. At some time the truth will come out, so I can't take it upon myself to blame any of the others not knowing the truth. I'll just wait and see. You just can't fault the whole unit because one did wrong. Yes he should pay, and I think he know that now, after all he has been through.

After 7 years of service, and steal $500???
What chump change for such a risk!! I cannot but think that that is just the tip of the iceberg and that this guy has been doing this for awhile, taking cash before documented, etc.
Send him to parchman, no mercy for this guy from me. We need clean cops and must come down hard on anyone betraying our trust like this. I"m thinking he knew what was coming and attempted suicide. Too bad he missed and now we have to go through all the motions and expense of trial and imprisonment. I'm sure God will forgive him if asked, but I do not.

Missm, you would be suprised at how many accidental dicharges of firearms happen with police officers. My stepfather was a cop in a large metropolitan city and he told me of many times guns going off. He once told me about a patrole officer unloading his 12 gauge shotgun after a shift in a parking garage and firing not only once but twice!

$500 dollars? Heck, with as little money as these cops are paid its only a little of what "raise" he deserves. Too bad he went about it the wrong way. He shouldn't have stolen it, but how much of the real story do we know? How long ago was this money stolen? Can we really tie him stealing money to him discharing his firearm while cleaning it? Conspiracy theorists, I love em!!!!

I hope that whoever if over the Evidence Department of the NPD is keeping a tight inventory of everything that is brought in and can account for everything logged in there. I wonder if the $500 went towards gambling on the boat?

How ironic that we have such a hypocrite posting on this"blog". This morning, this person was throwing out hurtful, unnecessary comments about the officer in this story that in no way were ever even referenced in the story. But below you will see that he/she is moaning about other people doing the same thing. Except that the other people that were posting were posting about something actually written in the story.

Natchez Democrat: Please read the above statement from
the victim's sister. Can't you see the stress and anxiety it causes people because of statements made on this blog? Don't you think it is time to shut the blog down? It is hurting people. People don't use it correctly and it isn't working. There is no law that says that a newspaper has to have a blog. Freedom of speech is one thing but when the statements are hurtful and really aren't necessary don't you think it's time to shut this internet blog down? Natchez is such a small town and I think this blog does alot of damage.
What makes you think that this person had a gambling problem? And if it wasn't on the ND comment section it would be talked about in person so what is the difference?
Also, I understand that the young lady is upset and rightfully so. But why waste time on the internet reading meaningless postings when your brother is in critical condition?

I feel so sorry for the family of Eric, I know what it is like to have family members names drug through the mud by the Natchez Democrat. Keith and Willie B. lets see this happened over 10yrs ago. Both had their records expunged, lets see 1+1 doesn't = 2 in this case.
To Eric's Family: Be Strong, LEAVE NATCHEZ, since leaving there our lives have gotten so much better and as a family we have gotten closer, I will pray for Eric and that justice be rightly served in your case.

Positive or negative comments either way we must remember it is out taxes that pay these guys. So that's stealing from the tax payers.
Personally I thing it is wrong even if it had been a penny. If you are not being paid enough do some after hour jobs even it means cutting grass or digging ditches. DON'T STEAL! It's sinful & not worth going to jail for.
I agree it's the family that always has to pay for their loved ones bad doings. They are the ones we should be praying for.

freedom of speech, thats what we have, and as long as i have that right i will speak the truth no matter who it hurts. people r heartless thats true, but as long as people let them know it hurt, they will keep it up. yes we all have family thats not so good, but doesn't mean that family is like them. now with that said,,, DO I TRUST THE LAW.... NO..... the people that WORKS... for the law think THEY R ABOVE THE LAW.... I SAY THE LAW HERE NEED TO BE CHECKED OUT BY THE FBI. CAUSE MOST WHO WORK FOR THE LAW DON'T TRULLY KNOW WHAT THEY R DOING OR HOW TO DO THERE JOBS,and they get these titles for their jobs they don't know how to do. thats what makes me mad. if this hurts peoples feelings then i can't help them, when it comes to speaking the truth, we all have that right.

I think it depends on how over bedded the prison is as to where the policeman will be. IF he has to be with the criminals then he should have thought about that. After all he is a criminal! Did he expect the red carpet rolled out for him?

in this country we are innocent until proven guilty.
i will have you to know that one of the people you named is a man of integrity and honor, hardwork and he's firm but fair. i will assure you he is innocent and that will be proven in court.
so be sure to be there. when he is proven innocent, i expect a retraction in the same manner as you named him.

There is a former bad police officer that has written a book about bad cops and how to detect them. The book is called COP OUT, by Robert Davis, and he travels the country and outs all bad cops and their secret tactics.
He tells all in the book, like how to detect a bad cop, what to do or say if arrested, should you take a lie detector tests, how to beat citations, and many other secrets of cops.
Basically, he reveals all the secrets and procedures of bad cops.
