NRMC hospital study complete
Published Thursday, July 31, 2008
NATCHEZ — The study that will reveal if Natchez Regional Medical Center should be sold, leased or retained by the county has been completed.
On Wednesday, the study, in a bound volume, arrived at the hospital.
And for now the results are being kept a secret.
Regional’s CEO Scott Phillips said after receiving and examining the document he provided a copy to the office of the President of the Adams County Board of Supervisors.
Phillips said since the supervisors had officially requested the study, the information was essentially theirs to release.
On Wednesday evening board President Henry Watts said he had not looked at his copy of the study but would wait until the board’s next meeting on Aug. 4, to publicly discuss the results of the study.
“The full board will be informed as a group,” he said. “And I’m sure we’ll all have questions.”
Watts said the board will meet with Phillips and the Horne Group’s Barry Plunkett, who conducted the study, on Monday for a full report.
On Wednesday, Watts said he expects the board to follow the recommendations made in the study.
But what that recommendation will be won’t be known until Monday.
Plunkett also would not reveal the findings of the study but said the process went smoothly.
“It was an extremely cooperative effort,” he said of the hospital staff.

"On Wednesday, Watts said he expects the board to follow the recommendations made in the study."
On Thursday, Morpheus says he expects the board to do what is best for the people of Adams County.
This includes local patients who pay for medical care, local professionals who provide it, and local citizens who currently own NRMC and have ELECTED the board to make such decisions on our behalf.
I will withhold further comment until the recommendations of the study are made public, however I will remind everyone that we have a long history of paying good money for bad advice regarding this hospital. This is very much a political decision involving public funds (lots), so pay close attention and make your supervisor aware of your opinion. This is our first and last opportunity to have any say in the future of Healthcare in this area!

I bet a dollar to a dime that the best solution will be to lease it out, but the county will decide to sale it....any takers?

Looking forward to publication of recommendations.
Agreements should be signed by administration and members of both boards that there shall be no personal profit in the changes to be made.
Further, that there be no shift of liabilities from Doctor's Pavillion investors to taxpayers. This complex proposal currently in play is not what is best for the people of Adams County.
Dr. Stubbs should be dismissed rather than put in an underwritten position. This is wrong and all know it.

Fully agree with you Morpheus. These individuals need to remember that they ARE accountable to the citizens that elected them.

Sell it!!! The county should run away from that facility as fast as possible. A private group would operate that hospital much more efficiently.. Such as Lady of the Lake. BOS should approach Lady of the Lake with a sweet deal and unload that moneydrain. Lady of the Lake owns many hospitals around this area (Baton Rouge for instance) and does a good job.
I agree sayitloud - Quorem should be held accountable for driving the hospital into the dirt, they have been sued for the same by other hospitals. I seem to remember a hospital in Clarksdale that did that?
I know some administrators of various corporations that have provided the hospital with service, such as the rehab unit, and they were never paid, yet brought in lots of money for the hospital.

Red, I guess leasing would be ok, but then there would be less tax revenues?
I say sell it, then the city/county can collect taxes on it

Why did it cost 3 million dollars to hire folks to tell us NRMC was in bad shape??????
That,s really all they have said. Where do the monies go for such? It,s never really broken down or explained. They whoever they are just take it and go....oh well another piece of the pie for lawyers and such. Most anyone working in the offices could have told them what they needed to know, and not charged them anything, They could have told people who would be interested in buying, leasing,or whatever for nothing. Then let the taxpayers and the county decide togather without spending millions..media hype..they want your money period...legalized theft most of it...they tell you a bunch of who shot john but while the band plays WE always have to pay the fiddlers...And we hire others to conduct a study to tell us most of what we already know. I could have told the same thing what they have said for $1,000, it wouldn,t have been much different than would i,ve read and would have been millions cheaper...plus they already have such worked out... the monies are just taken by the takers and hot smoke blown our way...as usual....too many studies, committes, too many hands in the till.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH SAYITLOUDER. QUORAM WAS IN CHARGE. APPARENTLY THEY MISAPPROPIATED FUNDS AND MISMANGED. SURELY ADAMS COUNTY COULD SUE THEM. INSTEAD OF BANKRUPTCY, SELLING, LEASING THE HOSPITAL, I THINK QUORAM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
