VIDALIA — A Tuesday night traffic violation landed two Concordia Parish teens in jail for burglary.
Austin David Burr, 17, 105 Lynwood Drive, Ferriday, and Michael Curtis Cupstid, 17, 616 Patsy Brown Road, Monterey, were arrested after Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Denis Mulvihill stopped them initially for improper lane use, CPSO Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said.
After the stop was made, Mulvihill reportedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed an open alcohol container inside the vehicle.
The suspects consented to a search by CPSO Deputy Dennis Cowan, and later reportedly admitted to burglarizing five vehicles in Monterey as well to other burglaries in Ferriday, Adams County and Baton Rouge, Stevens said.
The suspects also reportedly admitted using a credit card from one of the burglaries, Stevens said.
The teens face charges of five counts of vehicle burglary, possession of marijuana, open container violation and unauthorized use of an access card. Burr also faces a charge of improper lane use, and Cupstid has a bench warrant for the Vidalia Police for failure to appear in traffic court.
Both of the suspects will face charges in other areas when warrants are filed against them, Stevens said.
Bond for both was set at $77,500, but no bond has been set for the unauthorized use of an access card charge, which was added Thursday.
