PCS tells Entergy to lower fuel adjustment
Published Wednesday, August 6, 2008
JACKSON (AP) — The Mississippi Public Service Commission has ordered Entergy Mississippi to lower its fuel-cost adjustment for the September billing cycle.
The commission directed the utility to come up with a new, lower adjustment due to a decrease in natural gas prices falling in recent days.
Entergy's fuel-cost adjustment led to a 28 percent increase in an average customer's power bill from July through September because of high prices.
Now natural gas prices have dropped by more than 10 percent since the increase took effect.
Entergy has said a dramatic spike in natural gas prices led to the fuel-cost hike.
The company has five working days from the order being issued to recalculate its fuel-cost adjustment.

Thats good news. The utilities need to be held accountable after they told us for years how abundant and economical natural gas was.

I know how you feel naturegirl. It's a crying shame when reading a utility bill is a unpleasant as a prostate exam.

Yeah naturegirl, ours had to be about 40% as well and I would like to see that type of decrease.

the price increase is crazy, yes the cost of living is steadily rising, and passing the cost on to customers is nothing new. But the disparity between between where profits are being made and cost are being incurred is becoming very clear.
Big oil companies are making larger than ever profits. I am not against oil companies, they provide us with a product that is in demand, more so than ever, however if the economy is slumping so much then just look to see who is profiting from it.
The value American dollar has fallen over the past 4 years, minimum wage has increased, energy cost have risen so much that fuel surcharges are being added to everything. Food cost have grown 10 - 25 percent nationally. ultimately the small guy, the individual, is picking up the ticket.
You can shear a sheep many times but skin it only once. . . . .
