Ridgecrest — On Sunday evening the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing that resulted in the death of one man.
Alex Promise Jr., 27, of Ferriday, died after he was stabbed once in the chest with a kitchen knife.
Crystal M. Gordon, 19, 114 Brook St., Ferriday, was arrested Sunday on charges of second-degree murder.
The two were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship.
Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell said the incident occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
In a statement released Monday morning, CPSO officials said the stabbing occurred in a vehicle parked near 100 Woodmount Drive, in Ridgecrest.
“(The incident) appears to be a girlfriend-boyfriend deal,” Maxwell said.

Levens Addition is no where near Ridgecrest. Levens is off Hwy 84 West, between Ferriday and Jonesville, and Ridgecrest is between Ferriday and Vidalia.

I don't think it was Levens Addition. I think it was Rabb Addition where ever that is.

Domestic abuse or not...still doesn't give you the right to take a life. One simple word.
LEAVE.

It was in Levee Heights. I knew both parties in this case. The victim was a very sweet and respectful young man. He and his family used to live in the neighborhood that I live in. I used to braid his hair. His grandmother still lives around the circle from me. His father is well know here in Ferriday as well. He ran for mayor once or twice. The girl that was arrested, I knew when she was born. Her entire family and I grew up in Levee Heights. The lady has lost her mother in a car wreck when she was a baby in other words she never knew her mother. Her father died about 1 to 2 .years ago. It is a sad situation because this young lady has a little boy. Someone said that she has another child too. I haven't been able to confirm it yet. I can't imagine him doing or saying anything that would cause her to stab him. I have never seen a violent side of him. On the other hand she do have a reputation behind her but not this serious.

I agree Ozette.
Unless it was total immediate self defense, she should have just left him.
How you can you live with yourself after you take a life?

HERE WE GO AGAIN, MY THOUGHTS & PRAYERS GO OUT TO ALL INVOLVED, ESPECIALLY, THE SWEET CHILDREN, WHO GETS LOST, IN THESE CASES. I PRAY A FAMILYMEMBER WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF HIM OR THEM! WHATEVER THE CASE SCENARIO, MY HEART BREAKS TO THOSE WHO DO NOT LEAVE, ALWAYS SO TRAGIC AND SAD ENDING!! HOW MANY MORE SENSELESS, TRAGIC DEATHS DOES IT TAKE? MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, IF THERE ARE TOUGHER LAWS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, THE PERPORTRATORS WOULD GET THE MESSAGE!!! I AM W/ OZETTE, JUST LEAVE, NOW, YOU DO NOT GET THE CHOICE TO LEAVE, OR ANYTHING ELSE!!!! YOU DO NOT GET TO SEE YOUR KIDS, OR EVEN KNOW IF THEY ARE TRULY ALRIGHT. TRUST ME, IT NEVER EVER HELPS WHEN YOU TURN TO VIOLENCE, IT ONLY MAKES EVERYTHING WORSE, MOTHERS WHO ARE IN A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE(AND FATHERS) ROMANCE, RELATIONSHIP, OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE, LEAVE,IF YOU CAN. I WAS HELD AGAINST MY WILL ONE TIME, FROM AN ABUSIVE HUSBAND, THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT ME FROM RUNNING RIGHT OUT THE DOOR WAS, THE THREATS AGAINST MY FAMILY!! ONCE THE LAW GOT US OUT AND TO A SAFE PLACE, HE FOLLOWED MY MOMA AROUND TOWN TILL HE RAN HER & HER FRIEND OFF THE ROAD TO FIND OUT WHERE I WAS, CAUSE IF I WAS NOT GONNA BE HIS WIFE, HE SAID, NOBODY ELSE WOULD EITHER!! LET ME TELL YOU, I RAN FROM STATE TO STATE W/ MY POOR,SCARED,AND SCARRED FOR LIFE KIDS, STILL WE DID NOT KNOW HOW HE KEPT FINDING US, SO WE RETURNED HOME TO NATCHEZ, AFTER ALL THAT, & MY BROTHERS & UNCLES PUT THE FEAR OF GOD IN THIS COWARD,HE WENT TO JAIL OVER HALF A DOZEN TIMES, ONLY TO BE FINED, HE FINALLY LEFT US ALONE!!!! I DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, I AM JUST GLAD I NEVER ACTED ON IMPULSE, LORD ONLY KNOWS WHERE I WOULD BE AT TODAY, PROBABLY NOT FREE, TO ENJOY MY KIDS, OR GRANDKIDS, OR MY WONDERFUL HUSBAND!!!!! JUST LEAVE!!

Again, we are all so hasty to judge and condemn. Remember this one important fact: YOU never know what goes on behind closed doors. Let the system do its job. Regardless of how it turns out in the end. That's why we have it. We are so quick to condemn when we really know nothing of the situation. I am not saying it is okay to take a life, but perhaps it was self defense?? Or a threat to her children... give this person the benefit of a doubt how 'bout it?
Posted by daris (anonymous) on August 11, 2008 at 9:26 a.m. (Suggest removal)
I totally agree with thetruthhursts. We don't know what went on behind close doors. I also agree that no one should take another person life, but we don't know how long he was abusing her if that was the case. We never know what we would do if our back is against the wall. Please keep in mind that you have two families that is feeling this pain kids involved ect. so why don't we wait and see what's the outcome is before we bad mouth this young lady. I was a victim of abuse but I prayed and was glad to get out without him killing me or messing me up for life, but sometimes the situation is different, maybe that was her only way out, again not saying that she did the right thing.

Sometimes it takes a lot of courage and at least a little money to leave . But leaving is the only option a person has in a situation like this . Men that abuse their wives usually abuse their children too . These men like to be in control of their families because they are not in control any where else in their lives . They are very insecure and usually have violent tempers . Sometimes the public never even sees the volatile side of that person . They can seem absolutely charming to the outside world . They can beg the wifes forgiveness with flowers ,love poems, breakfast in bed, etc. and be so convincing that the wife will start wondering if the whole ordeal was her fault . Her self esteem can get so low she actully believes that she deserves that kind of treatment . He plays mind games with her . He tells her she is stupid every day of the life she has with him . He is possessive . He is jealous of every move she makes without him . He is even jealous of the children and any member of her own family . She thinks she can't do any better and sometimes stays too long . She thinks she doesn't have an option . Then it's too late. Sometimes somebody dies .

I agree "southernbelle". As a victim myself, I know how difficult it is to gather up your strength and feel worthy enough to leave... I feared for my life. He always told me he would put me 6 foot under if I did.... I had to get to the point of not even caring if he did kill me, I was leaving! One way or the other I was getting out of there, even if it meant in a body bag. It was not easy by any means, it was the hardest thing I have ever done.... from speeding in the pouring rain to try and keep him from running my kids and I off the road, to sneaking around my house with a pistol in hand and putting it to my head loaded.... I tried to get the police involved and they said I couldnt do anything until he actually did something and I had evidence.... I told them I guess it would take the death of my kids and myself and then they could pick him up..... I do not know these people, so I do not know the situation.... at all... As most of us do not. Just because you have never been the victim of abuse, in some form, doesnt mean it doesnt exist. This may not even be the case here, but I AM certain there is more to this story than we know.

sad, the only good thing is, two less violent individuals out loose to hurt the innocent
bad thing is the man's side of the story will never be known
unless she has significant injury, she should be charged with murder and get at least 20 years
likely she'll serve maybe 5, get out and kill again

Now that sounds like a pretty harsh judgement.... "get out and kill again"??? Like she is some serial killer or something... I never said she shouldnt do any time even if it was self defense. But the time should fit the crime.... whatever that turns out to be. Hope the Good Lord will watch over the children and the "real truth" will come out.

For those of you who don't know, there is now a new program out there for females who are victims of domestic violence. You no longer have to take matters into your own hands.
If you need help, call your mayor's office and inquire of the program.
They will assist you in getting out and starting over.

but like you say, can't jump to conclusions, I agree with that
All of us here are fairly reasonable I believe, and we all want peace and justice
But it seems that the abuse part is not necessarily coming FROM the males, as the males are the ones going six feet under with these last two stabbing deaths by the females of these dysfunctional relationships
Probably a good idea not to move in together so quickly and try dating and abstinence, ???? A little common sense please

Leaving isn't always easy. People are always saying leave leave, leave. LEaving isn't an easy step to take. The woman might be threatened or like someone else stated, her children. You never know what's going on behind closed doors. No it isn't right for anyone to take another person's life. But what if her life was in jeapardy. Someone said that this guy was a sweet guy and they have been knowing him for years. Well the person they see, and the person that woman saw was a totally different person. He could be sweet to the outside world, but a monster behind close doors. No matter what kind of past this girl had for fights for whatever, it wasn't murder. That woman had to be torn. She was probalby only protected her self. Their have been too many women leaving this world because of an abusive husband. Sometimes, something happens bad before they get the courage to leave. I was in a situation like that myself. Everyone thought he was so sweet, and they looked up to him. He even had a few people thinking that I was the bad person in the relationship. So they were saying I got what I deserved. But his family even knew he was a terrible man. I was a good wife to him. He was controlling. Yes, I wanted to leave, but it wasn't easy. Some people are full of hope and wishing that one day this man stop hitting me. But it just keep getting worse, It never gets better. I got my butt whipped almost everyday, if I just looked like I wanted to speak up for myself, or my children. After constant prayer,God gave me the strength to leave. I packed my kids, I didn't take clothes or anything. I went home to my momma and started over. I know people are saying, just leave, but sometimes it's too late then something tragic happens. My heart goes out to both families, especially the babies. STop saying leave, and start saying STOP!

I fear this is only the start of a new phase in the world... I shiver when my 16 year old daughter tells me things her friends are doing and have been doing since about 12 years of age. (I dont put anything past my own children, but we do SEEM to have an open relationship, plus I am all in her business, so she would really have a hard time, ha) So many of these kids are looking for love, or what they consider love, these days... They make bad choices, they make mistakes. End up in a bad relationship and with children involved . They don't know any different because it's all they know. I believe this is still a failure on parents not doing their jobs.. If these kids had love at home perhaps they wouldnt be out looking for it elsewhere... I understand times have changed... but have they REALLY changed THAT much??? That you have no real value for yourself? no pride? Nothing telling you "hey, this feels soooo wrong"??

I can't believe everyone has turned this into an abuse thread. People just assume that because a woman stabbed a man, the man had to be abusing her. Maybe she just went psycho and stabbed him for no reason. That's the whole point, we don't know. Let the facts come out before you start labeling this man as woman-beater. If it comes out that he was beating her and she stabbed him in self-defense, then, and only then, should we begin discussing whether or not she was justified in stabbing him.

((ozzette)) you said it right!! ******SIMPLE WORD*******
SAYING *****LEAVE***** IS NOT THE SAME HAS BEING ABLE TOO!!
however i do agree it does not give one the right to take a life. sometimes however you have to do what you have to save your own life.. we don't know the whole story.. it could be a clear case of self defense.. as in that was the only thing she could grab close enough to her while she was being beat!! then again she probably waited until he was distracted and stabbed him then.. we will never know. you as you may never know that saying ****leave**** and actually ****leaving**** is to completely different things...

Charliebug
I'm so sorry for you and yours that you had to go through that
I hear it all the time, ladies call the martial arts school looking for help from the fear they have from abusive spouse, we do the best we can to help them build up to face the fear and physical confrontation.
I can only think that such an animal is truly a coward and weak to have to think that happiness is found in manipulation and obsessive control over their woman.
I'm glad your family stepped up and took up for you
Every case is different, you have to know the facts and some history on the people you deal with.

(Posted by thetruthhurts: Oh... okay... didn't know the rules... thanks for setting us all straight...)
I'm not trying to "set you all straight". I'm just pointing out that in a lot of the previous posts the assumption has been made that this man was abusing this woman which caused her to stab him. They could have just been arguing (which all couples have done) and she could have went "postal". I'm not saying that's the case, but it's a distinct possibility. He could have done nothing whatsoever to deserve this and think how his family must feel if they come on here to draw encouragement from condolences and instead are greeted to inuendos that their lost, loved one is an abuser. I just think people should wait until getting the facts before saying things that could cause unnecessary hurt. It's just common courtesy.

It is easy for those of you who have never been a victim of domestic violence to sit at your computer and just say "Leave". Until you have been there, you will never understand the fear that a woman lives with she has been abused. Many of these women have no way to support themselves and their children if they DO leave and so the fear of the unknown becomes about as scary as the fear of what you do know. There are usually threats involved so when it is YOU in that situation, you would almost certainly react differently. So please try to be a little more understanding and compassionate for these women who are stuck in a situation that seems hopeless.

It is always sad whenever someone loses their life. I just pray that he had his business fixed with the Lord. However, my concerns are for the children. What will happen to them. If the young lady has no parents, where will these poor innocent children go. I have to also say that the system is not as tough on murderers and other people who commit violent crimes as they are on people who deal drugs. I had a cousin that got arrested for a sell charge and got 30 years. My friends brother blew a man's head off and got out in 8 years.Wow where's the justice in that.
Posted by ozzette (anonymous) on August 11, 2008 at 1:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)
When I said simply "LEAVE", that's what I meant. I was 13 when my mother had enough of her abusive boyfriend that beat her and molested me. She had no money, but we packed bags and left. Am I saying it was simple? NO. We went to a local church and they took us in and arranged work for her so we could save money to move to Kansas with my grandmother. Yeah, he threatened, he called and followed us around. He even cornered me at the school bus stop and tried to bully me until a parent who just so happened to be bringing her child something that had been forgotten at home saw and ran him off and called the police. It wasn't easy, but it can be done, even with no money. Threats or no threats. So I HAVE been in that position, and I do know how it feels.
