Ferriday High football water boy Chance Johnson, 8, came to work ready to get wet Monday in his galoshes.
Young boy enjoys helping out team
Published Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Ferriday — Monday’s rain put a damper on many things — having to stand at the bus stop and carriage rides around Natchez, the practice schedule for many area high school football teams.
But it didn’t keep Ferriday High’s football team from hitting their rain-soaked practice field.
And, of course, the water boy had to put up with the witness, too.
But this was no problem for Trojan water boy Chance Johnson, 8. He arrived ready to work, in a pair of galoshes.
When asked where he was going in the get-up he answered without hesitation, “It’s wet out here, and I gotta work!”
A part of the team since 2006, Johnson is the son of Walter Johnson, one of the team’s assistant coaches.
Johnson says he enjoys his job mostly because he gets to help out the players.
“And I get to go out of town with them,” he quickly added.

What a good story. I hope this kid grows up learning the discipline and teamwork which football teaches. It will help him to become a well-rounded young man.

How very precious! Boy do we need some older folks with that attitude! Keep up the good work Mr. Chance. You have qualities like faithfulness, dedication, and hard working that will carry you a long way. Thanks to his parents for instilling in him such values. I'm proud of you young man, and I know you have a bright future ahead of you. God bless you. (Thanks for brightening up my day!)

This young man has the attitude that some older men don't have, and it touches my heart deeply. I commend his parents for teaching him the importance or good stewardship. Young man, you get a big hug from me. You will go far in life......Who knows, you may be the future team leader. Reach for the stars. I see a good future for you. I love children.
