Parish murder victim identified

Published Tuesday, August 12, 2008

RIDGECREST — A Ferriday man is dead and his girlfriend is behind bars on charges that she fatally stabbed him Sunday night.

Crystal M. Gordon, 19, 114 Brook St., Ferriday, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after she allegedly stabbed Alex Promise Jr., 27, of Ferriday, once in the chest with a kitchen knife.

The two had reportedly just left their Brook Street residence, and were arguing inside a vehicle at the time of the stabbing, according to a statement from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle the incident allegedly happened in which was reportedly parked near 100 Woodmount St., where Gordon’s grandmother lives.

The sheriff’s office responded to the call at 6:24 p.m.

Gordon later reportedly told CPSO investigators the stabbing was self-defense, and the knife that officials believe was used in the stabbing was reportedly found in the mud behind Gordon’s grandmother’s residence, officials said. No bond was set for Gordon Monday.

Either one of two options. She stabbed him in self-defense, panicked, and threw the knife in the mud behind her grandmother's house, or she stabbed the man unjustifiably, tried to hide the knife behind her grandmother's house, and is now screaming self-defense.

I have a guess as to which it is, but the courts will have to clear that up. The only problem is that she will have to explain what she was doing with a knife in the car.

I would say its because this wasn't the first time she needed self defense, so she was prepared for it.

i agree with woodchuck. i think it was all self defense & she knew what she was up against. but now she has to prove all that.

She can tell whatever story she wants..Who is there to tell the other side? If it was self defense why hide it? She has knife in car wouldn't that be premediated? Where were her children?

How do yall know she tried to hide to knife, if they got the knife obviously she told them where the knife was. If she was trying to hide the knife then it would have probably been somewhere else other than her grandmother's house.

If I was to kill someone and I knew it was self defense, I would keep the murder weapon right by my side.

She is only 19, does she have children?

She could have freaked out after stabbing him and ran up to the house to get help from the grandma, dropping the knife on the way to the backdoor without intentionally trying to hide it. What would be the point of trying to hide the weapon when it would be obvious that he had been stabbed? She probably wasn't even thinking, at that point, just reacting. Why did she have a kitchen knife in the car...most women don't carry them in their purse...had he forced her into the car when they left their residence and she grabbed the knife on the way out, because she knew he was going to hurt her? Or did he use the knife to force her out of the house and somehow she ended up with the knife and used it on him?

Only she knows what happened...and God. Whether she is innocent or guilty, God already knows, and He will be her final judge.

Well I keep a knife in my truck. My son got it for me years ago before I learned to use a gun because he thought I needed something for protection. It comes in handy for other things qutie often. So I don't see what having the knife in the car has to do with it.

Don't you know that a lot of women keep knives or box cutters consealed for just such an occasion?

freedom, your son got you a knife to keep in your truck, but probably not a kitchen knife. What kind of knife did he get you, a switch blade, a dagger? Do you think you could whip it out and use it quickly enough to prevent someone from harming you?

Really MamaD, some women do? When I read kitchen knife, the impression I got was a large knife. Maybe it wasn't that big, but more like a steak knife.

Let me ask this question...is it lawful to have a concealed knife or box cutter in your vehicle?

A Light Sabre, like on Star Wars? The ones I've seen wouldn't have worked that well, lol. She could have poked him in the eye with it tho. They had a cool one at Radio Shack, on sale for $99, back around Christmas. But, a sword in a car? I dunno how that would have worked out in that small of a space.

These are all nice stories but............that's what they are..or maybe she was devil possessed and really was taking the knife to a birthday party where she was to cut the cake for an elderly family member and just at that moment she was ghost whispered into performing this mayhem!

hmmm, that's an interesting comment mike...one things for sure, she certainly spoiled the party whether by intention or ghosted.

hah! Seems like she could have hid in a better location than mud. How about the Ferriday water tank? Isn't that the best hiding place in the area? Wonder if they have cked there for anymore bodies lately?

First of all my heart goes out to both families. I feel that some of these comments that's being said is not cause for. Yes, you have a right to speak your mind, I understand that but this is not a joking matter, what if these were your kids than you wouldn't like people making jokes about the situation. As for the young lady if you knew her than you would understand why she carries a knife, not saying anything bad about her but she goes a lot and yes we all need protection in our purse these days. That's all I'm going to say because I wasn't in the car, but stop assuming things a wait for the facts becuse you have two families that your comments are affecting.

I agree daris. This is not a laughing matter. It is beyond me why anyone would feel the need to make jokes about someone being murdered and why it happened. God help us!

Everyone who is joking about someone getting killed; talking about practicing for Thanksgiving or maybe she needed a "Star Wars" light saber, you need to get born-again and begin serving Jesus Christ. I promise you He isn't laughing about murder and you wouldn't be either if you belonged to Him.

I still don't understand why she wasn't in school or getting her thigs togother for school at 19...Maybe just maybe with her kids...Didn't they say she just had another that was still in hospital??Why wasn't she at the hospital???

The article says it happened on Sunday, fire. We don't know that she doesn't attend school, but more than likely she had recently graduated in the last year or so. Someone did say that she had just had a baby that was still in the hospital "in the comments", but not in the article, which means that it may or may not be true..

True peace007...Wow all i can say is 2 lives wasted...Didn't it say she had 3 children? Now the grandmother will probably have to raise these 3 children...Sad Sad situations..

I can't believe that some of you are making a joke about this tragic situation. What we need to do is take a minute or two( for some of us) and think about if we was affected by this tragedy then the comments you make would be offensive. There is nothing humorous about this situation. Bringing up Star Wars or the water tanks in Ferriday is ignorant. This is not a Ferriday problem but a world problem. Instead of getting up thinking of rotten or stupid things to type, try getting on your knees and thanking God he woke you up and this is not your family going through this.I wish to express my deep sympathy to the both families. YOU WILL BE MISSED "ALEX"

First, to the Promise Family you know how we feel about Dale over in our area of Ferriday, Dale moved over the track in 2000 and became a part of our family. He's only been gone for three days and I personally has changed my driving route because i cant stand passing down the street and not seeing him standing out. We dont know what happen that day but i can say this someone should have stopped them that day before this happened. You have all these witnesses that claim that they saw them fighting as early as 5:00 a.m. in the morning. Why didnt someone stop them then? All of this happen in her area of town and not in our area. People Across the Track stick together and if someone starts to fight in our area we intervene because we care about each other and would not have let anything like this take place. We have lost one of our Rachet Boys to a terrible tragedy. To Mr. & Mrs. Promise we love you and we are sadely going to miss Dale but we will never forget him. 285 Concordia Drive will always be "Dale's". To My Boys across the Track: Bobby, Spoonick, Hosea, Keon, Johnny, Jolla, Sharrod,Tago, Freak,Terri, Ericque, Cain, Shawn, look up to the sky and smile because Dale is looking down on you all. Learn from his mistakes and know that you can not change these girls. If it's not working let her go, DO NOT hit them. My prayers go out to Crystal family, take care of little Delion. May God work this out for everyone.
