NATCHEZ — The victim of an early morning homicide has been identified as Charvarius Martin, 24, 3 Dale Court and a suspect is already in custody.

Jordan R. Bates, 18, 2707 Roselawn Drive was arrested at his residence at 2:12 a.m. this morning, on charges of murder.

“Physical evidence was recovered from the suspect,” including two guns, Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said.

Erik Hutchins, 20, 2910 Miller Ave., was in the car with Martin and witnessed the murder.

“The motive for the shooting is under investigation, as well as the exact circumstances,” Mullins said.

The original call came in at 12:59 a.m. for a fight, Mullins said.

“Officers arrived and found a white Chrysler 300 against a telephone poll on North Circle Drive,” Mullins said. “The victim was in the driver's seat and was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnel.”
