Entergy has announced a 9.6 percent rate decrease
Published Friday, August 15, 2008
NATCHEZ — Entergy customers can expect even more good news when their power bills arrive — another price decrease.
The most recent announcement calls for an additional 4.6 percent drop, on top of the 5 percent announced last week.
“Five percent was good but 9.6 percent is better,” said Stephen Caruthers, Entergy customer service manager. “It’s better for me and better for our customers.”
Natural gas prices have dropped more than 10 percent since July and this most recent decrease better reflects that drop.
“The public service commission and Entergy have been having these meetings and they asked Entergy to recalculate those fuel costs,” Caruthers said. “It’s not a profit making adjustment. It’s a pass through cost.”
The rising cost of natural gas caused the 28 percent increase that went into effect in July.
“After seeing prices skyrocket more than 120 percent since last year, we are now watching them drop significantly,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president.
The 9.6 percent decrease will affect September bills, and is part of the third billing cycle. Entergy is due to file a fourth quarter fuel adjustment today, which will effect October, November and December.
Entergy has to be very careful with these adjustments, because if they are too low, customers will see a dramatic increase in price to correct it, Caruthers said.
“The guys that are actually presenting it are probably waiting until the last minute because of the price of fuel,” Caruthers said. “That’s a position I don’t want to wear the shoes on.”

This is the same way the oil companies do it to. Raise the price of gas to an out rageous price keep it ther for a week or two then start dropping it back down, but it never returns to below the pre rise rate. And We feel grateful for the break!

Looks like we could get lights from whoever we want....Due to the Fairness act....If alaskas lights are cheaper why can't we use there company? They have to allow them to use there lines it's the fairness act again....Just like bellsouth has to let other companies use there lines...

you'd think that with the concentration of nuclear power plants we have around us here
that fossil fuel prices would not affect our electrical power supply so much
I think Entergy is taking advantage of the situation of higher oil costs and not being truthful about it's cost of electrical production and delivery
also, natural gas is plentiful, there is NO SHORTAGE of natural gas so that is a poor excuse for raising electrical fees
we are not all fools
I'm determined to get a nice generator and run it on natural gas and sell electricity back to entergy

Blessed-momma, I want to apologize for that nasty representative you spoke with and it's also indicative of how they all are. They know you need electricity, so they don't give a damn, they WILL tell you, don't pay it and it's off. This is one of the very reasons why I don't fully understand why if there is competition with land line phone companies, why can't we have different companies to offer us our electricity. I will tell you, if there were competition, Entergy would not be so smug and nasty to its PAYING customers. It's a sin and a shame for someone's electric bill to go from $150 to $330 etc., that's just really inexcusable. Television cable, home phone service, all we can do without, but electricity? It's all just a sham and a shame!

You got to be kidding me!!!!! My light bill was over $150.00 more last month than it has ever been. And they are talking about a 9% decrease when it went up in one month $150.00? Come one.... They are worse than the gas stores!!!
