Natchez man charged with six drug-related crimes

Published Saturday, August 16, 2008

NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was arrested Thursday and charged with a plethora of drug-related crimes that could amount to decades of jail time.

Clarence C. Wilson, 32, 294 Cranfield Road, was charged with sale of marijuana while in possession of a firearm, sale of Xanax while in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, cultivation of marijuana and possession of cocaine.

“We executed a search warrant at 294 Cranfield Road and we recovered approximately one pound of marijuana and a large amount of Xanax pills,” Metro Narcotics Cmdr. Cliff Cox said. “We also recovered two SKS assault rifles, one 12-gauge pump shotgun and a semi-automatic hand gun.”

“There was heavy traffic in and out of the house which is common with dealing drugs,” Cox said. “He also had a marijuana plant in his house.”

The drug charges carry a substantial penalty, but that is greatly increased because of the “while in possession of a firearm” charge, Cox said.

“A lot of times that’s a substantial enhancement on the crime itself,” Cox said.

“If he’s got a firearm enhancement with more than 30 grams of marijuana he’s looking at a maximum of 60 years,” District Attorney Ronnie Harper said.

The additional firearm possession charge can double a sentence.

The same penalty can be assessed for the possession of marijuana with intent to distribute charge, as well as the cultivation of marijuana charge, Harper said.

The Xanax, which is a schedule II narcotic, can bring a penalty of up to 20 years, which can also be doubled because of the firearm penalty.

Good going Metro Narcs! This guy was a complete danger to the community! What is an everyday civilian doing with SKS assault rifles? Just think, if this guy went nuts, he could have enough fire power for a war!

I'm sure that Clarence is really a good person, that we just don't understand him. That he has alot going on and that society has let him down... I guess the bleeding hearts don't get up 'till after daylight.

So now the supply line gets slightly restricted which drives up the price of the drugs which increases the crime by the addicts who can't afford it. Such is the way of prohibition.

O G D, I guess you want us to be like Amsterdam, where all drugs are legal and so is any types of sex. Total immorality...Is this what you want. I say he needs to spend 30 or 40 years in jail. Maybe if he is 60 or so when he gets out, he will be old enough not to want to get any more drugs at all...

Layoff OldGrandDad......there's a point to be made here for the non-moronic crowd to absorb.

From my point of view, I see just cause but the argument still needs to be made for the non-violent offender drawing much more net time incarceration than violent offenders.

redusmfan, I'll be in Amsterdam in a week or so. And I have no problem in not running downtown and buying a mess of marijuana to smoke. The Jack Daniels is free (along with other) in the Schiphol airport lounge, but you won't find me getting drunk there. I have no problem controling myself. But, the "bleeding hearts" in the U.S. have created laws in an effort to protect people from their own weaknesses. These laws are abysmal failures that have only raised the price of the drugs thus creating a huge criminal market and prison population. Again, just like Prohibition. Take away the illegality and the price of drugs drops to the dirt level and the crime goes away. I've seen what high drug prices have done to the US. I'm ready for the common sence route now.

I've been looking for a good sks assault rifle, every good citizen needs one. Don't be so nieve, if Obama gets elected and Iran does an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) strike with Russia's help, we may be thrown back into an 1800's style existence and possibly be invaded, and necessarily have to protect ourselves on the streets and from within our homes. Don't take our luxurious lifestyle for granted, we are only two growing seasons away from starvation, and just one tragedy in the Straits of Hormuz & a major hurricane away from wildly escalating oil prices. By the way, keep an eye on Fay, it may be headed for New Orleans.

Well maybe I'm a little eccentric and have survivalist tendencies, but once a boyscout always a boyscout, ALWAYS BE PREPARED. Don't trust those that openly proclaim their hate for America and want all infidels dead as well.

But good job Metro for getting this guy and getting those hard drugs off the street. I'm glad to know their eyes are out on the street watching for suspicious activity.

OldGrandDad you have a point, you know from Colonial days of America up until the early 1900's, I think 1907 or so, every farmer HAD TO BY LAW, produce hemp and marijuana for oil, fiber, and medicinal use. Just check the history on that and you will find it to be true. Very interesting. I'm not saying I condone the wild use of drugs or drug abuse, but it is common that herbs and drugs are used for man's industry and healing. We should control & outlaw drugs and herbs that are truly harmful, like tobacco, cocoa, & poppy, but not those that have a productive use and are not addictively harmful. A lot of those prohibition style laws from the early 1900's stem for big oil and pharmaceuticals wanting to control the market. You have to hand it to them, they were very successful in fooling the ignorant masses by instilling fear into the public. I want peace and order same as any reasonable citizen, but I am against the steady trend of the federal gov't taking away our freedom of choice.

oldschool, You might want to read my post again since I have never claimed to be pro drugs, pro drug dealers or pro drug related crimes. But for the record I am pro freedom and believe in having little government interference in the personal lives of citizens. I am also pro intelligent laws. And I always aplaud our good lawmen for good work. But with drugs they win some battles but seem to ultimately lose the war. One dealer goes to jail and 3 more take his place. Lawmen are hired to enforce whatever laws are on the books and I vote to give them some better laws.

I repeat, these laws were made by bleeding hearts in an effort to protect weak people from themselves. But the effort has backfired on us.

By the way, who do you think this guy was selling to? Addicts? Probably some. But normal addicts don't last around as a continuous market cuz they burn out, fry their brains, go to jail or die. Look around at your neighbors and friends and realize its the non-addicted folks keeping the dealers in business. I'm continually shocked by hearing about the drug usage of people that I know or have known. And I'm talking about people considered to be fine upstanding citizens in our area. Their dealer goes to jail, cheered on by folks on the Democrat website, but they will just find another loser to buy from.

Old Grand Dad I agree with you completely. Krogers a fellow on my Marine forum just got a new 7.62 X 39 rifle. He got 30 round mags, night peeps, rails for accessories, and lots of added features. I can't find the thread right now. That rifle is far better than the 11 1/4 pound M14 and the Matty Mattel plastic 5.56 I played with back in the 60s.
I would like to have an M4 though. Or what about a .50 Barrett? WOW!

I think I want an Israeli 9mm machine gun, well semi-auto of course-- Uzi??-- I don't know 9mm doesn't have enough knockdown power.

small and lightweight, lots of lead going out

7.62 x 39?? doesn't mean much to me, I'm not a pro shooter, what common round does that compare to - say a .270 or .308?? I think I want a shorter range fun that can spew out a lot of lead for dealing with a squad of bad boys.

Krogers 7.62 is a .308. The M14 shot a 7.62X51. A .308 with a round that is 51mm long. The SKS(AK47) shoots a .308 that is only 39mm long. The AK is far superior in carbine form for shots maybe under 100 meters. Over that the M14 round will hit accurately up to about 800 meters. BUT, and that's a big but, a rifle is only as accurate as the trigger puller.
5.56 is the M16 or civvie AR15. Methed out hadjis will still come at you with just one shot unless it's between the running lights. My buds in Iraq and A$$crackistan say they have seen all fall with one wound of 9mm. He might get back up but he will kiss sand on the first shot.
I am privvie to a new rifle for grunts right now but I don't know if I can say anything about it or not. Man! That sounds like a CIA(Christians in Action) poser.CTM
(chuckle to myself)
A good SKS would be what you want. They are made all over the world. If you buy a used one make sure the action and rifling are good.
Get it and practice. I know some gunowners who could fall off a camel and not hit sand. again ctm

OldGrandDad is right ,don't care about Amsterdam, but drugs are a social problem . How many lives have been ruined by the law and not the drug. Drinking and smoking legal drugs cause way more problems . Violent offenders are different and should be locked away . Prohibition is more of a problem than education and personal restraint . Take away the money and watch the flow slow or stop .

ntzmom, I'm sorry that you are confused. You've obviously never bought a bottle of Old Grand Dad. I'm basically for people doing whatever they want, whenever they want just as long as it doesn't affect me. Loud groups of rednecks trashing the town DOES affect me. I'm quite capable of avoiding "drugs", basic drunkenness, loud boorish behavior, recreational destruction of private and public property and I have no urges to throw my used condoms out on city sidewalks for all to see. I wish everyone else would behave in similar responsible fashion. But because some elements of our society can't, laws are enacted - some good and some bad. I hope this helps.

Legalize it all. Having laws against it has done nothing but make it worse. Give it less than a year. And the Price will go down, meaning less crime. The drug dealers will go out of business. The people that are determined to take the mess will either finally get their fill or pass sooner than they would. And because it is legal, half of them want want it anymore. Hey,, then maybe the Government can use our tax dollars for better use. If someone wants to stay drunk or drugged out. You are not going to stop them.

lol to all this, but no matter how you look at drugs and their sellers and buyers it's not good. they don't think cause the drugs they sell ate their brain, they are like a walking dead, but i say find the big daddy thats selling them and there goes alot of drugs being sold. crandfield use to be the best place to live, and now it's went to the dogs and the ones that have been there so long can't get up and move, but the funny thing about this is that our sheriff ronny brown lives right down the road from this guy and there is more drugs being done. it all depends on who they catch and who they are, i guess thats our finer sheriff for you.

dixiemama, Amsterdam is a major hub for certain airlines such as Northwest and KLM. If you fly to Europe, Asia, the Middle East or Africa you will go through Amsterdam. As a frequent flyer I have lounge access there, as I do in other airports. In the lounge you can get coffee, tea, apple juice, orange juice, beer, jack daniels, vodka, scotch, brandy, etc. They also have cheese, bread, cookies and such. For someone to pass through Amsterdam, my suspicions are not raised in the least.

My comment about cyber-space was meant as a reaction to your false accusations against me - You had previously said that you come to this site for "blood" and I was saying that, in this place, I don't get hurt and I don't come here to hurt anyone.

I did read some of your other posts and apparently at some point you have had some Christian influence in your life. To bear false witness against someone falls far short of Christian expectations. I'm glad to accept your apology for that, but at the bottom of your last post you further suggested that I am a bad grandparent again and that I don't put forth myself as a good example. In fact, I do my best to try and put forth myself as a good example to all people in all things that I do; something that I think I was trying to communicate in all of my previous posts on this very subject; self-control and good behavior.

Best wishes to you.

OldGrandDad to say you do your best to try and put forth a good example to all people in all things is really funny.
You claim to lounge in Amsterday during a hold over, but this is a previous comment you made:

I'll be in Amsterdam in a week or so. And I have no problem in not running downtown and buying a mess of marijuana to smoke. Now gramps where is your self control?

dixiemama, Am I communicating poorly? I DO NOT run downtown and buy drugs of any kind. And it causes me no anguish in not doing it. I'm perfectly happy being drug free.

i do have my facts right unless you prove otherwise, which i hardly believe you can do. as for our sheriff he has proven to me how lowdown he is along with his deputy dogs. i'm only writing the truth and if you can't handle the truth don't read in this post. as for ladybugs question, you are more than likely right lol. natchez500 do you have a thing for ronnie brown or what, cause you love taking up for him and the rest of his deputy dogs. i was taught to respect anyone until they show no respect for me or my family.

Reading these comments, I can't help but recall an old saying that I believe can be applied to the many responses I've often read in comments. It went something like this:

dixiemama-overthehill60, Please let me help you with a little reading comprehension. My statement, which you quote, says "NOT running downtown to buy..." YES. That is what I wrote and I think its plain english and easy to understand. But since it was hard for you I further explained it above. Not simple enough for you yet? Sorry, I can't help.

I complained about used condoms littered on Natchez streets. Another poster defended the trash and also said used needles were there too. Its easy to go back and read if you choose or if you can. Again, if this is still too hard for you to understand, I can not help you anymore.

And I am in no pit at all, thank you. Our posted words here stand for themselves. And we'll let the readers judge who is chemically impaired.

dixiemama or whoever you are...why are you attacking OGD, you have misunderstood his comment and posted it several times. Also, Amsterdam is not a country but a city in the Netherlands.

Gimmeabreak

Give me a break I know where Amsterdam is, I have been writing a lady there for over 3 years, I also a lady in Gouda, Holland.
Maybe I did misunderstand his comment, but honestly I don't think I did.
If you read all the comments (ntzmom) was confused too.
Maybe be was trying to be funny but for an OldGrandDad he should tone it down some.

I wrote him about the mixup about overthehill60.

"I'll be in Amsterdam in a week or so. And I have no problem in NOT running downtown and buying a mess of marijuana to smoke." This is what OGD wrote.

What part of NOT did you NOT understand? LOL

He said he could go to Amsterdam and would have no problem leaving the drugs alone, even if they were legal to buy there.

OldGrandDad
Well the laugh is on you now! It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be finding out you who you are. Oh trust me I won't tell, your secert is safe with me.

As for me referring to your family I was just reminding you of a previous post about your nice wife, two children, nice house & two cats. I posted that on the topic about how you enjoy going to Asia to eat dogs.

Now as for if or if not you smoke pot that's your business. You've admited eating domesticated dog so why not some pot while you eat them. It would take more than pot for me to get the nerve to eat one!

Again don't worry about your identity it's safe with me. I just like having it for futher refences.
You never know when you may overstep a bigged hurdle than a stupid idendity mixup. I would NEVER go for blood. I'm not the violent type person. That's silly, Anyway I don't like the sight of blood. I would't hurt a dog much less an OldGrandDad!

The only thing I don't understand is why pay such a huge price when there are states that you can legally smoke pot here. If I'm not mistaken you are one that upholds the law of keeping things in America.

Now if you would not mind please stop calling me overthehill60:dixiemama it's very inmature & childish.
