Card gives prescription discounts
Published Sunday, August 17, 2008
NATCHEZ — Residents of Adams County will soon be able to get their prescriptions discounted.
Adams County Supervisor Darryl Grennell worked with the National Association of Counties to institute their discount program in Adams County.
County residents will get a discount card that can be used at pharmacies to claim a minimum 20 percent prescription discount”
Grennell first heard about this program at a NACO meeting back in January.
“It was also mentioned at a recent supervisors’ convention down in Biloxi, which I had already started my paperwork,” Grennell said.
About two weeks ago, Board President Henry Watts executed the documents and Grennell said NACO contacted him this week to let him know that the cards were being made.
Grennell said in about 30 to 45 days the cards will make it to the county.
“They are in the process of being proofed and printed,” he said.
And picking them up should be fairly easy for residents.
“We’re going to actually have these cards in all of the county offices throughout Adams County,” he said.
So, if someone is going to the tax assessor for some reason, they can also pick up their new pharmacy discount card.
Grennell said he hasn’t seen where the card has an expiration date and is sure that when using the card, proof of residency will be required.
He said he requested to have several hundred cards printed in a Spanish version.
While this program is open to all counties belonging to NACO, Adams County is only the second county to utilize it, Grennell said.
The other is Lauderdale County.
Grennell said he is thankful to the other board members for giving him to go-ahead to pursue this program.

Is being a county resident the only requirement for this program? Wish there was more information in this article. The price of perscriptions for any heart problems is crazy, we could use all the help we could get.

I agree Hambone. Why print some in Spanish? If they can't read or speak english, they shouldn't be living here.

Some of the comments are not coming on in the order received, but by time. Is it because of the clocks on different computers are wrong? Just wondering......

Hey Hyram...let's get that here in Concordia Parish! Pull some strings, Mr. Copeland. Everyone in the United States should be getting one the way I see it.

I'm proud of Darryl for doing this, and Henry for helping it through. This could be a huge help for so many!

I think this is a good thing for the citizens of Adams County. Too bad it's not for surrounding areas. I understand Mr. Grennell wants to take of is own. I was in line at the WalMart Pharmacy, and there was an elderly lady from Woodville. Her medications were $260.00, and she couldn't afford it. It really touched my heart to see her drop her head and walk away. If I could have helped her I would have.

Does anyone agree with me that it should be a crime for drug companies to steadily increase prices on drugs that are used primarily on fixed incomers??

Yep, aak1972, it should be a crime, but it's not. I believe it's a crime against ethics, though...and that's pretty bad.
drawpaint..I bet you wish you had the money in your purse to pay for it. I would have too if I had it. That breaks my heart.
The rich keep getting richer and poor stay poor. The shame is many rich people have no conscience and have the tendency to forget we regular people exist. Too much selfishness in this world.

Why print some in spanish? Thats easy, so people who have never paid into the system get to reap the benefits. Government accounting 101!!!!!!!!

drawsingpaint,
You have such a GOOD heart! I've noticed it in many of your earlier posts. I feel the same as you when I see someone less fortunate, and am in the same boat as you (wanting to help, but just not able).
These days it's so hard to take care of our families and ourselves. But, it's still difficult to see someone who has to make a horrible choice between medicine vs. other neccesities.
