Casino coming in fall

Roth Hill Road casino waiting on title work

Published Monday, August 25, 2008

NATCHEZ — Construction work on the Roth Hill Road casino is projected to begin late fall.

Natchez Enterprises President Ted Doody said several things are waiting in the wings to be completed.

“We’re taking steps now to finish up the title work on the property and we intend to execute the option on the lease as soon as the title work is complete,” he said.

City Engineer David Gardner said the company already has an option on the lease.

Doody said executing the option they have means that the lease will actually go into action.

Title work, he said is insuring easements and making sure there are no deed restrictions.

Essentially, it’s being 100 percent sure the city has clear title to the property, Doody said.

“It’s just standard real estate practice,” he said. “It’s nothing special.”

Gardner said that’s a no-brainer.

“It’s going to clear,” he said, though it is the city attorney’s job to do that.

He said this is about a 30-to-45 days process and the company has the intention to execute the lease in early October.

Then, the project needs to move on to get local approvals.

He said this means getting the OK from the various boards and departments in town — engineering, planning commission, preservation commission and aldermen.

“We’ve been redesigning and those are starting to be complete and are getting to the point now where the various administrative review panels can review, assess and comment,” Doody said.

Then the company will face the simple task of getting a building permit.

“I think that will put us in good position to commence construction sometime this fall, late fall,” Doody said.

Two months ago at the grand opening of the Country Inn & Suites, Doody spoke a little about the project and said no plans were going to move forward until after the spring thaw.

The fear was that the Mississippi River would rise again, once more covering the base of Roth Hill Road — an area pivotal in the development of the casino.

The two-story, 40,000 square-foot casino will boast two restaurants, a bar and lounge and an outdoor entertainment and dining section.

It will be amphibious of sorts, being anchored partially on the ground but the rest suspended over the water.

A park is also included in the plan that will tie into the Natchez Trails project.

The entire development has been estimated to be around $50 million.

I'll believe it when I see it. The one south of the bridge doesn't seem to be making any headway either.

LOL to the above intertainment...Michael...He's not even in the Country.

I'll be in line for opening day...Just like with Lady Luck...didn't win a thing on the slots...it just ate up my 20.00 on the same slot. LOL Thats when I learned to play Black Jack...then Dice too. That's where the money is...they say the slots pay the employees. What does that tell you??? Don't play the slots!!! Learn the table games.

boy what a crock. David Gardner keeps saying all this great stuff about this bunch of clowns. This casino has not put up one dime yet to the city and the site is totally built, all they have to do is pull up a dang boat and start gambling. The city paid for the improvements not the casino.

I see the whiners and complainers are up and at it today. Consistent as the sun.

Miss Natchezsouthside, you are very right. some people that come here are never very happy people and they really go out of there way to make darn sure that every body knows just how unhappy they are. You seem to be a very nice person. Maybe next time I am in town I can buy you a margariter drink at the new Fat Mama's.

Fenwick, I thought you lived here now. Since everyone is so nice to you. Now do not have a conniption over this...but.....you just need to keep a lid on it, your writings mean nothing, they are just empty misspelled words. By the way, I am a very happy person with my life and surroundings. If you buy anyone a drink hope it is some where besides in Natchez.

Mr. Whataboutit, it seems plane as a pig snout that you are not nearly as smart as you think you were. I aint never said I live in Natchez. But Natchez is happy to take my money because my money is green and you must not be a busyness person or you would be glad to take money two.

LMAO!!!!!This really makes my day a little more laughable. Keep it going!!

Thanks Fenwick. I appreciate the offer.

As for whataboutit--man oh man so much for southern graciousness.

I think all the boats should be motorized and they could race up and down the river , so as you gamble on the boat you could gamble on the races also!

excellent suggestion aak1972!

Fenwick, are you a special needs child? What do pig snouts and the color of your money have to do with anything?

Posted by MSviaTN (anonymous) on August 25, 2008 at 2:51 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Happybunny - sorry to tell you but Fenwick made more sense than you did on your question - think everyone got what he meant but you.

Anyone who believes Fenwick is for real needs to know that he is not. He said "busyness" instead of "business" and said "ain't never" instead of "haven't ever". People speak in double negatives sometimes when they are in informal settings. I have even done it myself although I switch back correctly when I'm in education settings. I don't believe, though, that I have ever seen anyone write in double negatives. Fenwick is the alter ego of someone who is probably intelligent and is just trying to be funny.

Or either he drank "two" many "margariters". Sorry to say but really, not too much of anything he has said has made much sense.

I think he may be making fun of some of the Natchez mentality :)

Posted by EnKiKur (anonymous) on August 25, 2008 at 5:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yes, his mistakes are consistently funny.

Fenwick is very funny...I love to see her/him get some of you upset...

He is very similar somehow to texasranger. I wonder if they are the same person.

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on August 25, 2008 at 9:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

EnK...they seem to have roughly the same mentality...jury's still out on that though.
