Wilkinson voting sorry at best

Published Thursday, August 28, 2008

Enough is enough.

A report issued Tuesday by Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann’s office casts serious doubts about the validity of the June 24 special Democratic Party primary election in Wilkinson County and the July 22 special general election.

The details of alleged wrongdoings in the elections are downright scary.

Almost a year of accusations, lawsuits, countersuits and investigations of voter fraud and mishandling of ballots delayed both elections, which were originally slated for 2007.

Yet, despite having more than a dozen state and federal poll watchers on hand during the June primary, Democratic Party poll workers violated state law — repeatedly. We can only imagine the horrible crimes these people may have committed if no one was looking.

From helping voters who obviously didn’t need or ask for help to mishandling ballots and even accepting what appeared to be free lunches during the election, the observations mentioned in the report appear to be criminal.

Suspicious actions of the poll workers were so widespread that the validity of both the June primary and the July general election were questioned by the Secretary of State’s office.

The next step is obvious. Attorney General Jim Hood’s office must swiftly step in and prosecute those who have so flagrantly violated the law.

Regardless of whether or not the accused are members of the same political party as Hood, the attorney general has a moral obligation to see that justice is served in Wilkinson County.

Ultimately, confidence must be restored to the voting process, even if doing so requires criminal prosecution. Only then will justice be served.

Hey, we know kids are probably going to drink when they go off to college, but if keeping the legal limit at 21 reduces so many fatalities, then by all means I support it.

I would be so ashamed if my name was connected with cheating, bribery, misconduct, etc. Have these people no conscience?

I am so sorry for the honest folk of Woodville. I hope they eventually find peace in that town, but until the state steps in, they're doomed.

Jim Hood has been re-elected and will do nothing. He's been here before and done nothing, so don't fool yourself into thinking that he's not in the pocket of the Democrats. We'll see no progress in this state until we all hound the legislature daily until we get voter ID as a basic start to reforming the voting process.

I've tried to tell ya'll how rotten this whole situation is in Wilkinson County . I don't believe anything is going to change in the near future though . Voter ID would be a start but these criminals know how get fake ID's . Voting with fingerprints would be better .

Ok, now, that's just pathetic.

Sounds like Ike Brown has moved to Woodville. I hope when the elections in November come that the state will have a few hundred people on hand to watch the election process.

Maybe if they had badges and a gun it would help......with live ammo.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WOULD PUT A FEW IN JAIL, THEN MAYBE THEY WOULD THINK TWICE AT THE NEXT ELECTION.
A.G. WILL GIVE THEM A SLAP ON THE WRIST. DR. LIC. OR VOTER ID CARDS WOULD HELP, OF COURSE THE BLACK DEMOCRATIC GROUP IS AGAINST THAT, I WONDER WHY. WE'LL SEE HOW THE NEW CLERK OF COURT DOES. AT LEAST THEY GOT RID OF ONE CHEATER.

Ike Brown was told not to get close to a voting precinct in Noxubee County because of the dumb crap he did....I think it is time to bar a bunch of people from Wilkinson County voting precincts.

We have people in Wilkinson County that is barred from elections also but we make poll workers out of them.

Make it illegal for them to be within 1000 feet of the voting precinct. That would help.

First of all, if you don't live in Wilkinson County, you don't know what is going on. Its the WHITE democratic group that is messing up everything. They want to take over everything and are the main ones that had these crimes committed. There were plenty of state and federal poll watchers at the polls, so if someone did something wrong and got away with it there, obviously they weren't doing their jobs. Everybody needs to wake up in Wilkinson County and stop being so hateful. Whites against the Blacks and vice versa, but what is that going to solve: "NOTHING!!!" When they stop being so childish then maybe things will be better.

I am someone that has witness this mess first hand. You can claim all you want and I am sure some folks will believe you when you distort the truth. Which by the way you should change your name, "speakdatruth", because what you have posted has nothing to do with the truth except there were plenty of state poll watchers there and they are apparently reporting what we have been saying all along. Based on the Secretary of State’s report, the folks that are charged with elections, you can stop trying to fool the folks that do not live in Wilkinson County. They can see someone other than Wilkinson County residents view that they have witnessed first hand.

Caught red-handed and still trying to back peddle.

No, I don't believe a word spoken in defense of the cheaters, Spanky. Yall told us all along what was up and then they decide to act out in yall's faces and prove it...but they got busted out. We all know the truth now. Have they no shame?

For the record, speakdatruth, ANYONE can post an opinion, whether they live in Wilkinson Co. or not...freedom of speech, remember? Secondly, your comment about "everybody needs to wake up and stop being so hateful" is quite contradictory, since in your first sentence you pointed directly at the WHITE democratic group. Your words are indicative of someone who has a decisive spirit....which does not bring us together. I am an African-American citizen who used to live in Wilkinson County and know there are several African-American Knuckle-heads who should never have been chosen for any public job in Woodville. Some of their actions have been an embarrassment to me and I look forward to the powers that be to find them and prosecute them. I can't speak about the white groups, because I don't know them...all I can speak on is the ones I know...but saying the White group is messing everything up must certainly be an overexaggeration.

I think speakdatruth must be talking about the white members of the Wilkinson County Democratic Election Committee--da truth is that there were more European Americans on this committee than African Americans. There was not a white and black committe until Keylan Sanders stepped in, and over stepped his authority and divided the committees by race to circumvert this majority. I wonder why?
