Sanders, West attend Democratic National Convention

Published Friday, August 29, 2008

NATCHEZ — Forty-five years have passed since Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have A Dream Speech.” On that very anniversary, the first black presidential candidate gave his nomination acceptance speech.

Former Natchez mayor Phillip West, an elector at the convention, said he clearly sees the significance.

“He’s the only person in my lifetime who I’ve heard speak that I put on the same level in terms of charismatic and intellectual and inspirational as Dr. King,” he said.

But it’s not just the one speech that one night, the entire Democratic National Convention has been an unforgettable experience for not just West but also City Attorney Everett Sanders, who is a superdelegate.

West said he’s so grateful to have had the experience of going.

“It’s a tremendous feeling. This is among the highlights of my life because a person where I have come from would never have anticipated, expected, dreamed that I would be living to see us reach such a moment,” he said.

Sanders also said he’s glad to have had the opportunity to witness history in the making.

“I think this is a significant moment in history and I’m very pleased to be a part of it and witness it,” he said.

Both men raved about the speeches that had been given over the course of the past few days.

“Sen. (Hillary) Clinton did a tremendous job (Tuesday) night and the night before Michelle Obama did a tremendous job,” West said.

Sanders said former president Bill Clinton’s speech was also very good, as was the speech from Barack Obama’s running mate Sen. Joe Biden.

“His speech was very good,” Sanders said of Biden. “I think he identified closely with the middle class and the working class persons in this country who have been hit the worst by the Bush economic policy.

“I think Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama will make an excellent team.”

Sanders and West also said the atmosphere of the convention was incredible.

“It was electrifying,” Sanders said of the night Obama was officially nominated. “The mood of the convention has been steadily building.”

West said the atmosphere was one of unity.

“People are really coming more and more together and more centered on the message and the policies and the things that need to happen to make (this) a better place,” he said.

I think Biden is diffinitely an asset to Obama . Except that he is pro choice , he thinks like a Republican . It makes it more bareable if Obama should become president .

Beau Biden gave a great speech too and brought tears to many eyes with the story of how his mom and sister were taken years ago in a car accident while Joe, his dad was in Washington D.C. having been newly elected into the senate. What Beau failed to mention is that he won't be here in November, because Beau himself a captain in the National Guard is being deported to Iraq in October.

Google: Beau Biden's speech for the complete story.

I wish I could have been there in person. What was so amazing to me was the many different ethnic groups that were seen throughout the entire broadcast of the convention. And just think, the speech was delivered on the same day of Dr. King's "I have a Dream!" For me, this is extremely exciting, the fact that people are being measured on the content of their character and not the color of there skin.

For those individuals who say Obama lacks experience, look at the supposed experience of this current administration. Also, if you want BS, look to the current administration, for there's enough to go around 10 fold.

One thing, incognito, if Obama and Biden are going to bring us change and move us forward, why did John Kerry say two days ago that Iran is chasing nuclear weapons when the UN inspectors have said Iran is not doing this? How is this any different than the Bush regime's stance which was contradictory to UN inspectors before Iraq? Was Kerry's statement made only to blame the Bush administration for Iran's nuclear desires, or is this a foreshadowing of continued US bipartisan propaganda to prolong military action in the middle east in search of US hegemony?

Whichever it is, Kerry, speaking for the Democrats, is not expressing change or hope in either possibility.

Michelle Obama's thesis from Princeton, the topic concerning BLACK WOMEN EQUALITY. Now tell me if that is NOT racist?

And why, incognito, in that same speech did Kerry characterize the recent events in Ossetia as a Russian invasion of Georgia, when in fact what happened was a Georgian invasion of Ossetia and an attack on civilians with 2,000 Ossetians holding Russian passports killed? This is the same way the Republicans characterize the event.

As far as I can see the Democrats are just like the Republicans in supporting the genocide and denial of autonomy of people standing in the way of oil and gas pipelines.

I guess the change Obama is hoping for is that he will be the one leading the charge and handing out the resultant favors- Biden has already promised Georgia a billion dollars to help cover the losses Georgia suffered from baiting Russia by attackin Russian citizens living in Ossetia. As for Georgia's leader he is saying the attack against Ossetia was not just about Ossetian independence but for "future world order".

Biden himself has a long history of deciding what the future world order should look like.

From Joe Biden's June 29,1992 speech to the Senate:

"Although President Bush (Sr) called the New World Order a "big idea" one may surmise that the President did not follow through with the concept of a New World Order because he had not thought it through (in Iraq, 1991)...Instead, I shall urge that we revive the concept of a New World Order, rescue the phrase from cynicism and invest in it a vision that should become the organizing principle of American foreign policy in the 1990s and into the next century."

There's your change for you incognito. I hope you enjoy it. Maybe Obama and Biden can correct Bush Sr.'s military shortfalls.

I think the proper way to think of this union of Obama and Biden is spokesmodel and corporate sponsor, with Obama being the glamour and Biden the corporate manager. Out with Bush/Cheney, in with Obama/Biden.

Has anyone read Biden's 'On the Threshold of the New World Order: The Wilsonian Vision and American Policy in the 1990's and Beyond'?

Yes, Obama has found his foreign policy man hasn't he? I wonder if the intelligence agencies will be able to give them more accurate information than they gave the former duo? What are ya'll betting?

EnK, are your sources viable?

Obamaya... M Obama's thesis was not on "BLACK WOMEN EQUALITY", but the impact the Princeton experience had on blacks. For example, did the black alums return to and try to uplift black communities or work for corporate America; where black alums active within alumni chapters, ect.... Even if the subject was "BLACK WOMEN EQUALITY" isn't that an issue within this country, as well as equal pay for women?

Also, please note that when this thesis was written, the author was around 21 years old.

Yes, my sources are viable Incognito. Here is the AP report on the Aug. 07 attack by Georgia on S. Ossetia, which was played for the most part in the news as a Russian attack on Georgia. S. Ossetia has claimed independence from Georgia since 1990, soon after the breakup of the USSR. 80% of the citizens of Ossetia hold Russian passports. Georgia waited all that time, until the opening night of the Olympics to attack. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hV2N6... The only Russians in Tshkinvali at the time were a small peacekeeping force there by agreement with Georgia; Georgia also had a peacekeeping force in town. The Georgians called up the Russians and said they were declaring war and the attack began immediately.

Fox News skewing eyewitness report of American citizens in Ossetia at the time. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...

Biden seeks one billion for Georgia, Dow Jones newswire:
http://www.nasdaq.com/aspxcontent/NewsSt...

As for the Wilsonian views of Biden, just go to the senate archives and go through his speeches. The whole June 29 speech is hard to find, though you can find numerous scholarly references to it by academicians and think tanks around the world if you look.

What was the Wilsonian Vision? It was to form a League of Nations who worked in partnership with corporations to manage the world's resources and promote world peace. The corporations would be assured a sort of first lien against the resources of any country they helped develop or rebuild, on their terms. This plan was rejected by the American people of that time partly because it was hatched in secret, and partly because the people felt we didn't have any business trying to set up a global government.

I don't think four more years of failed Bush policies is a better choice than Obama/Biden Incognito. The supporters of both parties need to wake up to the enormous cost at all levels of continuing to pursue these many schemes of world domination aided by our allies in NATO who contribute so little and depend on us for defence and securing of resource hegemony from which they intend to benefit as our allies.

Right now, as we write, both the US and Russian have destroyers in the Black Sea with nuclear missiles on board, caused by this sudden attack on Ossetia by Georgia.

NATO, and both parties, and Joe Biden in particular, say we have a duty to intervene when one nation attacks another in this manner and especially when the attack involved genocide. Why then is NATO protecting Georgia and sanctioning Russia? It should be the other way around.

You can bet Biden's billion dollar gift to Georgia won't stop at one billion and that the money will be used primarily on arms. What is so different and new about that? Not a damn thing in my view.

Why attack S Ossetia now? Well, S Ossetia has been buying its natural gas from Georgia for $300 per cubic meter and Russian is buidling a new pipeline into S Ossetia that will deliver gas for $40 per cubic meter.

NATO of course thinks this Russian gas should be shared with them. After all, aren't we a global village and shouldn't we share and share alike?

Biden's belief is that we should exert more influence on Russian and China to open their countries to the "free market" and allow the west to consolidate currencies among the various republics. What that really means is he feels Russian and China should allow western corporations to dominate business there to take advantage of low cost labor and energy.

Yeah, lets remove troops from Iraq WHILE WE ARE WINNING! Real smart. How about another 9/11? Then what, spend the money to put them all there again? Every single person involved in the 9/11 attack on the trade centers (who lived) says the same thing. It could and will happen again! Then what?

Let me ask all of you this, what do you think Obama will do if there is another 9/11? Think he will run to the leader of the Taliban or Al Qaeda and ask them to be friends?

I mean, really, why cant we stop being selfish about our lives, and start thinking about our children's lives. These terrorists aren't going away. When we remove troops from Iraq, what do you think terrorists will do then?

Obama's views are based on a typical selfish United States citizen who cares only about the amount of money that is in his/her pocket, not the future of this country, not our freedom, but how much money we can have RIGHT NOW.
He says give affordable healthcare, that is already in place, it is called medicaid, and it drains mine and everyone else's paycheck. But I do not care as long as I feel safe in my country from terrorists or nukes.
McCain is tough, and that is who we need.

McCain/Palin '08

If not, kiss our freedom goodbye.... terrorists will arise again in the US, we need to be prepared with someone who has WAR experience, not someone who is still wet behind the ears!

Oh right, vote McCain/Palin, and then McCain gets us in a hundred year war just before dying of old age, leaving Palin still very wet behind the ears. Jeeesh. That should really make us feel warm and fuzzy. I don't see how being a POW gives one all that much war experience. He was indisposed. If you want experience call up somebody who was out there fighting in combat.

Make no mistake, Obama will secure our borders...but not with some foreign group like Bush wanted...and if push comes to shove, Obama/Biden will be strong in the face of terrorism.

The Iraqi government has said that they want us out. Obama wants to draw up a time table for pulling out the troops, not just pull them out in the first month he's in office.

MY BIGGEST PROBLEM(S) WITH MCCAIN

1. McCain is not the friend of the war Vets. Ask the Vietnam POW's that he gave up on saving. He said there were no more POWs left over there when many of the soldiers felt that their fellow soldiers were still over there being totured , beaten, and killed. Imagine when they got that news that the man in charge of bringing them home had given up on them

2. that isn't the first time he has given up on someone. Ask his first wife whom he left paralyzed , after he rehabilitated himself from his ordeal. He admitted to extra marital affairs that he blamed himself for and then later compounded it by asking for a divorce to marry his new, rich wife. IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT AFTER THIS, HIS CHILDREN DIDN'T SPEAK TO HIM FOR A WHILE.

3. Although significant to me, some of you wont care that he waited almost eight years before he would agree to celebrate MLK birthday.

HE CONTINUOUSLY FOLLOWS GEORGE BUSH AND HIS LAME POLICIES. NO MATTER WHO HE CHOOSES TO RUN WITH OR WHAT HE SAYS, HE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED UNLESS YOU ARE RICH.

Posted by hutto2007 (anonymous) on August 29, 2008 at 9:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)

All I know is that a "little bit" of muslim is too much. Here are some issues I have a problem with:

Obama, despite his statements to the contrary, has never voted or supported any legislation that would limit abortion, even partial birth abortion. He also opposed a bill in the Illinois legislature that would have protected infants who were born alive due to botched abortions, the only senator to do so. Obama did not support the proposed law, which would have prevented babies from being allowed to die on the table! This is infanticide, pure and simple! However, since he has gained the nomination, Obama’s new position is that he would have supported it, if it had been like the federal law. But now we have discovered that it was, in fact, identical to a law passed by Congress. So Obama lied to hide his extreme position on abortion.

Jeremiah Wright was Obama’s pastor for more than 20 years in Chicago. Yet instead of using his church to promote the teachings of Jesus, which you might expect in a Church of Christ, Wright promoted a radical ideology known as Black Liberation Theology that would be as vile as any racist teachings, if whites were conducting it. Can you imagine White Liberation Theology? Wright continually trashes the United States, the “US of KKKA,” as he has referred to it, screaming “God D— America” in his sermons. This man claims the U.S. government created the Aids virus to exterminate blacks and is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world. But he also married Obama and his wife Michelle, as well as baptized his two daughters. So why would Obama continue to reside in this church for more than two decades, leaving only when the political heat became too much?

William Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, a radical anti-American group who carried out bombings of the Pentagon, the U.S. Capitol, and a New York City police station in the 1960s. He was arrested but a mistake by the prosecutors office allowed him to go free. Ayers has never been punished for his crimes and to this day he is unrepentant, writing on September 11, 2001 that he did not believe he had done enough! Barack Obama continues to maintain his friendship with Ayers, serving on boards with him and giving speeches. Would any decent citizen remain friends with a unforgiving terrorist?

Never has a presidential candidate for any major party had this much baggage. And no self-respecting American citizen would ever associate with such a cast of characters. So why does Barack Obama? Do we really want a president who is good friends with someone serving serious prison time for corruption, an unrepentant terrorist, and a radical preacher who hates the United States?

(copied from "The Obama nobody knows")

Do you think that you are smarter than them and can see something in Obama that they cant. Even his opponents respect that he is a formidable entity in U S government and not some type of third world threat. YOU ARE AN IDIOT MY FRIEND....I think you are just prejudiced.

I DON’T WANT A QUITTER AS MY PRESIDENT!!

John McCain QUIT on his first wife , ex-model Carol Shepp.
She was crippled while he was away and when he came back they both had some rehabilitating to do. Once he got better, John McCain admittedly cheated on his wife. He wouldn’t wait for her to get better. Then, a couple of years later he asked her for a divorce so he could marry a new rich girl he had met. This new woman, Cindy Lou Hensley, even helped finance his early campaigns.

I just can’t get over how he wouldn’t stick it out with his first wife. Did he not take vows, “for better or worse?” It should also be noted that his children were so bitter that they didn’t forgive their father for several years. I’m sure I share the thoughts of those who probably felt that he quit on them. Not just Carol Shepp, BUT THE CHILDREN TOO. Couldn’t he have stayed around for them? Since only one of them was his biologically, I guess it was cool with everyone else.

John McCain QUIT on the American people when he sought to assist the Keating Five. He was one of five senators called on personally by Charles Keating to save the failing Lincoln savings. He obliged and made more than one attempt to save Lincoln and Keating. He later belatedly repaid donations from Lincoln and Keating. This scandal cost Americas tax payers almost 200 billion dollars. He was brought before senate ethics committee who later cleared him but rebuked him for POOR JUDGEMENT. Remember, three of the other senators had the careers cut short by this, but they let McCain and John Glenn skate. Me, You and our children will still be paying off a debt partially facilitated by John McCain probably for our lifetime.

John McCain QUIT on the African American Community when he opposed the celebration of MLK birthday for seven years before admitting he was wrong.

John McCain QUIT on the POWs in Vietnam.
The belief by many POW/MIA was that there were POW left there in large numbers. McCain investigated and reported that there was no evidence that proves that POWs still existed in Vietnam. After his recordings of these findings, Vietnam had their relations normalized with the U.S. within two years. This action caused him to be vilified by many POW/MIA activists.

I mean even though he did refuse at first (allegedly), he later participated in creating anti-American propaganda to be released while a POW.

blogfather, if you would read the bottom of my post it clearly says "copied". I didnt accuse him of anything except a muslim background which has been proven. The rest was copied (and factual I may add) of his past. If it makes me an "idiot" to state factual material then it must make you a FOOL to look past the facts. As a matter of fact I agree with YOU with a lot of what was written about McCain. In my opinion Palin is the best thing to happen to his candidacy. Biden on the other hand? Not impressed. Lastly, in your comment you put he "alledgedly" participated. I think all the statements I made and copied were clearly backed up by fact and not alledged by anyone. Fact is my friend, you are the Idiot.

Well Hutto, before you COPY something maybe you should be smart enough to check the sources. If FACT is really your friend then you would do your OWN research before drawing a conclusion on a topic. Especially one as important as this. As a matter of fact, next time why don't you cite your sources so we can check for validity. Nobody trusts your opinion or "copied" facts. You say all your info is fact, then the statement "a little bit of Muslim is too much" is based on what FACT. That sounds like an opinion to me. That is the reason I responded to you. Not because of the other statements. But to make the Muslim comment points in a whole other direction. You know what I mean. Don't play dumb.

POT CALLING KETTLE BLACK

Everyone who is still talking about Rev Wright, don’t forget this either.

The televangelist, San Antonio megachurch leader John Hagee, has
referred to the Roman Catholic Church as "the great whore" and called it a
"false cult system" and "the apostate church"; the word "apostate" means
someone who has forsaken his religion.
He also has linked Adolf Hitler to the Catholic Church, suggesting it
helped shape his anti-Semitism.
"What he holds about Catholicism in my mind is despicable," said the Rev.
James Heft, religion professor at the University of Southern California. "I
totally reject Hagee's view of Catholicism, but I don't know how widely
known it is."
McCain's response to the controversy has been tepid, Heft said.
Following two days of criticism, McCain issued a statement saying only that
he doesn't agree with everything Hagee says.
"In no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn
agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views, which I obviously do not," McCain
said. Before issuing the statement, he told reporters he was "proud" of
Hagee's spiritual leadership of his congregation.

I like that my post got "edited" even though I noted the source of the copied material.
As far as the "muslim" comment. I make no apology. In my opinion its like a cancer, slowly spreading and eventually will ruin our country and our world. But again, just to be clear, that is my opinion. I hope that clears it up for you. I neither fear nor am ashamed of where I stand or my beliefs. I believe there is more to this man (Obama) than we see. Some will believe I only say that because of his skin color and that is their right. The honest truth is I dont care if he was white, hispanic or otherwise. This man, again in my opinion, will bring this country to its knees, but for the wrong reasons. Again, just my opinion. Maybe I need to spend more time on the net blogging and getting the facts. :)
