By gas for our 2 vehicles for 3 weeks.

Posted by EnKiKur (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 12:53 p.m.

You two aren't very creative are you? I'm going to use mine to buy a new house and car and fly to France to take a long vacation.

Posted by redusmfan (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 6:17 p.m.

I will do all of that right after the Publishers Clearing House folks leave my driveway. I keep sitting around waiting on them. I wish they would get here soon before I have to get a co-signer at the gas pumps.....

Posted by priya (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 7:16 p.m.

I havent been to france yet can I come too please?

Posted by freedom42 (anonymous) on May 3, 2008 at 8:49 p.m.

I'll never see it! It will go to pay back taxes like my refunds for the last 2 years.

Posted by ardvark (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 6:41 a.m.

I'm gonna fill up my vehicles and drive in circles so that I can help the struggling oil companies.

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 11:32 a.m.

Wellll, for one, I'm going to France with priya and EnKiKur! Then me and ardvark will take turns driving in circles to further stuff the pockets of the Big Oil Men. I may throw a huge 3-day, gas-fueled bonfire party. Maybe I'll rent a big ole gas-guzzlin' converted Trailways bus motor home with a massive four-wheel drive in tow.

Posted by freedom42 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 7:09 p.m.

You could always give me a little to help pay my taxes!

Posted by priya (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 8:10 p.m.

No way freedom42 france sounds better. taxes will be there again next year so dont worry about your taxes just take a trip to france with us three

Posted by freedom42 (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 8:16 p.m.

Only if we make a stop in Italy first!

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 4, 2008 at 11:45 p.m.

Come on freedom...jump on the plane with us and leave your money woes with Dubya!

redusman...when the dude with Publisher's Clearinghouse shows up at your door, don't forget to say, "I just won 10 kajillion dollars from Publisher's Clearinghouse...now I KNOW it's for real!!" At least that's what they told me to say to get a bonus hunk o' money.

Posted by priya (anonymous) on May 5, 2008 at 9:06 a.m.

Ive been to Italy but sure would love to visit Italy again before france freedom42

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on May 5, 2008 at 1:26 p.m.

Well i think i will jump on the plane and go to italy as well before the goverment takes the checks back plus more..(wish i was getting one could use the gas lol)

Posted by lharris (anonymous) on May 5, 2008 at 3:36 p.m.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on May 5, 2008 at 11:55 p.m.

i agree lharris

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 6, 2008 at 10:45 p.m.

I suspect you are right on, lharris. That's just sinful as hell, them making us feel special for awhile, then presenting the bill.

Posted by priya (anonymous) on May 7, 2008 at 7:56 a.m.

I have to cancel my trip to Italy and france my truck broke down :(

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 7, 2008 at 9:13 a.m.

Oh no, priya! How about we just go to Suzanne's RubberBand Palace out West? Or go see Big Bubba's Ear Wax Collection or Toby's Toenail Emporium in the mountains? I'd kinda rather go see Randy's Roach Habitat up North. How about it? You can ride with me.

hello everybody, i am a natchez resident but no longer live there, but read the paper and the comments everyday. i would just like to say thank you all for those comments on the check, they are funny as hell. I don't know why they act like they giving us so much of our own money, but i guess we need to thank GOD for the little bit that they are give back to us. thanks for the laugh i needed that.

Posted by John (anonymous) on May 7, 2008 at 1:32 p.m.

Do you know why they are direct depositing the 'money', because they can't afford the stamps!!
Does any one know if we are going to have to pay state tax or FICA on our 'rebate'?

Posted by priya (anonymous) on May 7, 2008 at 2:32 p.m.

i wish i could take them trips with you kpage but now i think obamayamama has the right idea with the booze theory at least with booze i dont have to realize im walking when my truck cost me more to fix it than the check is worth.

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 7, 2008 at 2:54 p.m.

"...if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all....blues, despair, and agony on me!" Now that's something to stock pile some booze over right there, priya! You'll get your wheels back in motion...isn't that how things always work out? Might not be right this minute, but you'll get it. In the meantime, let's pop a top and toast the fact that we're alive and kicking. Chink!

(((Do you know why they are direct depositing the 'money', because they can't afford the stamps!!

John, if the cost of postage was the case for the direct deposits, they should have sent the checks out with the notice that came in the mail that we were to expect the check. I'm sure we will have to claim the stimulas check as income on next years federal and state taxes.

The really smart people will use their check to purchase a very good bicycle, which won't need insurance coverage or fuel. Over the long run that would save them mega bucks which they could use to purchase staple products and groceries that are steadily rising in price.

The other really smart people will deposit their checks into a Roth IRA. A 23 year old with a $600 rebate could use it to open a Roth IRA, and if they make regular annual deposits of $600 (or $11.53 a week) with an 8% return, that $600 could add up "in time" to quarter of a million dollars by retirement age...according to the folks that know money.

going to bribe a local politician so that I can open a business in an inappropriate place and whine when i can't have my way.

Posted by natchezsouthside (anonymous) on May 9, 2008 at 1:19 p.m.

and of course you all realize that this check is just an advance on your return next year...

Some of you are going to have to pay taxes on April 15, 2009 when your normal refund is less than the $600 you got in advance this year.

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on May 9, 2008 at 1:42 p.m.

Well then I am just going to quit my job, have a bunch of kids, and live off the government. That way, I wont have to pay taxes next year, I will actually receive MORE that I did this year! WAHOO! THE AMERICAN DREAM!

Posted by natchezsouthside (anonymous) on May 9, 2008 at 2:03 p.m.

yeah but make sure you get some fly rims!

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on May 9, 2008 at 2:40 p.m.

American dream =

1. No work today
2. Free pay
3. Fly rims in hooptie
4. No tax paying
5. Sit outside all day
6. Free healthcare (Medicaid)
7. no work tomorrow
8. Free food

I have to save mine to help me with maternity leave from work this summer. Thank God for that stimulus money!

Posted by trulyblessed (anonymous) on May 12, 2008 at 12:50 p.m.

To my understanding: The only stimulus checks that are being direct deposited will be those of people who had their income tax checks direct deopisited.

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 13, 2008 at 1:03 p.m.

obamaya...I know what fly rims are...what is "in hooptie"? My imagination is running wild right about now.

I am a member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin. Our Tribal Council has illegaly co-mingled Ferderal and State grants, along with all our Tribal general funds against the approval of the majority of the Tribe. Most of this money was sent to Mississippi in order to get the Grand Soleil Casino up and running. From the illegal actions of the so called leaders and representatives of our Tribe, we are now in financial ruin at over 80 million dollars in debt, and with over 10% unemployment becaused of forced lay-offs and terminations of programs, we are recognized as in a depression. This is outrageous! With my stimulas money I plan to get information on what is happening down there and why it has taken so long for justice to be done to these criminals. What is going on down there anyways?
A concerned Tribal member.

<<canman>> You can't blame this one on Natchez. All of you people got into the wrong bed with the wrong people up there in the North and by doing so it ended up on our doorstep down here. Thanks a lot. We surely didn't need your problem, we manage to make enough troubles of our own. But we do have concerns over your problems and wish you all the best in trying to solve them. You were done wrong by the higher ups, the powers that be or whatever up there, not down here in Natchez.

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 17, 2008 at 9:24 a.m.

<<destiny and canman>> It's a shame the white man can't stop taking advantage of Indians in this day and time. No, it's not us in our area destiny...it's that Babay fool up North who lacks a conscience! He had the trust of the Chippewa and now the tribe is facing a crisis. Tsk, tsk. Can nothing be learned from the past? I still can't pick my jaw up off the floor over this deal! I personally could care less about the casino, but it will employee some people. Too bad it's at the expense of the Chippewa.

This is one article with posts I have thoroughly enjoyed reading, you guys have me cracking up. I got mine early, $600 for me and my hubby. We are saving ours.

Posted by canman (anonymous) on May 18, 2008 at 11:56 a.m.

<<destiny and kpage>>Thanks you both for your input. We have some "movement" happening up here, the Dept. of Justice and their auditors are showing a little concern. It seems our Tribal Council and a few other areas of our Tribal enterprises are now under scruntiny. We,(concerned Tribal members), have been trying for years for this to happen, 10 of us even staged a peaceful sit-in to demand a forensic audit of the whereabouts of missing tribal monies, a lot of Tribal money! Of course we were arrested and nothing was done. But it finally looks like some one is waking up. This past week, the Sheriff of Vilas Co.(our County) wrote a letter to the Tribe asking when the County was going to recieve it's fair share of the program monies sent by the State of Wisconsin, this grant is for the joint co-operation between Tribal and County law-enforcement,the Tribe recieved the Money and never gave the County their share. We really do have a crooked Tribal system in operation up here and its time they pay the piper.

According the the explanation I received in the mail, we do not have to claim the stimulus check as income, like we did when we got a "smaller rebate" a few years ago. Since we had direct deposit for our income tax refund, we already got ours, but my elderly mother-in-law does not pay taxes. So she is not getting her stimulus check in the mail until July 4.
I'm with Marie Allred, I just had to buy a new washer and hot water heater - in the same week (what a coincidence!), so we'll be paying ourselves back. I'm not going to complain that it's not big enough like I've heard some people do. I'm thankful for any size stimulus check!

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on May 18, 2008 at 11:08 p.m.

canman...I hate that your tribe has some untrustworthy people at the top. Does the chief of your tribe have control over all money that comes into and goes out of your tribe? Or does a council vote on it? Forgive me for being curious, but how will I ever know unless I ask?

Posted by mom2one (anonymous) on May 19, 2008 at 11:46 a.m.

what economic stimulus payment...not getting any. Anyways it should be called the economic stimulus debt. We are after all going deeper into debt.. If I was getting one, I probably would spend it on my daughter since she and her children will be the ones with the burden of paying this off.

Posted by Incognito (anonymous) on May 19, 2008 at 1:09 p.m.

Obamaya... what are you talking about????

Hopefully, mine may go towards home improvements or paying off debt!!!

Posted by obamayamama (anonymous) on May 19, 2008 at 3:20 p.m.

Oh come on Incognito, PLEASE don't be so nieve as to think this type of living doesn't occur here in the US. Actually, this type of everyday living is why this country is $9,357,018,544,486.84 in dept! If people weren't so LAZY and SELFISH, perhaps this country wouldn't be sinking further and further in a downward spiral.
