Wish I could vote, but I live in the county. Just amazing how the municipal leadership, how they actually run the whole county.

I vote for change, not because I think anyone can do something to better this city but to see what stupid comments come from a new face. Politics is the most interesting thing about Natchez.

I'm for West OUT!

I hope yall vote West out. He's worse than a cracked-out mama who's never home.

Is there anyone left who still wants him to take care of their "home"? If he's never in his office and is untouchable, then what good is he doing? No better than a parent who doesn't know what their kid is up to. I believe they call it NEGLECT.

I have never been a person in favor of term limits, leaving tenure in office up to the voters, but am almost ready to change my mind on that score. In case of the upcoming elections, I am for all new people and would be interested in seeing people who have no political background. I don't see any candidate that is super-charged but I do see those who have held other offices or current offices and don't see where they have done very much. I would like to see a candidate with a little common sense, lots of ethics, well enough off financially that graft may be slower in reaching them, and someone who will find a way to regularly communicate with the citizens. Remember, Tony Byrne and his columns -- hey we need a political blog for questions and answers. And most important, these persons need to know we want them held accountable.

Perfect idea, lamb. Put the mayor in the public eye like Tony Byrne willingly took it upon himself to do. (We sure miss him, don't we!) I thought about the comparisons between West and Byrne. Hands down, Byrne was a part of Natchez, made himself visible, and really was the "peoples mayor". West, on the other hand, ducks his public and refuses to listen, as well as intentionally seeks to drive a wedge between whites and blacks. That's a big no-no to a southern town trying to bridge the gap between the races. He knows no meaning to the term "equality" and is self-seeking. This does no good for any town, race, or individual.

Vidalia and Ferriday had the "guts" to make needed changes! The people of Natchez needs to wake and see the light! consider a new Board of Aldermen and of course a NEW Mayor! The choice is ours?

200 new businesses have located to our city in the past 3 years plus 4 new hotels, 2 major entertainment projects and on and on...

These projects didn't just fall out of the sky. My vote is West.

Hit or Miss, you can say this happened with West, but many of these businesses started in other administration before West was even elected. I have seem West on public access television. You can tell he is not and effective politician. You can tell he isn't even happy. I have seen him out at one of the local taverns one night. Personally I didn't know who he was until my friend and I left. My friend is somehow kin to West. He isn't impressed with him. Trust me, West had his chance, but failed. Time for a change. Just wished I lived in the city limits, I would deff vote

thetinman,
You are wrong about the previous administration. All Natchez did was talk about what should be here. No one knew what to do to get them here. When West took office the unemployment rate was nearly 10%, almost twice the national average. Now it is around 5.5 and back in line with the national average.

West gave me one of his campaign cards yesterday. There was something on it that really jolted my memory. Do you remember the bumper stickers “Would the last on leaving Natchez please turn the lights out”? What short memories we all have.

How can you call 200 new businesses, 4 new hotels, and 2 major entertainment projects a failure?

You said you could tell he isn’t even happy. Your “friend” that is supposedly kin to West didn’t tell you that West lost his wife, his brother and his sister suffered from a near fatal illness in the past year? How cherry would you be? This blog gets so out of hand with negativity that at times is a down right sickening.

Finally, West leadership in the face of personal tragedy is far from a failure.
