The price of gas will climb until summer vacation is over. Then it will drop back to 3.16 regular. Home gas will climb more than ever!

Funny, I remember 2 summers ago when gas topped $3 a gallon. All of my friends were complaining about it. Then they go buy a bigger truck. In America when we are mad about gas prices what do we do? We use more and more. You would think if a product was too expensive people would cut back on it, but not in the USA.

Everyone here is speculating the price will go up. The big money guys are too and they tell us that keeps driving the price higher. Israel is talking of "stopping" Iran and that will affect prices. Nigeria seems to be having more trouble than usual and that can affect prices also. The first hurricane entering the gulf will drive prices up too. Hang on to your hats.

We in America use around 25 million barrels of oil a day however, we produce only 5! We really need to wake up and make some drrastic changes and stop relying on foreign oil! Let's drill in ANWAR in Alaska!

I think blackwood is correct. Hang on folks gas will be close to $5. by the end of summer. What scares me is that it will not go down after the increase. It will mean business people will have to adjust their pricing too.

If everybody would simply not buy gas from the major companies like Exxon ,Chevron & Mobil ,you might just see gas prices declining . I'm not buying from them this summer . They are crooks .

ANWAR is not the answer and if we started drilling there tomorrow it would be YEARS before we saw results.
George Bush's brother the Gov of Florida banned drilling off the Florida coast and Georgie went along with it... Why not drill there?????? There is more oil there than alaska and easier to reach.
We are headed to an economic melt down when people can't drive to work and food becomes too expensive to haul--or buy. I stopped buying over priced produce at the grocery store. If other do too it will rot and die and there is MORE economic meltdown. Better start saving your pennies kids.

Forgot one other thing--the price of oil is being driven by 2 things.
The weak US dollar and commodities speculators. All oil is traded in US Dollars. The arabs have to keep making the same about of money even if the value of the dollar drops--so up goes the cost of oil as the value of the $ drops.
Also, people "gamble" on the Commodities Exchange--like the stock exchange--on the value of oil. It is like the housing speculators betting on house values going up. Same thing here with oil.
There is nothing we can do about it.

If I am not wrong, I read somewhere they have found one of the largest oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico, but it is in the "no drill zone". We should drill our own oil and use our own products. We are a very wealthy country, but we have too many "don't drill here because of the fish" and don't drill there because of the wildlife and the ***spotted owl.

I say we need to play hardball . Obviously the Mid east doesn't mind seeing Americans do without the necessities in life, and believe me this rising of oil prices are going to effect most of us very hard . So why do we feed them ? Come to think of it ,whether we want to are not,we may not can feed them in the future. They might just be biting off the hand that feeds them . If our farmers can't afford to buy the fuel to farm and their workers can't afford the gas to even come to work, then how can we send food to them especially when we can't even feed people in our own country . We can't help other countries if we can't even help ourselves . It's a mess !

No no no no. It is the monetary policy of OUR gov't (Genius Bush) that is responsible for the falling US Dollar. The weak dollar is why oil is so high. Also the speculation in the commodities market. (weak dollar is due in part to our HUGE national debt--thanks again to Wimpy)
Last Friday Israel said they may have no option but to bomb Iran. THAT is why oil shot up on Friday.
US consumption of oil is DOWN.

southside, I agree with you. But even more importantly, we need to get away from oil all together. Its a non-renewable resource that won't be here forever. We had a wake up call in the 70's with the oil embargo, but we didn't learn our lesson. We will never be able to rid ourselves of a need for oil all together, but alot of things we can change like auto fuel. The technology is within reach and we need to exploit alternate fuels for our cars.

They could lower prices now by taking federal and state taxes off gas, and stop putting any in the reserves, politicians don't seem to want to do this so when you vote, get rid of them and vote someone in who may think they are public servents like it was set up to be in the first place. We don't have a federal or state official in this country who won't pee down your back and try to tell you it's raining.

We Americans are spoiled to the hilt. We have had so much that when an obstacle mounts before us we want to complain. We complain about the price of gas while we pay 1.29 plus for a 16 0z coke at the same place where we buy over priced gas. $.89 for 8 oz bottle of water. Do your math and see what you come up with. No one came blame one person for what is going on, especially the president. Shame on you for doing so. It is us, the spoiled rotten Americans who are to blame. I'm criticizing myself also for doing that very thing. It's time to wake up to that fact. We have abused all our privileges in every way we possibly can and now we want to shout fowl. Until we change our way of thinking and doing we will see much more of this. Now, if I have spoken wrong and hurt your feelings then blame me for all your troubles and bash me.

I do wonder what happened to all the glorious plans the Democrats had when they took over Congress. The Democrats are very good at placing blame on everybody else . Needless to say , I'm proud to be an American even with the mistakes that's been made by our politicians and all of us folks that voted for them . You either love us or leave us !

>>mike<< the President, Congress, and Senate are the same as us in the fact they are spoiled to the brink. But unlike us they have no knowledge of how we common folks have to survive day to day. They were born with that proverbial 'golden spoon in their mouth'. They have never had to worry or count their pennies, much less dollars, as we have had to do all our lives. In Nov. we will go and vote for either of the two men that is running for president. Maybe like me, your preference did not make it to the nominations so that leaves us with the choice of the better two. Which one???? Which one will be the best for this term. They both speak of change, but others have done the same. What change are they talking about??? For better or worse???. For me, for you?? Regardless to who is elected, neither one will satisify the whole of America. That has been proven since America was founded. That is why I say don't blame the president, we elected him, whether by vote or not voting he sits in the Oval Office. I definitely could never have any desire for that job. It has to be a very heavy burden. It's the citizens themselves that have to make a change in America. Not only on voting day but everyday of their lives. I constantly urge people to vote for the best man and leave kith and kin outside the voting polls. Know who you are voting for. We do not mingle with, nor do we know these men personally so we have to use our own judgement in voting. Because he is white, or black or woman, is not a very mentally sound reason for voting, but Americans will do just that in Nov.

>>southernbelle<< thanks for the bashing, you're paying attention, but not getting the facts straight. Being spoiled has nothing to do with whether you love America or not. It's a plain, simple truth that hurts to the core. I know, for I have faced it and I am trying to do better. Because I am American, I am spoiled to the very core of my existence and I am now facing the mirror. I want to be a better American by realizing all my faults and failures as I try hard not to pass this judgement (of fault finding) on to the president. I will try to be a better conservative of all our commodities in every way by understanding I don't need everything that shows up on the shelves. I don't need to be seen or see while using our precious commodity (gas) running up and down the road. I am so very proud to have been born in America, I'm proud I had 5 brothers and 2 sons to serve in the military. I am very proud to be able to wear an American emblem on my lapel. I look at our flag and my eyes fill with tears for the ultimate gift many have given for me to be able to wear this emblem. I pray daily for our vets, our military now. I know all gave some, but some gave all. Thank God for America and I pray He will bless Her and keep Her strong and free.

The truth is we are all spoiled. Perhaps each of us should try living in Myanmar right about now with close to 1.5 million homeless people drinking from contaminated water, eatting off the street, while the government controls everything but the air that is breathed.
We cry and complain when the AC is broke, when there is no hot water, when the electricity goes off, when our car won't start, when the price of gas is increasing... but we never STOP and think just how good we have it. And everyone that is reading this is guilty just like me. We are spending our time on here communicating NONSENSE when we could be out doing something to save the crumbling Earth (and the people in it).
As for gas prices, indeed they will soar, but when will that stop people from using it? Everything will increase in cost as the population increases (which is doing so at an exponential rate). The only thing decreasing is unrenewable resources such as oil and LAND (and a large range of animal species but that beside the point). In ten years, it will be land we will be fighting for. Prepare now, or is that possible?

I deserve , my family deserves, my friends and fellow Americans deserve to live good lives and I don't apoligize to anyone for living in The United States of America for having a better life than other countries . We are not as a whole lazy people and most of us have a brain . Our nation has worked hard to be the best and I'm proud of us ! We are so aware of our problems that I have faith something will be done to rectify them . We may have to do without some things that we are use to. So be it . We will survive. Just not without a lot of whining . There is enough good and strong people in this country to not allow ourselves to be beaten down by other countries. These high oil prices are hurting us bad , so we need to fight back and tighten our belts and not whine about it . Don't buy gas from the major oil companies this summer . Everybody needs to do their part and here is your chance .

This is a great country, but industrialization over generations has made people selfish and lazy. Come on now, do not deny this. If you are not aware or disagree, go and visit the Plantation Oaks Sanitary Landfill for a day and watch as ~700 tons of garbage is buried each day. That is from you and I. Instead of re-using, we waste. It is no one's fault, that is just how life has became for us.
Eventually, hopefully, we will get it together before it is too late. But I am afraid the government is not going to help much, they are too worried about money and power.

It is not the US that is causing the price of oil to rise, it is the world. It will not be the US that causes the price of oil to fall. Oil is a worldly commodity. Many countries use more oil than water. And these catastrophic occurrances are making matters worse. Also, many rigs in the Gulf of Mexico are drilling dry holes (or are unable to get past the Mother Salt) thus practically "wasting" hundred of millions of dollars.
Drilling in Alaska is a last resort. This will extremely costly to do, not only for shipment (and running pipelines) but also for labor.

Huge deepwater oil fields have been discovered in Brazil. It will be some years before these are ready to be up and producing. But the result is going to make Brazil a major player in oil exports. Its rumored that the percentage of oil we now import from the persian gulf will be purchased instead from the Brazilian fields. This will allow us (USA) to reduce or curtail our Navy policement of the persian gulf. The Chinese and Japanese and Indians will then have to police the persian gulf instead, obviously creating a large change in the balance of world powers. But in the long run this does nothing to reduce our dependency on oil imports. But it may allow us to shuffle the problem to the next generation.

Anwar is a way to go --
What about what the Alaskans want? They want Alaska to be drilled.
If we don't start sometime, somewhere -- there will never be any from USA.
To heck with the environment - there comes a time when you have to put the ability for Americans to be Americans and that is not being totally dependent on those who hate us.
Regardless of who the President will be, that person can still only do some tings. Work on the congress to start making bills that are in favor of us citizens instead of against us.

The part of Alaska where ANWAR actually is located, is in the extreme northeast part of the state and humans can't even survive up there, it is polar bear territory and not a big chunk of Alaska to begin with, keep in mind- in Alaska they have something known as "Permafrost" so most of their land is unusable so no homes or roads can go in these areas but they have oil, oil, oil!

Think about this:
We all have seen the price of oil go down (long ago but it did happen), but not the price at the pump...the answer for that was the stations paid a higher price for the gas in their tanks so the price would not go down until they sold all the higher priced gas.
Now when the price of oil goes up....so does the price at the pump, almost simultaneously.
Explain that.

Check out the link below to learn about this vehicle which gets 300 miles to the gallon. People who have signed on to reserve one will start receiving theirs in a year. It is classified as a motorcycle because it only has 3 wheels. It is presently only sold in California but plans are being worked on to expand the market. The thing is, we do have (and have had) the available technologies needed to rely less on foreign oil imports but 'big oil lobbyists' and politicians have not allowed that to happen.

China and Cuba are drilling 74 miles off of the coast of Miami right now and we are not allowed too. The entire eastern and western seaboards are off limits to drilling, again beyond stupid. Nuclear energy is the way to go for clean electricity. France now has its entire country run off of nuclear power plants, we should too. Gas stations pay market prices for what they sell us whether they're affiliated by name with one of the big three or not. Boycotting won't help.
Natchezsouthside and mike8427 have the most informed comments on this topic. Most of you don't know what the heck you're talking about. Congress. Congress could mandate (and enforce) domestic production and domestic sale of more fuel efficient vehicles, to lower demand, which will lower the market price of petroleum products. Congress could allow more domestic drilling, which would increase supply, which would also lower the market prices. Congress could fix the budget and pay off the debt and improve the dollar, which will take a WHOLE lot longer than a six year senate term, but in theory it would also lower the market prices.
Oil companies don't set the prices for American consumers. They just happily enjoy the profits the free trade pricing system provides them. Boycott them if you will, won't do a darn bit of good. Boycott them by using less gasoline period, that would help if enough people did it.

Gas prices will not decline this time, because our national debt now exceeds 9 trillion dollars (which raises global questions about our nation's financial fitness), and unlike before, China and India can now afford to compete for petroleum. Like every other commodity on Earth, it boils down to how much its worth to the buyer. Sadly, our current national energy policy consists of our president begging the Saudis to "let-up".
However, rest assured, we will weather this: This great nation has experienced an American Revolution against the greatest military power on Earth, a Civil War that almost destroyed us, two World Wars, several economic depressions, flu pandemics, and has even survived Jerry Springer; and we are still here, the world's oldest democracy. This continues to be the greatest nation on Earth, but we will have to tighten our belts, for past sins and poor planning...

Boycotting American Oil will not help anything but boycotting foreign oil will. Stop buying gas from foreign oil. One person is president but one person does not run the United States and one person does not make all of the decisions. You have 3 states out of 50 that are keeping us from having enough oil to supply the whole United States while we research for the best alternative energy source. United States Oil Companies are not setting the prices. They also are not making the large profits people are talking about. The stock holders and employees are benefitting from it. That is mostly your average person. The only way to get anything done is to keep writing your congressmen and senators. Quit electing people that don't care about anything but making money. Get rid of the pigs creating all of the pork.

The bill for Iraq over the past five years is now approaching a cumulative $500 billion, or about $100 billion per year on average. My hypothetical estimate got the annual cost about right, but I misjudged an important factor: how long we would be involved. As we approach the fifth anniversary of the start of the war, it's worth making a new appraisal of where we are going with this investment. Is the war's total cost going to run into the trillions of dollars, as some economists have asserted? Are those numbers meaningful in terms of what to do next? If we stick around to finish the job, are we throwing good money after bad?
