Yes, I do. I trust them more than what's being shipped here.

I even buy them when I'm on a road trip to eat in the hotel at night . I never want a heavy meal while on the road and you can't get any better than fresh veggies and fruits.

Where can I get some good home-grown tomatoes here in Natchez? How much they run?

We put our tomato plants in a 10 gallon bucket this year. It is so much easier to take care of and we will have plenty of tomatoes. People don't have to have a huge garden spot for just a few vegetables. My grandmother always had one tomato plant right beside her back steps and she had tomatoes all summer. This is the first year for the 10 gallon buckets for us, but I think they will produce just fine. We also have our bell peppers in a bucket and they are doing great...right along with our banana peppers and jalapeno peppers.

I need to go pick my garden right now. But to answer the question, yes we do buy from some road side stands if we don't already grow it. Every year I say no more gardens because it is too much trouble, then every Feb. I start thinking about tomatos and if I'm going to grow tomatos I may as well plant squash and beans. But they taste so good!

I just bought some tomatoes from a road side stand in Alabama. Plus, friends are giving me squash and stuff, so I will avoid veggies from the grocery stores for a while.

I do also and I like helping the mom and pop "veggie" stands.

Between my neighbor's garden and my raised veggie beds, I do not have a need to buy from roadside vendors.

Now, if I thought I could get a watermelon that tasted as good as it did 50 years ago, I would be first in line. But, you know, after winning a watermelon eating contest during my late teens, I lost my taste for watermelon. For years, one bite and I would have indigestion.

This is my first year to plant tomatoes and I am happy like a new mother every morning I check for new growth! I also have eggplant, squash, and bell peppers along with flat-leaf parsley, oregano, and thyme. Of course my sweetie showed me what to do, but now I am learning how to garden properly. My Scarlett O'Hara-ish fear of going hungry is now quieted. I can grow my own food. Wow!
