I'm old enough to remember the bear up the tree on St. Catherine Street in the 70's but I'm too old to remember when they found the bear track at Duncan Park. 80's or 90's???

I've seen deer, coyotes, foxes, beavers, gators and other stuff in town. Its easy to believe that other wildlife can walk in too. The riverfront is a natural corridor. So is St. Catherine Creek, for now......

I really wouldn't be suprised. I mean with the high water lots of animals are moving around.

If this is not a scientific poll because it represents only the view of those who chose to vote, how do you get a scientific poll? Waterboarding?

People believe in far stranger things, a cougar on Briel Avenue is probably far more common than a satisfactory first pass of the collection plate at the Baptist Church there.

A cougar? Try hundreds of cougars! There are several cougar dens on Main Street, I've seen them. It is very possible one was over served and wandered in the the bayou around Briel Avenue.

I was thinking the same thing with all the floods, that a lot of wildlife has been misplaced by the floods. so I wonder what other animals will be seen.

MMMMRrrrrrrrroooowwww, progressntz81!!! I've heard their screams can be heard all up and down Main St. late at night! I've also heard you may occasionally catch a glimpse of the wild cat's mating rituals. Be careful doing this...you may be shocked, for the male usually has a den of cubs waiting for him back home. He should be worried about another male lurking around his home den rather than being caught with another feline.

I remember years ago a panther was killer at the end of Shadyside Street, a bear on the railroad tracks at Johns Mansville & goodness knows what else that we just havn't seen.
There was man that had the makeshift zoo on Natchez St. off Homochitto St. & several times some of his animals got loose. He is with the Alexandria Zoo now. I grew up on Canal St. & there were always deer when the river was high. So why shouldn't there be a cougar on Briel, it is right off Canal.
This is all in Natchez but in Vidalia there was an alligator & a rattlesnake in the parking lot of WalMart.
If we were to stake out 24 hours there's no telling how many wild animals we would see.
I do say I feel much safer with wild animals roaming the streets than the wild humans. The animals don't drink, drive cars, use drugs, carry knives & guns. They only attack when they feel hungry or in danger.
So for my answer YES I do believe there are cougers in Natchez!

Yes, I very much believe it. I was driving into Ferriday, west bound, passing the lumber yard when a black bear ran across the road several years back. There was another passenger with me but when we got home we did not report it knowing no one would believe us. Guess what? It made headlines in the Concordia Sentinel newspaper two days later. We had a good laugh knowing we were not seeing things. Could tell you about the ufo sighting above the Ms. river one night but of course you wouldn't believe it. No one else reported it. Several of us saw it but we have kept mum about it.

Yes, I believe there are cougars. For one reason, as has been stated, the high water could have sent them our way. The "experts" aren't always right. Can they know what animal is on every inch of land in Adams County? How can they state definitely that there are no cougars in Adams county?

Late one evening i some kind of a bugger monster low-riding down near the crick. It moved kinda like a cat on tequila, kinda sorta, sorta kinda,it had some fuzz on it like short hair. A few hours later at dark,we heard a weird sound like a soft screaming. I told my wife to take her baseball bat and go check on that noise, but she dissappeared, hadn,t seen her this week.I told my grandson i would give him $4.00 for a gallon of gas if he could capture the rapscallyun. The rising river sends all kinds of critters to high ground, who knows what bigfoots and assorted munkins and such run amuck in the woods late at night. I saw my ex-wife out by the ball park one evening, course she don,t count, but she has fangs,I know she duz, cause she sunkum in my left hand once.Yes i believe theres cougars in Natchez, and things with fangs running around. Cides how do we know whats in the woods late at night iffen we don,t..not me bubba, i got people but not them kind, go out there and look?? Yikes,i,m gonna lock my security doors and watch cops....

Saw a amardillo in Dimples oncet, somebody threw it in the front door and blocked the door so nobody could go out the front, never heard such hair raising screams or saw so many sloushing folks move so fast.,all the women,s and mos of the men exited the back door, but the monterey mauler grabbed the critter by the tail and slung it outside, her husband was already out there with everybody else except ronnie cox,she could skin a grizzly bear with a dull stone knife though, hence her nickname, nobody fools with her husband though.........i guess their afraid she,ll come gettum.
