Hank Bounds, superintendent of education for Mississippi, describes a level of achievement that schools should meet during a Committee for Better Public Schools meeting at the City Council Chambers Thursday afternoon. The committee invited Bounds to speak.

NHS track athletes, from near to far, Jeremy Davis, Wille Newman, Wesley Pendleton, Ernest Jones, Rico Richardson and Rolando Prater, finished first in the South State meet last week. Davis, Newman, Pendleton and Richardson make up the 100 and 200 meter relay team with Prater as the alternate. Richardson competes in the triple jump, Pendleton in the 200 meter dash and Jones in the high jump.

Ernest “Tony” Fields and Ricky Gray congratulate each other after Tuesday’s election. Both men won their aldermen races outright. Fields will replace long-time aldermen Theodore “Bubber” West in Ward 4. Gray will continue to serve in Ward 2.
