No one has said anything about any increase in city taxes for the recreation complex--the county has money and we are a part of the county so hopefully we will be able to do it without hurting any of us and helping us a great deal. Treeclimber perhaps you are using the same computer and software that you have had from the beginning. Working for a business here in town, most programs need to be updated every few years. I personally don't know how old the system is that our City Clerk uses but if it is time, it is time. As far as visiting other cities, I think that is a smart move. That way he will know which system works the best and is user friendly. Have you ever bought a car without trying it first?

treeclimber, you took the words right out of my mouth. he is probably our only mayor that had 16 years of on the job training. he should know better than anyone what should be expected of a mayor. mojo you need to rethink your statement above.

it is never easy to layoff personnel due to budget but our mayor should have cut the multiple jobs created by our former mayor, as soon as he went into office and that would have helped over the past year. Afterall these people knew he was creating a job for them. Those jobs were created at the will of Mayor West not because of need. Britt's position is one of need and we will feel her loss. I truly hope they don't go through with it and cut what we don't need.

Ben I remain a fan of your articles. This was a great one. No one, I do mean no one could have said it better. 9/11 and the days that followed we were all proud to be Americans; it did not matter what party, religion, race, sex, etc; we had been hurt. We have lost that feeling over the years. I agree with you it is such a shame. Thanks Ben for reminding us of how we should be to one another. Your son has such a wonderful Dad to look up to.

how about giving the savings to those citizens inside the city limits since they pay city and county taxes and the county residents have access to our roads, etc.

there is a certain amount that is put up by the city into the employees retirement determined by the amount of the salary. Less salary, less city's share of retirement. I am not sure if their retirment plan is a 401K but nevertheless the city puts an amount in the retirement plan.

thank you gemccull. i checked and the city clerk makes $50,000 and the judge makes about the same so mojo you need to do your math and include retirement!!!!!!!

Lifeboat you seem to have a better head on your shoulders. At least you admit that the city attorney's salary is rumored to be $100,000+. mrmojo says that the city clerk and the judge make $140,000 together and from what I hear he is way off. All of us that are so critical and can do a better job need to prove we care more than those already in office and run against them next time. mrmojo Brett is probably underpaid just like every other female in this town.

mrmojo why not call the city clerk and the judge to find out what their salary is? next call the local accounting firms and find out what a cpa makes. i don't think you will find a cpa that works for $40,000. the city needs to cut the overstaffing that the last administration put in that should have been done last August when the present mayor first went into office. most businesses stopped filling jobs that people retired from or move from a long time ago and distributed the tasks to those who are still working thus saving the business money without having to cut jobs then. at least that is what my employer did along with changes to our health insurance copays, etc. but even with those types of changes then now we are facing having to cut jobs. expenses continue to go up but the city's income has not. it is time to bite the bullet and do what is good for the city and quit putting it off. smaller changes could have been made a long time ago and we might have been in better shape now.
