rushinghjr, lol, that's what you think! I promise you before the week is over I will have emails from people telling me that white chocolate isn't chocolate, cheesecake isn't for Thanksgiving and they are tired of recipes why won't I write about my children? If I write about my children I get emails and comments about how sick they are of hearing about my children and I should stick to cooking. So what I have learned is you just can't please everybody and I try to have a mix of articles. Do try the cheesecake, it really is good!

crawgator, I have to disagree with you about the second hand smoke. There are numerous studies, both medical and scientific, that have proven that second hand smoke is is dangerous. These studies are on very respected sites such as the American Lung Association, The World Health Organization, The New England Journal of Medicine to name just a few.

I can agree with msfixit on other cities. The ban on smoking in restaurants and bars in Oxford hasn't slowed things down there at all. There is no question that second hand smoke causes problems, the are to numerous to count medical and scientific studies that bear that out. And I don't care what other peoples habits are as long as they don't affect my health and safety. PS I might be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure Cooper is from here in Mississippi.

As someone who was married to an asthmatic and had to leave public places on more than one occasion, I would love to see smoking in public places banned. As a health care professional I would urge you to be aware of the effects of second hand smoke. You can go to the wesite for the American Lung Association and read their Fact Sheet for Second Hand Smoke. You can also go the World Health Organization site and read their Policy Of Recommendations on Protection From Second Hand Smoke, where they list the disease for adults that second hand smoke can contribute to such as Coronary Heart Diease, Lung Cancer and an increase in Breast Cancer. There is also a sectin for children. It is a persons right to smoke, but when it infringes on others rights and health it is a problem.

You are correct in the timing of Oktoberfest. I was behind in publishing this column. Thank you.

friendlog - Please keep in mind that I did not say they were, listed in the article are the "against" reasons that are being used whenever this subject comes up. some of them make sense to me, but some of them don't. I personally feel that a school bus should have some type of child restraint, a three point belt would be best, a lap belt would be better than nothing.

Regard, I agree one hundred percent, about the awards. There should not be a separate named award for females. I also agree with you that I doubt either of these recipients would claim to be perfect. They deserve the award because they work hard in our community to give back. I know Dr. Stubb better than I do Mrs. Flach and he is excellent example of giving back. Congratulations to you both and hopefully this will inspire all of us to give a little more.

Dr. Stubbs is a very good physician. In what little spare time he has he gives back to youth. He coaches city league soccer. And his announcing at the Cathedral soccer games is legendary. Not only does he call-out CHS players he makes an effort to call out the names of visiting players. And he does as much explaining for all of us as he does announcing. Thank you Dr. Stubbs for all you do!
