Mrs. Merritt was a great educator, along with being a great person. She was my 8th grade History teacher. She is one the reasons why I am a history fanatic now and the reasons I like to read so much, because of her enforcement of the 25 book campaign. Mrs. Merritt will truly be missed. I will keep the Merritt/Hayes family in my prayers.

I felt entitled to write this tonight:

Death….

Why, why, why….

Another soul so full of life and zest,

Death itself is hard to bear on the love ones who grieve

The pain is there….knowing you won’t be able to hear that precious voice, or the joyous laughter

Knowing you won’t be able to look at that angel face sleep peacefully….

Death comes with rain and with the mind frame that it is unbearable to live without that person you love so dearly.

Coming to terms with that spirit is the most heartbreaking experience.

Not wanting to release that person from your grasp.

A child’s life was taken today….although I did not know him personally…

I cry tears for what could have become of the life now gone.

I cry in sympathy for what that family must be going through.

I cry for the 5 year old who lost their best friend today,

I cry for the birthday never celebrated,

But mostly I cry for the child whose life was taken before it had a chance to fully blossom.

I agree with npd and goodwitch, 2 of the best teachers at Natchez High, I loved Mrs. Doss African American Literature Class greatly, and I love Mrs. Crawford's U.S. History Class. The Best.

I can't wait to graduate next year from Natchez High School (with Honors of course). I don't plan on coming back to this close minded hole until I am ready to retire in this lovely "Certified Retirement Community". I try to encourage my peers and teachers to read the newspaper online. So they can view some of these negative and at times ignorant comments. I am truly amazed and saddened at the same time. But what do I know....I'm just a product of the Natchez Adams School District.
