I love the Armstrong Library and look forward to the additional system. Right now, I keep each of my paper slips in case I want to remember a book I've checked out before. Now, I won't have to do that. Keep up the good work! And, by the way, whoever makes book buying decisions seems to be reading my mind! I can never wait to see what's new at our wonderful little library!

Mrs. Miller's talk will describe the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, Journey Stories, on display at the Foundation. She will also preview the upcoming free three-day history conference, Oct. 8-10, partly sponsored by the Natchez Historical Society and groups from around the nation. The conference brochure, truly a work of art by itself, will also be given to those who attend. All are welcome. Refreshments provided.

If Rentech is in the process of courting local people to invest in the plant, this story could easily turn out to be untrue. Ask yourself, why would some little startup company's very first sale be to a huge customer such as the Air Force? I hate to be a cynic, but we've had others in town telling us about big plans and luring investors and it didn't pan out. Maybe that Dept of Justice slip made by the Rentech source proves the story needs more corroboration. I think the paper should lean on Rentech to give them an AF contact.

And a good time was had by all! What a wonderful heartwarming story. And the photo looks so appetizing. The "dart" is a great way to get reporters out there just recording the lives of folks. I hope Mr. Dee had a great birthday with a meal fit for a king!

The Natchez Democrat editorial seems to pose a new question and is somewhat evasive about its original premise. The purchase and safekeeping of the site by the people of Natchez, city or county, would protect the site and thus benefit all our citizens. When I attended the public meeting where the National Park Service unveiled their study at Natchez Council Chambers, the conditions were proven for the site to become part of the national park here. However, the public was advised to acquire the site and have it held by a local government, rather than, say the Forks of the Road group per se, so that any future plans for the site would be facilitated if and when the NPS moves forward. This was not a slam on the good hardworking Forks of the Road members, but a recognition that the local government is theoretically and perpetual entity, as opposed to a community based organization that may or may not remain viable forever. A representative from Tulane was also in attendance and there was discussion of the university partnering with the community and other groups to develop an interpretive center. There seems to be a lot of interest in the site and if the local government on all our behalf holds the deed, that would be a big step toward maintaining some local control and seeing to it that a responsible interpretation is made. I find it hard to understand why the Democrat would oppose local government acquisition and why the Democrat suddenly links doing nothing with somehow progressing toward the day when the Park Service takes real steps toward development.

If you looked at the last three years' profits under Mr. Sours you might think it would be a good career move to come here. But then, when you find out that two more casinos are coming in and the Isle will not only lose its monopoly here but perhaps all three casinos would close as the market to support three casinos isn't here (heck we don't have a big enough market yet for Target to justify a store here) you would realize you might go down with the boat. I don't blame the guy. It's a career ender.

Very excited to hear about new Italian restaurant. If the food is as good as it looks in the photo, and the ambience, as they say, is as pleasant as one imagines from the photo, we have a winner! Can't wait to try it! Good luck!

Shouldn't there be a federal charge on these guys since they kidnapped the woman by ordering her to drive with them in the car?

This is just the kind of thing that makes me wonder if our market can support more than one casino. The folks who come in here overestimating this market won't just take their own casinos down, they'll cause all of them to lose money and the gamble might cause us to lose them all. I hope the market can support more than one, for the thought of not having a "boat" here as a lure for tourists doesn't sound too good. However, I also worry that the cost to the lower income community here who may have a gambling illness is a cost most of the rest of us don't have to bear.
