As I opened my window blinds to allow the Florida sun to permeate the room, I noticed in my neighbor’s yard something so familiar. Nestled between two palm trees was a Magnolia tree. I realized this morning that I hadn’t seen a Magnolia tree in so long. Instantly a feeling of nostalgia took over. I suddenly missed the comfort of home. I needed a quick fix so I logged onto my computer and pulled up the Natchez Democrat.

I must admit that I am somewhat disappointed . As I read the comments posted, it saddens me to see that the there is so much attention focused on race issues. While race is and probably always will be an issue on some level, it should not be the basis of most conversation. Regardless of Mayor West’s race, he has proven to be an effective leader throughout his political career. I have discovered in my adult life that judgemental people have a tendency to judge others based on their actions while only judging themselves by their intentions. If someone’s behavior does not reflect a choice or decision we would have made, we judge it as wrong. We must be careful in how we discuss others.

To Destiny, I was somewhat disappointed by your sarcasm. Nonetheless, it is what it is. I asked one question and it was rhetorical. I also stated that I care about what goes on there and you tried to flip it as a negative. Then if that wasn't enough, you make living somewhere else other than Natchez a travesty. The only bag that you are left holding is strictly voluntary. It's called "DRAMA". My whole point in my previous posting was to indicate that every single word that comes out of the Mayor's mouth should not be scrutinized. There will be times that he or any other city official will not be able to answer every single question publicly. That is why you vote for people who will represent your voice behind closed doors.

While I respect your opinions, I must say that a lot of focus is being put on the consultation fee and not the sports complex. It seems that you are in favor of the complex but you don't want to accept what it takes to make it happen. What makes you think that Mayor West has not already done his homework and that the outcome is a consultant needs to be hired? I doubt that he woke up one morning, stretched and yawned while saying "I think we should set a side $100,000 for a consultant." Although I was born and raised in Natchez, I live in a major city in Florida. I read the Natchez Democrat because I am proud of where I come from and I care about what goes on there. Believe me when I say that setting a side up to $100,000 for a consultant is a bargain. At some point you have got to trust in your leadership. By the way, waterfront property in Florida is not a bad thing. It's the swamp lands you have to worry about!
