There's still hope. I believe it's just temporary. With the boat gone, maybe they can pull out of it and make headway. The restaurant has fantastic food, and they're changing lunch to a $10.95 buffet Tue-Sat, so there's actually time for lunch there during the workday. Yea! Their rooms are very nice, too. If only they could just do business as a hotel and restaurant! The location is great for just that! A lot of people don't even know where they are (the old Ramada site).

We should be pulling for local businesses...they employ local folks! You never know how this may go. Just pray for its success, because it affects our town, its people, and how people see Natchez. With the lit bridge, and the view from The Vue, it could become another little place to go!

Enough of the doomsday talk already! People want employers to come in, but they talk them down when they struggle to make it here. And doesn't it seem that someone at the ND doesn't want to see it succeed? Is it just me or is every touch of bad news on the Grand Soleil prominently placed on the front page? What's with that? I don't see as much coverage on other new businesses' state of financial health. Ever think that potential local businesses might see this as a hostile environment when they look at all these negative comments on-line?

My prayers go out to both families. Especially to the young son involved and the parents who had been so proud their daughters got to go to college. No, I don't know them, but it doesn't matter. Compassion, people, please. I wish I knew the answer to the question of how to help our young people be less volatile and understand that guns do kill, and jail is real. Please join me in supporting these families in prayer and in being there for them. This has to be one of the hardest things any family will ever have to endure.

Ms. Tina had the sweetest heart, always giving and opening her home to those in need. I didn't get to know her for very long, but I'll always remember her. I only wish I had spent more time with her. I know she blessed so many people through the love she gave others as well as the wonderful works she did through her sewing to make people happy. Welcome to your rest, Ms. Tina.

Ms. Rena Jean, I was so very sorry to read of your son's passing. My heart goes out to you for your loss of such a dear one. At least you know He's gone on to live without pain or sorrow, in the presence of God Himself, and will again be with his father and other loved ones. We'll be praying for you during this most difficult time, asking that the Lord gives you peace in your heart beyond your understanding and that He calms your mind so you can have good rest. Our sweet Lord will hold you in His arms and give you comfort as you trust Him with your grief. Please let us know how we can help you; we're here for you.

Well, at least someone knows who it was, as indicated by her remarks. They just need to get him off the street and handle it with the law. Otherwise, the next bullet might just silence her altogether. I don't care who pulled the trigger. If it was my brother, I'd tell, and I love my brothers. It's the law - cut and dried. It's right or it's wrong, they know it, and they chose to take this action. The action has a penalty. Time to pay.

The old rules apply: don't even aim a gun at someone unless you plan to kill them. And one further...if you plan to kill them, you need to be locked up, and out of the neighborhood. Guns aren't toys, they're tools for killing, and only humans pull those triggers. Those humans are supposed to be using the brains God gave them, not letting their hormones or pride do the thinking for them. Come on! Act like civilized human beings, not the gang rats that so many young men think are so cool. I personally believe the music videos and other media go a long way toward demoralizing women and devaluing life. From there, only trouble can emerge. Where's the respect? Look back at how things were just 20-30 years ago. Kids can't! Parents, teach your kids how it ought to be, or else they'll be figuring it out from somewhere else! One more thing...how much education did any of these people involved get? Thug: comes from the word for thief and means "ruffian or assassin: gangster, tough" per Merriam-Webster on-line. The moral people need to speak louder than the demoralizers. Take a stand and hold it. Our kids deserve better than this!

butch, what are we going to do about it? I challenge the people who comment negatively here to be part of the solution as well...instead of just smearing the filthy problem around on the page, where is the soap and water and elbow grease? Come on, all you intelligent people! What are we going to do? At some point, criticism must give way to bold action. Let's take back our youth and show them how important they are, and that it DOES matter what they make of themselves. If they could only remember what they wanted to be when they grow up. Action, anyone?

I'd rather they be impressed with Law Enforcement than the thugs on the street. I remember police officers bringing their K-9's to school a few times as I grew up, and it never frightened me. Only the bad guys need to be afraid - that was the message I understood, and it's true. And I was comforted to know the police were looking out for me. I'm glad they had this visit, and I think they should make the rounds to all the schools. It doesn't take that long, and it does make a favorable impact on the attitudes of kids of all ages.

Anyone in forensics will tell you that CSI is vastly embellished, especially in the timeline required. Test results are weeks slower than they show on there. Even with the latest technology exactly where you need it, it takes time. Not to mention the fire's effects slowing things down tremendously...it's got to be a mess just from that. Sounds like those closest to it will end up being right.

Two things: I believe the "desegregation" they referred to was the proper dividing of students into the appropriate schools...I'm not sure if they could've chosen a better word, but that was my take on it. Secondly, what people need to consider is that the residents in a school's area pay the taxes used for those schools, so if your child attends a school in the wrong area (i.e. where the good schools are), there is an unequal burden for taxes on the people in that area. What needs to happen is the citizens become active in their local schools and government and make their voices heard. From there, know who you're voting into the offices that appropriate your hard-earned dollars for school expenditures. OK, so that was more than 2 things. Just thoughts I had that might help others understand "the big picture". (And, yes, I had school kids, too...they're grown now.)
