You know there is a lot of talking going on about the current state of the public education system in Natchez but how many of you are actually trying to do something about it. There are people on here whining about this and that and have all these wonderful solutions to put things back the way they were before, let's face reality people it cannot go back to the way it was before. The court system saw to it in its ruling so now the only thing to do is to make better of the current situation. It has been almost twenty years and some of you are still complaining about the same things, let it go and help to make it better.

You say because there is a black superintendent and all the prinicipals are black they have each others back, that is true but its the same as in any other good ole boy network, the only difference is this network hinders everybone in Natchez be they black or white. This click does not care about your race, if you don't fit in with them they will do everything in their power to remove you from the district. This click has no concern about the well being of our kids or the city of Natchez. Everyone in power in the Natchez Adams School District except for the newly hired Dr. Stanton has no ties to Natchez. The Superintendent, NHS principal Loftin, Lewis Middle has 3 principals not from Natchez, Morgantown head principal, the personnel director is not from Natchez and that click runs the district and is running it in the ground. But yet we complain instead of being a community that forces the school board to make a change. Most of you because you don't have kids in the system just want to throw stones and hide behind others while others of you know matter what happens will never be satisfied.

I am willing to bet if called upon to help make changes with the public school system most of you would find a reason not to. Do some research and find out how many teachers will be replaced in the district this year and I am not talking about from the retirees, you will be floored when you find out. With school slated to start on August 1 for staff, the district is still trying to fill almost 30 certified teaching positions in the areas of English, Social Studies, Math, Science, Computer Discovery, SPED, Reading, and Elementary Ed. There are lots of people from Natchez who have applied to the district full qualified with good credentials who have been turned away and are now working in Tensas Parish, Concordia Parish, Woodville, Port Gibson,Jefferson County, and Franklin County. These people have a vested interest and would love to be back home but that "NETWORK" which Dr. Edney and some school board members have let manifest won't allow it.

So to all you with criticism and finger pointing get off your butts and help to fix the public school system. It goes in education that if parents want it, it will be done!!!!!

On Turnout low for NASB budget forum

Can anyone tell me when test scores will be release and if they are low , I am praying they are not, what will be the next step for the school district??? Is it true that there is a mass flight of teachers from the district once again this year and will the turnover be announced?? Its hard to build a successful anything when you can't keep people around long enough to sustain any pattern of growth....I think this is information that will be helpful to the community and its leaders in seeing what really needs to be changed in the district if any change is needed...

On Public schools must see change now

Fired all the white teachers because they shouldn't teach black kids, how about fire all teachers that cannot teach any kid!!!!!! If anyone in administration had the gall to say anything like that to a teacher or anyone that person need to make it known who said it and to what extent it was actually said. I am shocked, I hope this is not true, but it is the Natchez Adams School District and I put nothing pass them!!!

On Public now a part of meetings

EnKiKur, check your email. The committee is actually seeking help for anyone who wants to come up with viable solutions. Honestly, I believe that a new breath of fresh air needs to be breathed into the district. Its time to get someone here that can rally the entire community around making these schools better. Someone who is citizen friendly, business friendly, and interested in the well being of the kids and not the legislature surrounding it...If I may suggest this, get in touch with either Michael Winn or Dr. Benny Wright and they can fill you in better than I.

The reason the meeting happened when it did was because Bounds said that was the only time he could squeeze in a visit to Natchez to meet with the Committee. Also the fact that he and Morris have a history together and they met before the meeting makes me wonder if Bounds and Morris planned it like that to make the Committee seem like a rag tag group of citizens who are just out to make noise. It was the first meeting of its kind in four years because now Morris and the Board are trying to show that they are concerned about the welfare of the District. Why did it take the forming of this committee to get things back that Morris has taken away?

These attacks are not personal, the Democrat is making it personal when you only report half the story. We know you support Morris, that is very evident, but he is damaged goods no matter how you look at it. Its time for a change and its time for a change now!!!

Democrat, I want you to push to get the release of test scores and publish them quickly when they are released. If scores are better, I am sure the committee will ease off but someone still needs to watch the school board and Superintendent. If scores are bad, I want to see how you will justify the poor management of an entire school district....

ntz143, I apologize for my misinformation about Mrs. Steckler and Mr. Taylor and I thank you for correcting my mistake. I was told this information by some very reliable sources that work within the school district. I have also had contact with several members of the Committee for Better Public Schools that said it also came in a written letter from Dr. Edney about Dr. Morris' contract extension through the 2010-2011 school year.

Why can't his contract extension be accurate information??

Its in my honest opinion the first step taken should be by the Board of Alderman to get rid of the three Board members who voted to give Morris a contract extension thru 2011. Jake, you are apart of that board and you and your colleagues need to look into this matter pretty quickly. IF test scores come back low again this year this man would have been rewarded for 5 years of unproductive services in a very valuable resource industry, our kids. Do we really need 3 more years of poorous public school and mismanagement at all levels of our school system, change is needed and quickly? Find out what merited Dr. Edney, Mrs. Steckler, and Mr. Taylor to reward this man with a contract extension? Find out are they really interested in the schools or are they just holding down a position to feel important? The Board of Alderman need to look into these members and see if they are active in the happenings of the Natchez Adams Public School sysyem or are they just going by what the superintendent is telling them....

Thanks NTZ143 for enlightening me on the school board appointments. From what I gather, Edney is in full support of the Superintendent so the Board of Alderman need to get rid of him. I also understand that those three are united with the superintendent so why can't the board replace them or rather what can the board do to replace them with some competent, qualified, caring people??? Hopefully, the new Mayor and new Board of Alderpersons will make this one of their top priorities because if you have a quality school system you can solicit and bring in quality industry and services business....

If my memory serves me correctly the Superintendent was here before Mayor West was elected. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it the responsibility of the board of supervisors to appoint school board members who then appoint the superintendent? So if the school board has allowed the superintendent to allow this constant decline in public education then the supervisors are also letting this travesty transpire. It is not soley the mayor but all parties in local government should be concerned about the status of the public school system. Mr. Middleton is on the board of aldermans, what is his stance and how has he responded to what is going on with the public schools??? I think he needs to be at the meeting with State Superintendent of Education Hank Bounds tonite at 6pm at the City Council Chambers with some possible working solutions....Not on here bad mouthing anyone but we need solutions to dire problem...

Why is that everytime you read a comment on here there is always some hint of race thrown into it??? Damn people if we don't bring race into every issue then it does not become an issue. I am sure most people, be they white, black, blue, pink, yellow, red, or rainbow just want someone who will represent them honestly, fairly and truthfully. If the current mayor didn't do his job the people spoke about it at the polls and if the next mayor does not do his job it will be the same. Race is not the issue here it is job performance and doing whats right for the city of Natchez, but as long as we look for reasons to use race as a reason there will always be tension in Natchez. Once and for all lets just let it go and see which of the two candidates left will serve Natchez best!!!!!! Thank you.
