Being a former owner of A large Rot and now an even larger breed, ALL owners MUST respect a dog's capabilities. Large breed dogs or a breed capable of inflicting serious injury should not be co-mingled with large crowds, especially when those crowds involve children and loud sirens. NOONE can predict how a dog will react in each and every situation. My dogs have always been big babies, but they have the capability to do great harm just by thier size alone and bite strength. If you don't respect the dog, THEY will teach YOU one way or the other.

That $24,000 a year translates to $617.74 after taxes every two weeks. At least it did for an unmarried patrol officer back in the mid 90's.

Two more officers are a step but how do you plan on retaining those officers once they get three yrs experience and decide to move onto to greener pastures? Not to mention the fact that you have to involve the people living in these crime ridden areas to envoke any lasting change. This is a quick fix with no lasting results that will come of it. Not trying to be negative but it is what it is.

Congrats to the 2007 Trinity Saints Football team, Coaching Staff, and all supporters. It is hard for any team to go undefeated not to mention the fact that Trinity accomplished this while moving up a class, lost last year's star athlete, and still many players have to play both sides of the ball. Great work Saints, Coach King. Good luck in the playoffs. "If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter."

Great job guys. Nice to hear a story about the positive contributions that teens can make. This one was above and beyond the call. Prayers for the family of the driver.

Like I have stated before, budget. It dictates the level of enforcement. Long term programs do not work when you have a low rate of officer retention. Every officer that leaves must have one put in his or her place and trained. The training isn't free and grants don't makeup a budget. This is not a "Woe Is Me Attitude" that someone stated prior. It is a fact in law enforcement that those of us in the field know all too well. Where are you jj? I figured you would be all over this.

Be glad that the city seems to be recognizing this and are having a dialogue to target the problem. Now that it is out in the public eye, something may actually get done. Publicity in a manner that is conducive to a positive change will bring about results.
