The passage clearly defines itself: "If any man would not work". There are some who WANT TO WORK, but yet there are no jobs for them to go to. This is very typical behavior to kick a man while he is already face down in the mire. You're not willing to outstretch a neighbor's hand, but yet you insult the efforts of others. Clay is the fresh face that is needed to bring about new changes for the SCLC. The efforts of the SCLC are not appointed to any particular race. The article refers to "people in poverty", not "black people" in poverty. But of course, the stereotype is always running whenever Dr. MLK Jr's name is in the mix.
Don't be so sensitive oh ye people who think homelessness, hunger, poverty and joblessness only pertains to black people. Losing your job, livelihood, self esteem, home and sometimes your family, has no racial bondaries.

Seems to me that Pastor French and the Advisory Committee are a joke. You(French) been sitting on this board for 10 years and sweeping this problem under the rug, or were you sweeping pay offs into your offering basket? These poor children, having been stripped from their homes and loved ones, placed into another environment that is comtinuing the vicious cycle of abuse upon them. Poor kids coherced into believing that "The System" was there to protect them only to learn that it was not true.
Much respect to Kristy Nichols for doing her job, but it seems that her hands were tied by the Committee. How can you ignore such allegations and still allow these facilities to operate?
I especially like the part about the bill being "quietly passed", and now its awaiting Bobby's signature. Where are you Bobby? Oh, I forgot, you're out fundraising for you 2012 Presidential Campaign Bid. Don't force me to sign the paper for you!

It seems that the Jurors forgot, or shall I say neglected to mention that they occassionally lease the building out and receive profit from it. I have attended several church gatherings at that building, 2 separate family reunions, as well as repast ceremonies. The purpose was due in large because the Doty Road Center has the necessary space and amenities available. Why get rid of a building that serves the community, as well as put revenue into the purse of the police jury? Give the community the opportunity for input? Afterall, how can you decide whats good for the community without hearing from the community? Certainly another police station is not the best choice. Ferriday Police Department is already 1 mile up the road, why bring in the Sheriff's?

Dear God in heaven, Bless this poor baby's soul! Lord Jesus, how can you allow someone so insensitive to walk on this earth and breathe the same air as I do? Lord I know I'm not suppose to question your works, but I cannot see for the life of me any understanding in this act. Where is the purpose for this pain in this childs life? Why allow him to come on this earth, send him to suffer the way he did and die at such an early age at the hands of those who were supposed to love, nurture and protect him?

I have never been to Danny's Lounge and I do not attend bars period. However, I do believe that the City Alderman are trying to work with this club and its owners. I support the possible "Face Change" and imposing a hefty cover charge. This is an effort to attract a more pleasing adult crowd. Many thugs are not going to feel comfortable giving up $10-20 a head to enter. That will surely interfere with their 40oz funds. I also recommend changing the name. The name change itself with help take away some of the "horror" thats attached to the current name.
Bottomline is there is going to be a night club in every nook and cranny of America. The real good out of this is that the owners are willing to spend money from their pockets to clean up their establishment and change their operational standards in attracting a less violent crowd. It could be Danny's Lounge in Vidalia, The Mezzaluna in California, or perhaps Club Mirage in Atlanta. Where there is a crowd, there is bound to be an altercation one time or another. How the owners and the city handle it will determine its longevity.

Congrats Plezetta!!
I have never been a game show fan, but when my mom shouted someone was on from Natchez, you and Pat Sajak got my attention. I wish you many more days of excitement and blessings! Spend it well. You earned it.

Why does the Natchez Democrat feel the need to enlighten us on the history of Arkansas? Does Natchez, Mississippi not have a story behind its name? Why does Natchez Democrat feel the need to print articles that continues to remind us of the suffering and injustice of others?
Hey Natchez Democrat, while you were getting that story, did you find out how many black people in Forrest also bear the last name "Forrest"? You know all slaves took the last names of their "Massa's" back then. I know where I am going in this world because I know where my ancestors have been. I do not need something as this to remind me. But it seems that ND needs to have something to hold on to so they go and grab a story like this. Come out of the past ND and catch up with the future. The world is leaving you behind. History is ever changing, everyday.

Did anyone read the arcticle carefully? It clearly states that Ms. Landrieu had been working hard with the senate last year to get the bill passed last year. Our then Senate voted against the bill. Senator Landrieu went further by bringing the bill before President Obama who then incorporated it into the stimulus plan, which by now has gotten attention and action. We keep knocking this President, but yet if it wasn't for his stimulus, these farmers would not see a dime. One would think that in such a critical time like this, that we would all look for help from any avenue and appreciate said help.
The budget of a farmer and his work hands,is to work during the summer months and store enough money to cover the winter months. When Gustav and Ike came through, many seasonal workers lives and families were devastated. and he will not get a dime of this stimulus. In Catahoula Parish, it has been hard for my brother and his family to stay afloat. My brother and his family will not see a dime of this stimulus money. You see, the money is not coming to the employees of the farmer, but to the farm owners themselves. I am glad so that they can get back to planting and get some of those hard working men and women back to work as well.

The SICB is saying that if you don't support their beliefs wholeheartedly, then you don't need their money in your fair city. Who can argue with that?

Welfare, Social Security, Middle-Class, White Collar, WHATEVER! The fact still remains that 3 babies were unattended, unsupervised in a public hotel. It could not have been the pool, but a pedophile lurking around instead. God still placed Mr. Carter in the right place at the right time. If enough people make an outcry about this, NPD and DHS along with the Days Inn can get involved. I am outraged that NPD did not file a report. This in itself is a violation, and the officer responding to such a scene, should be reprimanded;whether or not the "Guardians" sought medical attention should not be the issue. Improper supervision and neglect of these minor children is an issue that should not go away.
The time of day someone is at a hotel and not at work does not mean that they are on welfare. School is out and the people could be on vacation with the children. Even that makes them responsible for the children's well-being, at all times. These people got away with a slap on the wrist, for which I am not happy about. The DA and the Chief of Police for NPD should not be allowed to sleep at night because concerned citizens should be knocking down their doors pursuing this issue.
This time it was a near drowning, next time it could be an Amber Alert or some other tragedy. Even dogs exhibit more care for their puppies than these people did for those 3 babies they were responsible for caring for.
