Lookingout you are in fact correct on one point and wrong on the other. No all Blacks were not slaves there was a very small percentage that were free as well as an even smaller percentage that even owned slaves. That however was the exception to the rule and not the rule itself.
As to whites being slaves you are incorrect. Some whites came here as indentured servants as did some Blacks before the real rise of the slave trade here in America however the difference became that while white indentured servants usually worked their tenure and were freed as specified in their contract Blacks increasingly were not. No whites were ever brought here from another country or continent in chains as a slave.
Slavery has been proven to have a lasting effect on both American White as well as Black modern culture. Not to even mention the lasting residual of slavery as shown in Jim Crow laws, lynchings, and the overall bigoted perception of Blacks by Whites brought on by slavery. How long ago was slavery really I'm 4 generations out of Slavery in Mississippi. Only 4 generations. It's easy for mainstream White America to say never forget the twin towers but on the backside tell Blacks as well as other minorities to forget the misdeeds done against them in the past. You can't have it both ways .
Either we all forget everything that happened at any point in the pass or we never forget anything. What was worse the towers dropping, slavery, the jewish holocoust, the treatment of the Irish when they first came to America? who is to say what should be forgotten and what shouldn't .
All I know is America was built on slavery which in turn led to a population of people losing everything that made them who they were. It also led to the government of the U.S. passing laws that made it ok to discriminate against those former slaves. Even up until the intergration experiment of the 60's and 70's and the government led influx of drugs and guns into Black and low income communities during the 80's and 90's. It is silly and downright irresponsible to even hint that something which lasted as long and was as dehumanizing as slavery wouldn't have an effect on future generations. By your logic the Jews and Palestinians aren't affected by what their forefathers did. Are we as Americans not still affected by what our forefathers did in this country or is it that we should only be affected by what is conceived as positive and forget all the negative.
Regardless everyone is entitled to their opinion and on this I have no problem agreeing to disagree.

Why was my comment removed. Everything I posted is the truth. You take that down yet leave up some of the other falsehoods and bigotry I constantly see posted on here?
My main question still stands. To the people saying Barrack is not Black. If you saw him in public without knowing him what would you say he is? My skin tone is way lighter than Barrack and I am also half white but still considered a Black man.
As to the comment of swapmeet. To say that Blacks in America are now the most racist culture in America is pretty ignorant on your part. America in general and the South in particular was built on slavery and the outright intimidation and exploitation of Blacks even into these present times and you expect there not to be any ill will toward our white brothers and sisters. Surely you live in a Utopia.
Everything in America is a racial issue it always has been and always will be . Swapmeet how what in your mind makes a man a Black American ? If Barrack is not African American then who is? He is the child of an African who resided in America and a White American woman correct....
Like I say I love the Natchez area but could live without a whole lot of the people that live there....
Again....Black President , America finally living up to some of it's rhetoric ..... those that don't like it....Love it or Leave it.

Just when I think I miss being in Natchez and Mississippi I come here and do a little reading. Gotta love the ignorance and bigotry. I still love Mississippi and Louisiana for hunting, fishing, and food but I could really do without a lot of the people. Also to the one guy who made the comment about the sharecropper promise. If you can't tell the difference between chattel slavery and being a sharecropper then you might want to pick up a history book.

But it has nothing to do with this issue or conversation and as such serves as nothing but a diversion from the original topic.

It's funny how when a subject like this comes up one of two responses is sure to follow. One will usually be " what about all the black on black murder ?" and the other will usually be " well it was a long time ago, he's an old man now just let him be".
The problem is that this has nothing to do with black on black violence. This has to do with a criminal system during those years that let murderers walk off scott free and the courts of today trying to remedy those past wrongs.
As far as the other argument goes. Well if we should just let those wrongs go unpunished because of the time that has passed shouldn't we forget about the Twin Towers being knocked down and just release all the original prisoners we have down in Guantanamo Cuba because after all that was a while ago.
Redusmfan it's funny to me whenever someone who obviously has no interest in the Black community and no knowledge of the Black community other than what he or sees on tv or reads in the paper has something to say regarding the Black community. Why don't you worry more about the Meth epidemic that is running rampany in the White community countrywide rather than worrying about what we should tell our kids about Black history.
True the rate of murder among young Black men is astonishing and sad but has nothing to do with this trial and nothing to do with Black history. Stick to the topic or just don't comment at all.

That's a beautiful buck congrats Blake. To me there's nothing better than seeing young folks getting involved in hunting and fishing. To the folks that are against this kid hunting and fishing I don't understand your train of thought. i started hunting at 7 with my Daddy his friends and our dogs I killed rabbits and such until I got my first deer at 12.
If it wasn't for hunting and fishing I don't know how much trouble I would have gotten into. Hunting gave me an outlet and community to belong to and also taught me the inmportance of self sufficency by not having to depend on the grocer to provide meat and fish for the house.
I live in CA now and hunt and fish but not as regular as I did as a kid in Natchez but I have been taking my kids out hunting, teaching them survival skills and showing them the beauty of God's earth. My son's love to hunt my daughter not so much but she is a fishing fool so I'm not mad at it. We eat everything we kill and catch and they get to see the cycle of life up close in a safe environment.
Anyway congrats again hopefully I'll get back down there one day and get to do some whitetail hunting again.
Happy New Year to yall.
