Welfare is totally out of control but you can't suddenly drop off thousands of people from welfare when the economy is so bad and there are no jobs. We can put them to work volunteering to earn the check they receive but that's about it right now.

Dan - I don't think it matters if it was a report or just a number because if I was pulling a number out of the air it certainly wouldn't be lower than the previous year.

Please go to the Salvation Army store and see how it is run. Those people work hard and anything that doesn't "make" it to the floor is because it is still in the back waiting to be sorted through. At times it is a lot. The employees do a terrific job and to say anything less is an insult. The Salvation Army has helped a tremendous amount of people in this town. Educate yourself on the organization before you speak. There are lots of people in need that could use your items rather than throwing them in the trash.
