Asking these guys to spend money wisely is like asking a person who just crossed a desert on foot to drink water slowly. Pie in the sky. They are already spending or planning to spend money off of new casinos that haven't even opened up yet. You don't count your chickens before they hatch. Lets all watch and see what happens.

I support the police too. Here is my 2 cents for the people who think it is ok to check everybody at a roadblock. There is a lot of fuss and cuss over telephone taps by the goverment. I am sure the people who support road blocks must surely support wire taps by the goverment trying to catch terrorist. What is the difference? Why not listen to everbody on the phone in hope of catching someone plotting a bombing or terror plot. You know what the difference is? Nothing. It' an invasion of privacy. Southern rose, if you have nothing to hide would you mind for your phone conversation to be listened in on?

Here we go again. Another Natchez one shoe fits all idea. First let me say I support sports, kids need it more than a playstation. But you can't call all over the state getting results or numbers and then say, hey it will work here too. We heard that on a convention center and so many other things. What happened to Natchez? I can remember going to liberty park as a child when men were having softball games, dixie boys playing on the big field and all fields full at duncan park at the same time. This year there was barely enough kids to have 10, 11 year old baseball. They went around to schools asking kids to join to get enough. We have the mindset if we don't spend 9 or 10 million it won't work. What does it take to chalk off a flat field throw up some lights and have a 10x20 coke stand? Talk about tournaments? Right now are the fields we have being used every day, everybody go look this week. Why can't we have tournaments now? Know why? These people can't see the forest because of the trees. Ever heard, just do it. This rec group more or less are talking about starting a sporting business in Natchez. Well, you crawl before you run. Start small with a good idea and see if it works, then build it up. We can hardly keep what fields we have up to par much less keep them busy. Baseball season it what 2 or 3 months a year. We have a 10 million dollar convention center that was to be the savior of downtown that is open 12 months a year. I think we all know how busy that place is and how much profit we get from it. We can build and keep up a multi million dollar sports complex about as good as we can keep our streets up. Lets make the best of what we have got first. When there is nowhere to park in duncan park because it's busting at the seams, and busy from morning to midnight with games then we will look to expand. We lost a back ball field at duncan park because someone had a GRANT and a good idea that more golf holes would bring in more golf tournaments, REMEMBER THAT GRAND IDEA? How did that work out? Now we have two golf courses with hardly any tournaments on the verge of starvation and 1 less ball field. GO FIGURE. Let that be a lesson on the build it and they will come when it comes to sports. You have a better chance at seeing the loch ness monster in the river than believing the build it and they will come mindset. I think everbody will agree we have been burned enough on that cart in front of the horse mindset.

Good one Sam, heheheheh, but I like enkikur. He makes me think about storing food in a hole in my back yard. Better safe than sorry these days. This is a pie in the sky deal though. I wouldn't spend a dime of my money fixing anything historic downtown Natchez.

Last time I checked the convention center opened March of 2002. Glad to hear there is a little bit of action going on there, it's over due. But, that is their job, and if you take what it has cost the tax payer and what our leaders promised it would bring in, this was a miserable choice to make money for Natchez. What is really different here? I think it is still about the same walk from the convention center to the front door of the new hotel as it was from the back door of the convention center to the back door of the Eola hotel. I think it was strange that nobody from the Democrat interviewed the management from the Eola as to the positive or negative impact of this new downtown pact. Or any other hotels for that matter. I hope everybody will remember all the hype and promises 2, 3 or 5 years down the road that our leaders make today and hold them accountable. How many times did we hear 9 more holes at the golf course will bring in more people, a new visitors center will bring in more people, a new convention center will bring in more people. New laws and downtown regulations will bring more. When will it stop? Now we hear new trails and recreation will. I have never heard anybody say new blood or vision or the old choices were wrong. Take your broken car to a shop and every time you call to check on it they say "well we tried this that and the other thing and it's still not running right" sooner or later you will find they don't know what they are doing or talking about and you will take it somwhere else. When the Natchez goverment gets out of the tourism business like it used to be things will get better around here. This new pact between the convention center and the new hotel has somhow been spun around as something good for Natchez and these people around here are buying it. Lets call it what it really is. A bandaid on a 10 inch gash on the butt of Natchez to help slow the bleeding. We should have sold our town to the devil! We would have gotten more and we just about have sold, wait, gave it away and our future anyway because of dim vision, small box thinking, promise the world people in our goverment .
