I'm a little confused by the word "aesthetic". Does that mean that it will look pretty but serve no functional purpose? And is this simply another "stimulus" project with no lasting value? Have money, will spend?

What will actually be the question on the ballot? Reality and local resources brings me down to a figure closer to $1.5 million. Does this include the "dream" of trying to dam up the creek and hoping it will hold water. Does a YES vote now involve our money, and how much. Will we call in out of towners to "study" Natchez, or will we use locals who already know our history, obstacles and potential?

If they simply want a committee to study the possibilities, several local folks would gladly give their time without pay to explore recreation ideas in our area. We need a few concrete options before committing our pocketbooks to a "dream".

ProNat, that would be wonderful, but we have a long way to go. Hopefully we can all get on the same page and move forward with something positive very soon.

Good questions. What cities and how many would we be competing with for tournaments? You might want to talk to churches and schools already in the ball park business and get their input on the need for sports complex.

Did I miss something, or did a non-existent, not even on the ground floor ball park take precedence over Sawyer Brown and the free music concert this weekend? Somebody (ND) needs to give Highland church a little credit for the economic impact and for the spiritual lift it gave this community. They really stepped out on a limb to make this happen. The least we could do is brag on them a little and say thank you.

Somebody help me out here. What is it and who will use it? What is it that we do not already have or do they just want a new golf course? What do they want that is so wonderful that the general public should be willing to pay for? Who will oversee the "facility"? What cost for services/use would be levied if any? Is this a free to the public endeavor or will we have to pay for it twice? Do they want to build it in the MS River flood zone or on top of one of our 3 acre bluffs? I need a few more details before I know whether to vote yes or no on this one.

Well, it looks like a runoff coming. I agree that Randy is shooting himself in the foot by missing these public forums. Thankfully there are several good candidates to choose from.

I'm staying here for these comments to try not to take away from the success of this church reaching people for the Lord.

As with other solid principles of the Bible, there are no verses which say "thou shalt not bless motorcycles".

The verses freedom42 could have used were Deuteronomy 28: 3-6. "Blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the field. Blessed [shall be] the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
Blessed [shall be] thy basket and thy store. Blessed [shalt] thou [be] when thou comest in, and blessed [shalt] thou [be] when thou goest out."

These verses appear to bless cattle, fields and baskets, but on closer investigation, each blessing is preceded by "thy" meaning "your". Anytime blessings are conveyed toward things, they are blessings for people. God can bless our crops with rain and a good harvest, but it is ultimately for our benefit, not the crop.

The original Hebrew term for "blessed" conveys first a worship of God as in "Blessed be the Lord" . The second use of the word indicated the favor and goodness of God upon men. We need to be careful that we do not diminish our respect or reverence of God with blessings of objects or things that do not relate directly to God's gift of physical and spiritual life. Now as others have said, this is not a hill I am willing to die on. I will support all churches trying to present the good news of Jesus to our community, and ask for God to bless their efforts and their ministry.

God blesses His children and those who are faithful to Him. The Beatitudes are a good example of God blessing the faithful. The third appropriate use of blessing is when we ask God to bless others. It is not in our power to bless, but in the power that we claim in Christ as we pray in faith.

The inappropriate use of blessings began as a pagan practice when ships were built or were going out to sea. Fearful of the falling off the edge of the earth or fear of real disasters, they believed that if the ship were blessed then all would be well. I would certainly pray for protection of the crew and success of the journey, but the ship itself did not need blessing nor would a special blessing of God benefit the physical ship. Ask the ship if it enjoyed the blessing. The ship has no mind, or soul and wouldn't know if it were blessed or not. The blessing was needed for the safety of the people on board.

And in conclusion, the ultimate blessing we have from God is our salvation through Jesus Christ. Do not let anything in this world detract from our worship, praise and thanksgiving for what He has done for us. Be Blessed in Him.

More churches need to find their outreach niche to tell people about Jesus. Congratulations on the success of the event.

No division here. Thank you for all the proof texts. All those blessings you listed were for people, not things.
